Boy, was he right. The last two weeks have really flipped conditions on St. Louis area lawns. Drought and fungus have begun taking their toll.
This video shows the hard-to-catch Mycellium stage of fungus. Sunshine chases it away, so you usually only find it early mornings. It's presence says Fungus is there, waiting to turn grass brown. You can help prevent damage with proper watering or by having fungus prevention material sprayed on the lawn (2 methods, call for details).
Drought stress is showing up now as well. The last significant rain was 3 weeks ago, 3 inches worth plus hail. Since then, about .03" when we should have at least an inch of water weekly for healthy lawns.
A good basic watering strategy is 2-3 times weekly for an inch total weekly. Every home and sprinkler can vary on time to acheive that volume. Stick a coffee cup out in the spray to see how long it takes to get half an inch in the cup. Adjust run time from that measure. Concerned about water usage? We also offer Hyd-Retain, a very cool product that reduces water consumption by 50% AND helps grass fight fungus damage. Call us to learn more.
