Yall are doing great. You're both awesome. You're both the best parents to your kid there ever could be. Your feelings of being protective over your little one are natural and good. Momma is gonna be Momma bear and boys will be boys. This is a healthy verbal reconciliation of the two.

Classic examples of why kids need both parents. Moms will be protective(sometimes overly) and dads will allow learn by experience (sometimes overly). Awesome to see you both discussing it openly. It may well save your marriage imho. Thanks for being good examples for us all.

Same, man. 28 and never had a girlfriend. Partly due to figurin out life as I go and makin mistakes that cost me a few potential relationships. Also partly cause I ain't found a woman honestly worth the effort. I don't by the "All" talk......"All women are....." "All men are......" A women think........" But it's definitely hard to find the kinda woman I'm after in today's world. Thankful to see a relevant couple givin relevant advice through personal experience in a logical, adult, level headed and rational way. Tryin real dang hard not to be jealous!

@@singlechristiancowboy - hang in there Cowboy. Don't give up. My son is 29, 1 girlfriend at 20.. She is his baby/mama, bi-polar (untreated) and is a NIGHTMARE. It's taken him several years but he is finally getting interested in girl company again. He told me last week he would definitely take it slower, get to know the girl and wait before taking it the next level. Good luck!

@@cbvickers4044 Thank ye kindly. Sorry to hear about his situation and especially sorry fer the youngin. Wish folks would follow God's word in what to do and how to live, but not everyone does or will. Even at that, It'd be a heap better if they sort out whether they can live together or not BEFORE they have any youngins. That way, it keeps the youngins from bein subject to a unhealthy relationship they didn't ask to be in but have to witness and deal with anyway. I get envious of good relationships I see, but I'd heap rather be where I'm at than in the WRONG one.

We love it!! Keep this up because we love you both and we do agree with you both , most married couples act like this. Please don't be helicopter parents, I am 60 years old , I grew up with no seatbelts, no helmets on bikes, my father put me at 3 years old in his lap holding on to the steering wheel me driving down the streets of Oklahoma city. My friends did the dumbest crap and yes we got hurt but it made us stronger and smarter. Thank you for letting Sonny just cry it out. Babies are real smart and they will rule over you once they know they have you wrapped around their finger. I know this has been addressed before but when you felt alone in this upside down world, I wanted to slap you and say wake up. There are more of us than the minority that is trying to shove this crap down our throats. We are the common sense majority but they won't let us speak. So hang in there! Much love! And yes we have been praying for you. And PS. my wife says you and I are the same person in different bodies. You guys are great parents. Thanks for being vulnerable and this is good therapy for couples in a down to earth way. One way to take a moms overly concern though is to interpret it as her care for you and her family. It’s so easy to take negatively but most of the time the motives are pure. If she didn’t say anything, then I’d start wondering if she cares. God bless you in this new venture.

Love the concept, Shawn and Katie Jean! It's definitely aptly named "It's Not Just Us." We had two kids, but they were nine years apart. It was a lot like having an only child twice. Things we thought we did right with the first, didn't work at all with the second. Thank God there was no internet or social media to judge our mistakes or drown us with unsolicited, "expert" advice. Great guidance from Jordan Peterson is his Rule 5: Do Not Let Your Children Do Anything That Makes You Dislike Them. You guys are doing a great job and the honesty you guys share is the key to figuring everything out. And if you want the hovering to stop, just have a second one and there won't be enough energy for that!

For me this is mostly a trip down memory lane, but I appreciate having my memory jogged and I truly enjoy the whole dynamic!! It kind of feels like the more things change the more they stay the same. Love ya guys! 🌻🐝

This was great. The wife and I have disagreements that at the end of the day mean nothing and we move on. Creek time and Coco Melon are the best!

You two can talk, smile, and laugh and reflect on your situations, i respect that a lot...that's exactly what you two need in my opinion. I believe it will make your both stronger and closer in your relationship.

Happy to hear this! I've been a fan/follower of Shawn and V.E. for 4 years now since the first video I watched(Panama CIA story time) and have enjoyed every upload since. I like hearing from Katie and your discussions as parents, being the father of a 2 year old boy myself, I appreciate your thoughts and values of raising a child. It would also be cool to hear more S.R.S. recaps from you two as you have in the past. I'm thankful that "Its Not Just Us" may become another source of content added to the channel. My family has had some setbacks this past year financially but once we get back on track my goal is to join and support your patreon. I believe in and respect your work. Keep up the good, honest, important work Shawn. Thanks

It warms my heart hearing y’all laugh. My wife and I have been married 5 years and we have never had a full fight. I grew up with my dad always fighting with my mom. So my wife and I have disagreements but we just talk it and move forward even if we agree to disagree

I can't like this video enough! As a father of 3 boys this was defiantly an issue with our first son. Seeing you guys work it out by talking and not just letting the issues build up is awesome and shows how great yall are doing as parents. It's crazy how resilient children are but as new parents all you do is worry, not sure if that really ever changes but it does get better. Love the vlogs!

You guys are doing great! The fact that you both communicate and resolve issues before they get blown up and respect each other is a recipe for a healthy marriage. It's your 1st child...you will raise him the best you know how. Its a new and great experience.

Great title....loved the topic of this video. "Discussions or disagreements" whichever you prefer to call them.... Just remember in the end it's ALL about the love you share with each other and your son.

I love seeing this. A respectable adult not overly serious conversation. This is how it’s done people. Good job to both of you. Congrats on your marriage, son and business. This is why I watch. The content is, real, quality, content.

This is what's happening right now with me and my wife. So glad I saw this because I have been feeling the same way, "well imma just do me and wait until she is older," it's definitely difficult but we have been talking more and my wife can see the problems and we have been working on it. It's been about a month since we had our first conversation and things are finally starting to get a little better. But thank you for sharing. It's nice to see we are not alone. It's crazy how things change when you have a child.

This was great! My wife does this same thing. I have to constantly remind her that I have a perfect track record of keeping our kids safe. This video helped me, because of how your wife explained why she “hovers”. My wife has never been able to articulate this. It is natural “momma bear” instinct. The mother of our children cannot help this natural reaction. Thanks for this.

Great stuff. I've been married 33 yrs. 3 kids. Life is hard but that's how diamonds are made. Keep talking and you are not alone. Shepherding a child's heart is a great book. Love the show and your transparency. Thank you. JD
