Finally, someone does a review of this bike on a serious climb. Appreciated. I live in Kona on The Big Island of Hawaii and the moment you turn mauka away from the ocean you're climbing. I have some steep climbs on my rides similar to what you show. I probably wouldn't use the power assist on the flat and rolling hills. I currently ride my old heavy Cannondale 6 up those climbs and it weighs 42 lbs with the added junk/racks I have on it. Sometimes I haul camera gear and other essentials to volcanic eruptions on a bike. Bike and hike situations. Then it tops out at around 52 lbs not including my backpack but no serious climbs like where you went. I would probably get their optional suspension seat post. I'm older and my butt and back would appreciate it.

Great review Tom! I've seen online people complained about the throttle having some dead zone the first 1/4 of the twist and the acceleration being jerky and not as gradual/smooth as they hoped, did you experience any of these issues?
@tomsgadgetgarage
@tomsgadgetgarage 2 часа назад
Hello! Thank you! So acceleration is a bit jerky out of the box because sport mode is basically at max acceleration settings. Dialing it down to standard acceleration in the app fixes the jerkiness. You can drop it to chill mode for even more gradual acceleration. The twist throttle feels alright. At about 10% twist the motor activates for riding around at 5mph or so. Twist more and the motor kicks in stronger.

Im between the punk rider pro, mantis v2, inokin oxo, and apollo go for the price. Which would be your choice for city riding? mantis v2 is very much on sale right now
@tomsgadgetgarage
@tomsgadgetgarage 5 часов назад
Hey! So I can’t speak to the Mantis V2 or the OXO, but both the Punk Rider Pro and the GO are zippy scooters that get up to speed quickly. The main advantage of the GO is its lighter weight and powerful front lights, but it gets less range and has a lower top speed than the Punk Rider Pro. Really depends on how important weight and portability are for you relative to speed and range. The Mantis V2 looks like it gives you more power and speed but less water resistance.

I do plan on putting PMT tires on the Leopard as well. I will check out the Leopard’s setup to see how similar it is to the Gallop and get back to you later today.

So I took a look at the Leopard. The rear wheel uses the same split rim setup as the Gallop. So the instructions apply to the Leopard. The only real difference that I can see is no quick disconnect on the Leopard motor. Just want to make sure the scooter is powered off and key removed. You’ll just follow the same steps, except the motor wire will remain connected.

Nice introduction review, Tom! From what I've seen, it looks like the fit and finish is above average. It falls into the price and weight territory of the VMAX VX4, this of course having dual motors and 32mph top speed rather than 25mph. I know motor designs are a compromise but I think VMAX went for torque and missed the mark with the top speed on the VX4. Even if the VX4 hit 28-30mph, I'd probably have one. It's great to see the Punk Rider actually achieve the 32mph mark! Something to really consider if it passes your testing measures. I've watched other reviews of this model but frankly, I didn't find many of them very objective. Freshly Charged did a respectable job however. I suspect that with the 936Wh battery, it will likely reach 35mi range at 20mph on mostly flat ground, fingers crossed. You're setting the new standard for scooter reviews, Tom.
@tomsgadgetgarage
@tomsgadgetgarage День назад
Thanks man! I was surprised it hit 32mph as quick as it did. Sometimes scooters struggle to hit the stated max speed or can only do it on a fully charged battery. This one here will hit 32 even with 25% battery remaining. I’ll post the range test tomorrow and one of the hill climb tests likely a couple days later. It’s not without its faults, but so far it’s been a blast to ride.
@Patriot36
@Patriot36 День назад
@@tomsgadgetgarage That's impressive. I don't think any of my scooters will hit top speed on 25% battery. Actually, maybe the GX3 does because it's electronically limited to 38.5mph. I know it does at 50% so I'll have to try it at 25%. In any case, I'll be eager to see the range test as well as its imperfections. I'm looking for a medium range scooter like this for my brother. I don't know if it will be the Punk Rider or a Kukurin G2 Master, or a VX4 but the low speed limit might be a deal breaker on the VMAX. I heard that Voro will be introducing a new version of the Emove Cruiser too. I have no idea if it's a full redesign or an evolution but it's probably due for a full makeover. If it's good, I might get that, then pass the Cruiser S to my bro. It's such a nice riding scooter though, might be hard let go. Thanks for all the time and effort you put into these reviews!

@tomsgadgetgarage
@tomsgadgetgarage День назад
Thanks! There’s no affiliation between the two to my knowledge. I’ve also spent an embarrassing amount of time looking at the Apollo Pro and Punk Rider Pro from a design perspective. There are similarities between the two, for example the accent lights and regenerative brake throttle as well as the style of the rear kick plate. The main body of the scooters are shaped differently, as are the neck, head unit, and suspension. Both have a futuristic design compared to nearly all other scooters on the market. I’d say 90% of scooters on the market fall into the category of “seen one, seen them all” from a design perspective. I believe both cater to very different audiences. The Apollo Pro comes with significantly more power and speed as well as premium features and a sleek design, whereas the Punk Rider Pro delivers aesthetics and solid specs (for the price, on paper) at a more accessible price point. I’m hoping to get both side by side in the near future, even though from a performance perspective these two are in completely different leagues.

As an ex bicycle racer, I would recommend some type of lubricating powder inside the tire such as talcum powder. It reduces the friction between the tire and tube. The carcass flex of the tire tends to make the tube want to walk around inside the tire causing tube stress.

Hello! So the GO has the advantage of a full suspension (front and rear) so it’s more comfortable on bumpy roads. It’s also faster and has exceptionally smooth throttle response. The KQi is also a solid choice. Great throttle response, solid app, very smooth ride, 10.5” tires vs the GO’s 9s, superior range to the GO. Front suspension dampens bumps well. Best Buy does have a deal that expires today that’s hard to beat.

@tomsgadgetgarage
@tomsgadgetgarage 5 дней назад
The GO is significantly lighter so it’s going to be much easier to transport in buses and trains. It also packs a lot of punch for a sub 50lb scooter. To put it into perspective, I have some larger scooters that I don’t take when running errands because they are just too cumbersome to lug around. I also avoid locking my scooter up anywhere, so it’s basically coming with me in the store. Much easier to do with a smaller scooter like the GO. The Lighting on the GO is also top notch. Nothing quite compares to it. If you’re needing more than 16-20 miles of real world range, the City has the advantage. As for making a video on the City, I’d love to but likely won’t be able to do so for a while. Need to get my hands on one. If it were me needing to lug it around on public transport, I’d take the GO.

honest answer please. You used a cloud 9 seat and suspension seat post from Amazon, did you choose these because you can monetize by others using your links? @tomsgadgetgarage

Great question! So I bought the Cloud 9 seat because the stock seat was awful for me on long rides. After using the Cloud 9 seat for a while I realized it’s the best seat I’ve ever used on a bike. The suspension seat post also helped a lot because I often ride on trails. I personally haven’t used their comfort package so I can’t speak to it. But what I do know is that it’s a lot more expensive than the Cloud 9 and Zoom suspension seat post.
