On this episode of Weird Movies With Mark, I talk about "A*P*E" from 1976! it's totally NOT king kong! Thanks for subscribing! Patreon-------------► / fanboyflicks Instagram---------► / fanboyflicks
Thank you! Halfway through video I was like is that her and commented asking. I troll comments and tada, you clarified. Yeah I coulda looked it up elsewhere but anyway
I’m making a new film called lizard its about a giant lizard monster that shoots nuclear energy out of its mouth and was created by an atomic bomb. Not to be confused with godzilla it’s completely original
True, but for me the miniature cow and toy tank were the oh-boy moments. It has to be the worst miniature work ever! Kind of reminds be of old GI Joe ads.
@@christopherdieudonne The entire movie budget was $23,000.and filmed entirely in South Korea. That's in year 1976 dollars, but still with marketing and travel costs for the crew and American actors, she couldn't have gotten more than a few thousand dollars.
This movie, I'll agree, is bad. However, same one I learned of this movie from, guy named Brandon Tenold, I also learned of another King Kong ripoff, that is so bad, it makes this look like a masterpiece of great cinema by comparison. A movie known as Queen Kong.
That makes 2 of us brother. Last couple weeks have been a little ragged. I needed a Good laugh. The middle finger and stepping over the tiny Holstein were right on time. Thanks for what you do. We appreciate you.
I'm now picturing Mark sitting alone in his apartment for hours on end bored but unreasonably angry. He does this for our entertainment. If that isn't the height of selflessness I don't know what is.
I'm not sure about "unreasonably". Brandon Tenfold (also on RU-vid) reckoned it was the worst film he'd ever reviewed, and he absolutely loathed it. There seems to be something about this film that just gets under people's skin! I'm almost tempted to watch it, to find out for myself...
8:42 Interesting thing about scale; the original *KING KONG* from 1933 actually intentionally changes the scale halfway through the movie. During the first half, when he's on the island, Kong is about 70 feet tall. In the second half, once he's in New York, he's about 26 feet tall. (Thus symbolizing him losing his power once he's in New York).
I discovered your channel 2 weeks ago and I absolutely love it! My favourite RU-vid channel now! I’ve watched every video now. Just need to restart them all again. A load of movies I need to watch now too!
That tiny tank at the end is the cutest thing i've seen in a long while, lol. As an aside, I wonder if the constant 'things flying directly into camera' was because maybe they initially were going to have the film be shot in 3D but the lack of budget meant they had to scrap that idea before filming wrapped ? I have no idea if that's the case, just trying tgo wrap my head around the constant 'into the camera' shots lol
I remember seeing a newspaper ad for that movie when I was a kid, it had a different movie promo poster though, I never got to see it, another one I remember is ‘The Onion that ate Cleveland’.
Hey Mark, give these guys some credit. At 6:30, with the awful miniature model cow, they went to the trouble to make the cow's tail twitch when the A.P.E. walks over it. Now THAT'S some real professional craftsmanship, innit?
I laughed sooooooo hard 10:01 at both the ape and Mark's reaction. You gotta love the dozens and dozens of 'mockbusters' out there. It's not The Price is Right it's....The Cost is Correct. Great video Mark 😂👍
Some mockbusters can be better than the original. I watched the War of the Worlds mockbuster, and found it better than the Tom Cruise vehicle which came out around the same time. It was closer to the book too.
LOL, I'd forgotten all about this gem. Loved this review, super funny and entertaining as usual. In my country (Portugal) this movie got the hilariously epic title of... SUPER KONG!!! :D
Your videos never get old! Put them on whenever I have to do boring stuff around the room and no matter how many times I’ve rewatched your stuff I always end up stopping what I’m doing to go sit and watch. Can’t imagine what a joy it must be to watch movies like this in your company 😅
Considering they used a live snake I'm glad the fight was a gentle fling at the camera. Fingers crossed at least one animal made it out of this production alive!
With the rocks and can and stuff flying at the camera, makes me wonder if it was a crappy attempt at some sort of 3-D? BTW, LOL like crazy when you played the music from the film and inserted your head, hummed along and turned red! Genius 🤣
I mean the ape flipping off the camera would of restored my vigor in watching this movie. I got a good laugh out of it. But it does look exhausting. Gotta hand it to you Mark, I'm not sure how many of these weird movies you've sat through, but god bless you for doing it.
I do love that the poster has these itty-bitty people hanging from a helicopter and getting ready to jump on the APE while it is fighting a shark, a giant viper and sinking a ship simultaneously. What is that little guy thinking? "Oh yeah, this is gonna work!"
Great review, I saw this when it came out as a kid. So one quick update (and you might have covered it). This was a 3-D Movie. I wore those crappy glasses (red, blue lenses and made of cardboard). So that’s why things were flying at the screen (on strings). I was laughing my head off back then, as it was so bad (I loved bad movies as a kid). I will never forgot this movie, who could? LOL.Thanks for doing this great Review. Anyway, a fun fact: (If I recall right, it was a long time ago) the US Army was actually credited in this Korean Movie (I’ll assume they had a lot of time on their hands back then, lol).
"Since the dawn of cinema there have been all kinds of different monster movies. All kinds of different monsters: Godzilla , King Kong, Jaws..." ...Mickey Roarke.
This was one of my favorite posters in the Psychotronic Encyclopedia books back in the 80s. Many of your reviews remind me of a lot of those old movies I read about, but weren't available at our Video Store. You're doing God's work here.
Okay, the ape flipping the bird was golden, but I also liked the boulders that were throwing foam and that tiny little cow, which if you watch closely, is wagging its tail.
11:49 Yeah, I also see he has the new bolt action rifle that apparently doesn't require you to cock the weapon between each shot I hear they're quite effective against crappy monsters in shitty movies
Have you ever reviewed “Mitchell” with its Oscar-worthy performance by Joe Don Baker? There’s a MST3k version that obviously isn’t reviewable but is absolutely amazing
