Since you are fishing for fish you must release you might consider using barbless single hooks on your plugs.
@Thea-gj2or
@Thea-gj2or Год назад
I feel the need to introduce some reality to your fantasy. Barbless hooks may work for bait sized trout but they definitely do not work well for larger fish. The weight of the lure allows the trout to throw the lure just about everytime. We had early season barbless for a few years and after a few fishless trips i just stopped going. Barbless may work better with flies because of the lack of weight, nothing for the fish to toss. When i fish i like to land some of the fish that were dumb enough to bite. If you don't like to do any damage to the fish, then don't fish. I release all my fish and pick up streamside and roadside garbage. I keep my hands wet and don't lay the trout on the ground, returning them to the water as quickly as possible. Barbless just doesn't work.

Nothing like wild trout fishing. The first time I put on waders and fished a mile upstream without leaving the water, I thought, "this realm of fishing is unlike any other type I've experienced." Dude, Nick if you like trout fishing, come visit Western NC. I've lived here for ten years, and there are outstanding wild trout streams and rivers everywhere. Great video as always brother 👍

I've lived in Western North Carolina all my life, 73 years. Color it paradise, color it gone. I catch more rainbows in the swift runs than in slow water, rainbows love swift water.

You know, Nick, I feel like I've been fishing with you for years. Which, essentially, I have been. Since I've been subscribed to your channel for years, you're just like a fishing buddy of mine. I've grown to know and anticipate your reactions to catching a fish, when your reactions are coming... I always find myself smiling while watching your films (not 'videos', they're more like little film vignettes) Always very enjoyable. ...So for your content; I Thank You A. Peck

Hey Nick. I’ve been watching you for sometime now. Started watching you while I was in the hospital years ago then my accountant got wiped clean and I had to start all over again but what I’m getting to is all the time I’ve watched you from tiny creeks to salt water and the pond of giants! Do you ever keep any fish to eat and or do you even eat fish? But please keep up the good work as you are excellent at all your videography. And I’m am sure many viewers like me truly enjoy the bloopers and gaffs that you add back in at the end. Thanks again.

Just finished watching and loved every minute of it as always, the scenery along these little streams is just beautiful mate. That cruiser is one of the best things to get you to new locations, I'm definitely thinking about an electric mountain bike in the near future... Definitely one of my favourite styles of fishing, wading through creeks in search of trout. Lately I have been walking skinny creeks finding big Aussie Bass it's been awesome... Thanks for another awesome episode and all the inspiration your videos bring me 👍🏼 Tight lines legend 🎣

Nick, if you're flyfishing you should walk downstream. The reason? When you're wading you stir up the bottom every time you move your feet, that means that scuds, larvae, and other foods gets dislodged and float downstream giving the fish a nice, free, buffet. If you're still fishing your way upstream, make a cast or two, behind you every four or five cast upstream.
@johnbaker4847
@johnbaker4847 Год назад
good logic, makes sense. 🤔👍❤️

Chumming trout doesn’t make you a better fisherman. You might as well just use live bait.

Fishing upstream is a better and more technical approach because it doesn’t alert fish to your presence through the sediment you kick up. Trout always face upstream into current as well, so if you fish towards them they’ll more easily see you. Fishing downstream has its place, ie in some streamer fishing, but for the most part you always fish upstream. Hope this helps!
@larvaassirala1789
@larvaassirala1789 Год назад
@@hightideflyco.3459 that is indeed the way I do it: when I cast upstream, I walk upstream, only when I cast downstream (streamers etc) I walk downstream. But I guess it also depends on other circumstances such as the position of the sun and hence your shadow
@RippieFarmer
@RippieFarmer Год назад
It's always struck me as a bit odd, considering the view of invasive species in the waterways back east, that keeping McCloud River strain trout is illegal. They aren't natives out there. They were imported for stocking from a very small breeding program in Northern California along the McCloud River.

Fan and subscriber here. Love to fish as well. Trout are cyclical feeders. They are wired for the prey that is prevalent during the season one is in and the stream they are on. When no flies are out trout feed on minnows. When nymphs and flies hatch they go after those. One must use the fly or nymph that beat imitates those found in that particular stream. Local mom and pop bait stores will help with the proper selection. When I was growing up it was explained to me that most commercially produced lures are made to catch fishermen rather than any fish.

Fantastic episode! Love this style of fishing. Complaint: 8 minutes?!!?!?. .more like 6,5 minutes of river time. Come one man! I cant be alone on thinking that it should be at least 8 1 minute peaces of extra scenery footage, and extra 4 minutes campfire and hotdogs. 20 minutes of glorious fishing adventure. Trown in some thoughts about spinning versus fly on your way back to the car and voila! 25 minutes of glorious fishing adventure. Suffering badly (((😳))) from fishing abstinences during winter. Fantastic 8 minutes though!!
