My high school had a a vocational IT program which was managed by the school's IT admin. She didn't care if we played games between support tickets so we would set up a local server and play Counter Strike with our elevated permissions on the network. ahhhh the late 90s/early 00s were a different time...
@@kacidy basically the same fun i had in spring of 2013. from a small town in the south so security wasn't too tight on the networks and once i had to use an admin login for a business class, the password wasn't changed for 3 years so i used it to play osrs so yeah... but in spring of 2013 we played mw2 and halo ce in the computer lab during an english class. i was called a nerd because i was better than them but i promise i'm mediocre. xDxD
2:18 "frags are frags" Scoreboard say Score. back in the days it was scores not kills, and 1 kill was 1 score. defuse / plant was 3. nothing wrong with that...
Fun Fact: the first russian crouch exploit fix 4:30 got reverted entirely because of the kz community, as the fix basicly destroyed several movement techs. The players got together and asked Valve to not kill an entire community of 50k+ members (at that time) which eventually worked. Valve reverted the patch and fixed the exploit in a non-destructive way.
Even crazier because right now as from what I observed, kz servers are the most played in Counter Strike 1.6 along with Dust2 Only/Classic/Massacre servers. Atleast in my country.
Back in like 2014 I used to play zombie mod servers and those already had lots of add-ons, as time went on servers got worse, adding new textures, models, lighting effects, even new mechanics entirely, is kinda crazy how far the goldsource engine can be pushed.
CS 1.6 originally didn't have the timer stopped when the bomb was planted. It was once CS:CZ was released that they added it. Also, a very few amount of people dubbed CS as 1.7 once CZ got released.
They should change the UI to better resemble their WON counterparts. As of right now they use the same color scheme/sounds as HL1 instead of CS, there's even a mod on gamebanana to change it so it's not that hard to do I guess.
I remember back in the days there were a lot of so called "non Steam 1.6" versions floating around for LAN party without internet access for everyone. They were numbered v1 to v22. Most prominent were v9, v19 and v21. You could easily tell v9 and v19 apart, because the score board of v19 had rounded corners.
You forgot the most important update which occured in the summer 2004; the fastswitch scope. They made it so you had to wait an extra second before scoping with the AWP when switching back to it. If you look up older CS 1.6 movies released in 2003/early 04 like Broderna Wallenger 2 and 3, you'll definetely see the difference. The Russian walk, correct me if I'm wrong, but I seem to remember that the first one to fix it was ESEA by adding an extra stepsound while doing it. So you would be harder to hit but people would stll hear you coming because of the extra stepsound. The update was made around 2008, I remember f0rest abusing it at GameGume 2007, you can still find demos from him on that specific tournament and abusing it ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-gllJixxJ38A.html
According to the statement of different servers having different versions; I remember playing on a server where the g3sg1 (banned T-side auto sniper on most servers anyway) had no movement inaccuracy even with scoped. Normally it only has no movement inaccuracy while unscoped. I think it was an older version of the game
for your own information, the name written in Arabic was a verse from the Holy Quran قال اني اعلم ما لا تعلمون I found that weird. It was in 5:38 too.
Crouch running (never heard it called Russian walking) didn't make you absolutely silent. You still made a very slight footstep sound. The movement itself wasn't banned in professional play, but it was limited. IIRC, CPL/CAL allowed you to use no more than 2 instances of the crouch run in a row. They wanted to leave it in for peeking, but didn't want to use it for crouch running.
yeah, all of whats in 1.6 are leftover from Gearbox CSCZ development and as i aware about 1.6 beta, famas and galil has similiar firing sound to the one in deleted scenes before it got changed to what we have now I also have no idea if the knife viewmodel was also made by Gearbox or not because it was added in way later updates of 1.6
They really need to just remaster it like they did with Diablo 2. Fix left arm hitbox, interp, and rates so that rands don't stutter all over the place etc.
you miss the crosshair fix, in the original cs 1.6 the top line was misaligned from the rest of the crosshair, that was fixed in a 2019/20 update, i dont remember
Its been over 20 years and the introduction of that 1.6 knife model still bothers me to this day. The 1.5 version was so much nicer, and without mud (?) on it I feel like that old lady at the end of titanic.
I really liked last uptade. It is SO easy to play with my friends now. I wish they did that before. I have played with the guys for the past 4 years. Having all these atts is awsome.
5:38 that's a verse from the quran .. obviously that's arabic but it was broken in cs making it start from left to right where it should be the opposite
CS 1.6 was getting updates all the way up till recently?? WTF that legitimately shocked me. I thought that the game was abandoned 12-13 years ago, and that anyone that plays it currently, simply uses a pirated version from 2004-2005 xD
The reason why this is possible is, because servers run on a protocol which is updated rarely, so you can likely play with a quite old version of the game along the new version players.
No mention of the AWP delay addition, crosshair size additions or anything like that.... "Release" 1.6 had no delay on weapon switch to AWP and there was only 1 crosshair. No changes to size or thickness etc
The 2023 update was actually pretty huge because it allows clients to simply start a map and host a server for it on their machine that shows up on the server browser.
TBH two most important updates after initial 1.6 release were flash bug fix (I can't even count how many years we waited for this simple fix where community had fix available for free distributed manually...) and mouse raw input. The rest was nice but not essential.
You forgot to mention one (at least imo) important update - crosshair sizes selection; you could choose between small, medium and large crosshair, not possible in 1.5
not much changed, other than relatively minor UI improvements and under-the-hood bug fixes. I play CS since 1.5, and 1.6 when it came out was pretty much identical to what one can buy on steam today
I still play 1.6 regularly, mostly GunGame which I must say is still alot of fun. It kind of wrecks my CS2 spray control tho. Its just something about the gun play in 1.6 that wont ever be beaten. So crisp yet so clunky.
Thank you for reminding me of the fake servers. I had an idea to use games as a host for malware, like reverse shell and things like that. I believe the fake servers were rampant because of the way how the client treated downloads. It doesn't have a file type check and basically any server admin or the server itself can upload malware to the computer, mostly .asi scripts, because the GoldSrc engine can utilize them for various things, such as the improved input buffers for example. Then, these malicious .asi scripts can do pretty much whatever they were programmed to do. As for the config files, you can't do pretty much anything to save them. You have to set the configs to read-only. But, you'll lose the ability to save your settings, which is a great sacrifice when the server overwrites your config. Speaking of configs, they were used to punish cheaters when they wouldn't budge. For example, a such plugin can set the fps_max value to 1 on a client, making the experience much more unbearable. Also, it can bind every key to "kill", when you press it, you'll kill yourself every time in the game. So, instead of banning a cheater, it made the experience as a non-cheater much better. Because running a server is a business. And you'll lose players and money as a result of cheating. But, in this day and age, cheating is much more rampant, but at the same time, anti-cheats gotten better. Especially with kernel-level anti-cheats, which I hate. It's basically a root-kit that can do whatever it wants. DDOSing, hiding malware, residential proxies, things like that. But, we have to make sacrifices for our own comfort, not security.
@@skinwalker69420 Yes, and I believe he's talking about the CS1.6 servers full of pay2win mechanics. Disregarded the TF2 part because it is irrelevant and I have nothing to say about it.
You should make a vid about the pricing/reward criteria for cs 1.6. I never really understood which actions justify the amount of money you get from them.
2:45 No, this did not work. Back in the day you could not just type in your CS 1.0 CD-Version Key and get CS 1.6. You had to buy a new "Halflife Anthology" for 10€ from the store and most of these keys did not work for the first month.
Remove the shield, make Scout pinpoint accurate while Standing Like the AWP, add a few new Maps (Like a goldsource Version of Cache) and fix the weird silencer attach/detach behavior. Then call it 1.7. Ta-da! Making the Game more Bug free but but changing its core gameplay in a real signifcant way, should do the Trick to keep it as a playable and enjoyable relict of the time. I Just Love to hoo into it every few years and be able to Access all my skills in the First round, because its the absolute Same Game than in 2005.
@@lukkkasz323 Basically Islam takes a lot reverence and importance on representation of both the word of the prophet and especially his physical depiction (you might know that part from why comics of muhamad are so controversial etc) its part of why the caligraphy is so beautiful big emphasis on subtlety, think how protestants during reformation tore up catholic churches for being overly worldly and using icons actually its similiar) I'm not personally muslim myself so that spiritual part wasn't as much why I was personally offended to be honest though. It's common for youtubers to include stuff like that or little easter eggs to get people to leave comments and bait engagement. The "easter egg" for the comments though is potentially offended a huge proportion of the world
Before I thought Blizzard was the gold staple of maintaining their old games.... Until they made everything crash and burn with how they treated the online services of the original warcraft 3... Good to see that valve still are good at maintining SOME of their oldest babies. (Actually, it is very wierd that they do sporadically maintain their oldest titles, but they still refuse to maintian TF2, which still has in-game purchases. Guess thats the curse of how valve lets their devs work on the projects they themselves want to work on, as no one wants to handle the tf2 boogeyman).
I used to have 2 file packs on an usb stick one with the version of 2006 and one with 2009 later on and it worked fine for the most part on steam with minor errors and one pack required the use of in-game console with a few commands to get work as intended and playing around with the config file with was a nightmare because if you fukd it up, you had to do all over again. It unlocked the old in game features and most importantly the D3D renderer (with was the OG I believe). It removed the in game lag coused by the default OpenGL. With D3D the game worked buttery smooth and looked so clean. When you used openGL (the default renderer) it made the gameplay feel as if you slowed down and run like 60Hz with a downgrade of sort. It feels as if you had a very micro-stutter. Hard to explan. I was not a huge deal as some could say but for me it was a huge one at that. Also the pack unlocked some of the minor video settings that were useful as well. I remember having the ads for TF2 L4D and other VALVE games when using the old pack. It was a special time. I'm glad I was able to downgrade the game many years ago and play on it in the community and tweak all the nevessary settings to my liking.
wait. CS had ads ingame? in 2007? i think that's the first time it was implemented in any game. jesus. Valve invented all the anti-consumer practices that now plagues AAA games and nobody says anything.
you want more? yeah. selling unfinished games and fixing it later. YOU ARE ALL TOO YOUNG TO REMEMBER, BUT HALF-LIFE 2 WAS LITERALLY BROKEN AT RELEASE!! (old man screams at (youtube) cloud)
you want more? oh, i've more. paid mods. Valve invented paid mods way back in 2000. granted, the only mod I'm aware they sold was a half-life total conversion (Gunman Chronicles) so i'm willing to let it go. but still. it was a mod. in fact, you could unlock the half-life anthology on steam using the key for Gunman Chronicles. cause it was literally a half-life key, cause it was a mod.
