Yah it was about that temp when I did the tests, minus the rain. Feels waaaay colder with the wind blowing in your face haha. They roll the updates out to everyone over time. Took almost a month for me to get 1.5.1. It appeared one day, said I would do it later that night, then disappeared again for 3 weeks…

Thank you! Yah I heard many regions have locks on speed which is crazy. I get it that certain places have speed restrictions on public roads, but what if people want to use it to its full extent on private property? They likely can’t do much locking in the US as speeds differ state by state and sometimes city by city, which is also crazy. I’ve heard of some people using 3rd party software to unlock speed, but I haven’t played with any of that.

@@tomsgadgetgarage thanks for the reply mate, I’ve tried changing the region to the US but I didn’t make any difference if was still locked at 16mph guess I’ll have to live with it lol I’ll maybe have a look at 3rd part apps but they all seem to be Android I’m on iOS. Thanks again for the reply

@@tomsgadgetgarage there arent really private properties in europe where you would use city scooter like that 25km/h is enough i ride 20km/h when people are around because its really hard to stop at 25

Thanks a lot for your videos! Very helpful and informative content I’ve ever seen Now I’m going to update from 1.3.3 to 1.5.3 (didn’t do it earlier cause I was afraid of killing my scooter this way) Also I’ve heard that soon we are going to receive an update that should help us to get back all the power of our scooters (maybe even more than it was before 1.4.8)

Thank you! Happy to help :) So going from 1.3.3 to 1.5.3 you will notice some changes in performance, most notably acceleration. The benefit though is that some of the crazy phantom braking has been mostly addressed. 1.4.8 addressed the overheating issues as well as removed "medium" as a regen brake option, leaving only weak, strong, and disable. 1.5.1 and 1.5.2 addressed the down hill braking performance and since then, I haven't had any issues with phantom braking. I'm hoping future updates slowly give back some of that lost acceleration but we'll have to wait and see. It's still an excellent scooter, just not as great as it was when it was first released (performance wise).

Right on. Mine did a forced update as soon as i turned on my max G2 with the segway app and now its stuck at 1.5.1 lol! I just checked the app and it still says up to date on the update info. So........ im stuck with 1.5.1 funny thing is im a beta tester for segway and as of late they havent been sending me any firmware updates, i was told to keep silent and not speak about the updates until they are released to the public but the last one i got direct from Shen, the guy in charge of the MAX G2 development was Master Control 1.4.8 😅

You know what’s funny is that I was only able to install 1.5.1 almost a month after it was released. It kept saying It’s up to date lol. Was surprised to see 1.5.2 so fast. But it does look like an improvement. I didn’t plan to record the way up but at the last minute I decided to but apparently it didn’t record squat. Didn’t have to kick nearly as much as on 1.5.1. Hopefully this is the last one for the ghost braking issue. It’s a 40 minute drive to that mountain lol. Need to find me a new one 🤣. Did your RS come in yet?

@tomsgadgetgarage hi Tom, unfortunately not yet 😭 voromotors keeps pushing it back. So they called me on November 24th to tell me that inmotion is doing firmware updates on the RS display and wont be available for shipping till December 30th but now they recently made a video saying they will ship before Christmas 😅 i have no idea what to believe anymore hahahaha.

Hi, thanks for this useful video ! I've bought recently a G2 European version limited to 25 km/h (I'm Ok with that !). i've not updated yet the firmware which is stil in 1.4.4. I hesitated to update to 1.5.1 after viewing your video and I still hesitate to update ! Do you think i will loose some speed or acceleration with 1.5.2 compared to 1.4.4 ? Thanks !

I have noticed a reduction in power going from 1.4.4 to 1.4.8 as well as from 1.4.8 to 1.5.1. Now, you get back some of what you lose from 1.4.8 to 1.5.1 when going to 1.5.2. I was still able to climb 9+ miles uphill with 1.5.2. Even though there’s less power, I personally think it’s worth the update solely on the fact that it addresses the violent ghost braking when going down hill at 24mph+.

Hey tom can you make a review on the new nanorobot R6 or the CYBERBOT R6? The Nanrobot R6 is $1,899 and CYBERBOT R6 is like $1,499 they do look the same though.

Hello! They typically push these updates out in waves so that if something isn’t right with the update, it doesn’t impact everyone at once. It took almost a month for 1.5.1 become available for me which was frustrating. Strangely enough, 1.5.2 was an available for me right from the start.

Hello! I haven’t experienced any acceleration issues. Also, the latest firmware update seems to have addressed the phantom braking when going faster than 24mph/39kmh.

Hello! So I recently updated to 1.5.3 master control and didn't notice any performance related changes so I don't plan on making a video for that one. 1.7.0 looks like it has potential to impact performance, although it's not available for me yet. As soon as it's available for me I will take it up the mountain and give it a thorough test :)

Still using Xiaomi Pro 2, bought brand new 2 weeks ago, but I'm able to ride just 14 miles at 15mph speed. And the pro 2 don't have any suspension. Im after better range and maybe a bit more speed ? Don't wanna spend more than 700£ ( about 1k us Dollars)

Just tryed to update the master control and Bluetooth on my G2 max. It didn’t load the Bluetooth correctly and corrupted the firmware in the dashboard and now I’m struggling with Segway to get them to help me out. Will not connect through app.

I personally install all the updates as they come in. In this test it was still able to make it up all 9.3 miles to the top except for the last 50 meters. So it still has really good hill climb ability for a single motor 450w commuter scooter. If you’re not riding on a bunch of hills, the difference in performance isn’t major. 1.5.2 is definitely better than 1.5.1 based on the testing I’ve done. It also does a great job of keeping speed in check. I personally would like to free wheel down the mountain with uncapped speed, but that wouldn’t be possible on any of the firmware versions. At least on 1.5.2 I don’t have to worry about going over the handlebars because of aggressive breaking beyond 24mph.

So all in all should I get the G3 or the G2? Isn’t the whole point of getting the G2 to have extra power doesn’t defeat the purpose. Should I just get the g30?

I would get the G2 over the G30. G2 costs more but the in my opinion the suspension alone is worth it.

And another 2 updates released. Master Controller V1.5.3 and Bluetooth V1.7.6. Still keeps accelerating when in Cruise control on descents and then goes full regen braking when exiting cruise control using the throttle to full. Moral of the story don’t use cruise control.

I just baught the Max G2 and whenever I go over a crack or bump the back suspension makes a loud noise. Is it normal!?

You are likely hearing the rebound on the coil spring. Try adjusting the suspension a bit.

You can try softening it up. When it’s too firm the recoil can be a little much.

I have an European model (G2E) and unlocked to global using xiaodash (before it stopped working fortunately) and am currently on 1.5.1. Can somebody verify if the region hack will hold or if it's reverting to European region after updating to 1.5.2? I'm reluctant to update because the release notes say: "Improve the security and stability of firmware, and adjust firmware performance according to regulations in various European countries"

@@jeremygay6585 yeah I decided to update myself after I still couldn’t find a definitive answer. It all went fine so it’s safe to update! I figured the app probably only knows which model you have according to the serial number, and since that’s set to US for me, unless they build in another way to check which model it is (which I doubted) it can’t suddenly revert the serial number.

Hey! So far it’s been the Ausom Gallop. Tons of power and an absolute joy to ride. The only downside is its weight at 88lbs. Second is the Max G2, mostly because it rides very smooth, is nearly silent, and is relatively portable. There’s another scooter coming out next year called the Zatori io+. Really excited to see it when it launches. Sleek design and awesome tech.

Seriously friend, I'm undecided whether to buy one of those g2 or a joyor 10 s but for power the joyor has more than 2000w but the quality there are people who say that it comes out bad others that it comes out good and then I'm seeing that g2 I like it a lot alone I don't know if I should go for that, here where I live there are many climbs although I am a 55 kilo rider, I don't know which way to go for the joyor here in my country there are no sellers who sell it and the g2 there is a distributor, although here the g2 costs 1800 dollars and the joyor s10 costs 1600 dollars@@tomsgadgetgarage

One thing the Max G2 has going for it is the brand behind it. Segway has been around for a long time, they have responsive customer service, and are more likely to be carried by local shops. If something goes wrong, it’ll likely be easier for you to get help. The Segway does a great job on light to moderate hills. For exceptionally steep hills though, the Joyor would likely fare much better. If you’re looking for a solid commuter scooter and aren’t too worried about top speed and off road capability, the G2 may be your best bet. Does the distributor in your area allow test rides of the G2?
