Speaking as a Western Australia both the state and federal government have made decisions in the last couple of years that will have massive economic and social impacts. So I can understand why tensions have been rising and the way people are loosing faith in our government as it seems that they are forgetting that they work for the people not the other way around.

They also havent built much housing or put any incentives in to make housing better or cheaper, likely as a result of the entire Australian market is held up by our 80 year real estate bull run. But by that time there will be newer recruits, and the cicle continues. Allowing criminals to keep the money they made is never a good idea.

His parents were always very accommodating, and thankfully, the soldiers were kind and polite. But around 2000/2001, some of their neighbors began to disappear. They decided it was time to go.

Indonesian here. I always enjoy this section of the channel which opened my mind about the situation around the globe. However, in terms of the Papua and the New Zealand cases, I got to emphasize the fact that the Indonesian National Forces (TNI) are actually capable of extracting Philip Mehrtens, however due to political stupidity made by the government, the extraction couldn't be done. It all started when the current president, Joko Widodo (Jokowi), changed the naming of the separatist group from Independence Papua Organization (Organisasi Papua Merdeka, OPM in Indonesian) to Armed Criminal Group (Kelompok Kriminal Bersenjata, KKB). This subtle change meant that the separatist movement were no longer under the jurisdiction of the Indonesian National Forces (INF) but rather the Indonesian Republican Police (Kepolisian Republik Indonesia, Polri). The change also meant that INF were not given the necessary amount of funding and other gear specifically use to fight insurgents in deep jungle warfare. Sadly, the funding and other related essentials were given to the police, which you might expect are clearly not being given the necessary training to fight these rebel group. The other problem was the one-sided report made the Human Rights Watch. I notice that when every talk occurred regarding the deployment of the INF to eradicate the insurgent, the Human Right organization chimed in and delayed the deployment via public outcry and one-sided media coverage.

Hitler took away guns from all Jews before 1938, also Stalin banned private ownership of guns in 1929 right before the infamous purges. Not saying gun control always leads to these extremes but also saying when these extremes happen there is always gun control on citizens. Not worth the risk. Also meth, cocaine, etc is all illlegal here in the U.S and yet there are MILLIONS of addicts and the stuff is everywhere. Criminals will get guns from cartels or whoever, all it will stop is law abiding citizens who deserve a right to defend ourselves and not wait 10+ minutes for police to respond.

I live in NZ and never heard of the kidnapping but our army and navy are mainly used for rescuing lost fishing boats and trampers. We wont threaten war outaide maybe Australia getting invaded and we certainly wont be send significant troops to rescue one guy.
Hearing that multiple New Zealand citizens have been killed or taken captive without any action by the New Zealand government to rescue them is shocking to me as an American. Single digit soldier deployment is a COMPLETE JOKE. New Zealanders should be ashamed of themselves.
