Same thing, I'm over twenty, but people still act as if I'm twelve. However, I take advantage of this by wearing severely bulky, loose fitting clothes, especially around the bust, (am rather big-ish😅), but with the loose clothes, and my politeness, during the holidays, I still get FREE candy! Back when I turned 17 and people told me I had a whole life ahead of me, I couldn’t believe it. I thought I had a decade if I was lucky. As women, our worth is so related to youth and beauty that turning 30 is like becoming invisible. I think the roots of this problem are much more serious than they appear to be. When we’re talking about infantilization of famous women, it’s important to remember that there is no supply without demand. The real question is why these women can get an advantage in their careers by acting like a little girl; why are SO many people attracted to childlike attitudes? Famous people don’t become famous without a following. It certainly comes from a pedophilic culture, the same one that glorifies youth and relates it to beauty, and the same one that places so much value on looks. I remember one time a friend of mine said that Marilyn Monroe wouldn’t be as remembered as she is now if she hadn’t died in the “prime” of her beauty, and even if she had lived to late adulthood, only pictures of when she was young would be shared, saying how beautiful she once was. This is why actresses lie about their age to get roles or spend money to make their faces look more youthful; it’s because, as a woman, your worth is ALWAYS related to your beauty somehow, and once that beauty is said to be gone, you’re invisible. I don’t even blame grown women for acting young because that’s the only way our society will even look at them with respect anyway.

Its so scary, im only 15 yo and i allways feel so guilty for not having a boyfriend and not "enjoying my life" cuz i feel like if i dont get in a relationship now, I'll never get into one because it does feel like we become unloveable after we reach a certain age. Its awfull and tiring tbh
@upsidcs209
@upsidcs209 2 года назад
@@carolinauzumaki4778 I’m still young and I feel the same way! and the scary part is that it doesn’t only affect relationships, but it also affects your career and how people treat you. It’s been proven that pretty privilege is definitely real, and that you get better treatment from most people and also better professional opportunities when they see you as “pretty”. And since beauty is so connected to youth, once you show slight signs of not looking like a preteen anymore all that privilege goes away. People say you have your whole life to do things but, although you see men succeed and be respected in their 60s, what happens when I’m a 40yo woman and my body is completely different and society doesn’t see me as beautiful anymore? People think pretty privilege is an online problem but it’s so much bigger than that.

It's ironic how on the other side of this, there are young girls, 12-16 yr olds, who are trying to be adults. I think they'd miss out on enjoying their youthful days that when they finally come fully into being women, the pressure to look younger than their age starts to get to them. Young girls who act like grown women or try to be one should learn now that even if they should be able to afford looking youthful in their 30s and onward, it won't be the same. You'll have a lot more responsibilities and stuff to face and handle and as much as social media glorifies women looking younger/behaving like little girls, it won't feel the same. And as for us women who are scared of getting wrinkles on our faces and losing that youthful look, we should try as much as we can to recognize that getting older and aging is a gift and a blessing. Yes, we should try to eat well, and generally, look after our overall health but at the end of the day, we'll still look old when our body decides it's time. I see older women in their 70s, 80s and onward who are in good shape and health and with beautiful wrinkles on their beautiful skins and I try to reassure myself that I'll look like that when I'm their age and it will be a good thing because it's a testament to having survived this confusing thing called life.

there is nothing inherently wrong or sexual in acting cutesy when your old, sometimes It can be authentic and charming in a way, being a super mature and serious person all the time is boring, its just bad when it seems obviously infantilizing others or yourself for attention or validation and if the people you attract seems to be more attracted to your cutesy helpless acts than your true personality and opinions, values, and emotional maturity

Is cute an inherently bad thing though? No. Cute can be a positive attribute, not a trait found singularly among infants, toddlers, and children. I think cute appeals to humans universally because it triggers our instincts to dote on, care for, and protect. You have to be more gentle and softer with cute things, whether it's' s a cute kitten or puppy, a cute toy plushie, a cute guy or girl. Cute implies vulnerability and fragility. Overall, being cute is pretty harmless and innocent. I think part of the attraction with cute girls/idols/young women is people are getting tired of the "strong independent woman" trope who has it all, has a career, doesn't need any help, and doesn't need a man. Cute can also have a fine line between ditzy and dumb and not being taken seriously which is a different conversation and that's where the misogyny/implicit bias comes in. For example, women want to be taken seriously and be treated professionally in the workplace. It's fine to be cute, but cute is not synonymous with dumb. For example, being cute and smart, or cute and a hard worker who gets the job done. Now, this deliberate self infantilization by these tik tokers definitely falls into the pedo bait/roleplaying category where people can get off on it. (And it's certainly immoral when actually children are being sexualized because they can't consent and are likely being exploited by predators.) But it's supply and demand. There's clearly a demand from viewers for this type of content and these tiktokers are just supplying it...

Especially among kpop stans, I usually come across someone infantilizing some grown idol (in her late twenties and thirties) by calling her a baby, a child and at times they even get mad when she dates someone like bruh. She is not a child let her live. I guess same goes for male idols. There is no problem in acting cute. We understand that it might be part of their culture but people should differentiate between acting cute and “they are actually grown-ups and not babies” Like just because your bias does some aegyo doesn’t mean she’s a child especially when when she’s above 19 yo like bruh.

Having a mature body and being old/acting childish is so irresponsible. I want children and teenagers to feel safe and not be seen as objects at least at that age and these women don't help at all. Something about this trope that reeeealy drives me nuts is it's inherent ableism. As an autistic and ADHD person, I've always been misread as someone who was infantilizing herself to make people like her. So people constantly patronize and sexualize me. Everything I say and do is perceived as flirtatious, I never feel trully seen. It's frustrating and isolating.
@sprigganpanda

For me I'm just friendly and pretty and struggle with understanding sexual jokes/innuendos which apparently leads to coming off as flirtatious. I've kinda given up and have decided to just accept that this is my first impression for others, innocent but flirty. If anyone knows how to fix this plz lmk

I kinda hate these conversations because I always end up feeling insecure. I'm not tall, I have small tatas, and a round face. I'm not curvy. I have a slight feminine figure. So when people start talking about "real women's bodies" and "infantilzation" it feels like a critique of my appearance. I start remembering everything other people, men and women, have said about me or ppl who look like me and wince. If I think about it too long I start contemplating getting a boob job. But I don't really want one so I know I will never get one. Personally I don't think Bella looks like a child. Neither do kpop people. It might sound weird to people who do have faces that leaned out when they got older, but mine didn't. So every day I look at my 32 year old face, that does have one wrinkle on the forehead, and think I look like an adult. But I know that isn't what other people see and some people assume I'm still in HS and treat me that way. I almost feel like I have to over-compensate for my appearance. I have been outright told I should. Yall all of us women get pressure everyday. Personally, any comments about not being womanly enough get me down. And even being told I "look young for my age" isn't always a compliment. And I get told I look cute even when I am pissed and that sucks cause usually I'm struggling to explain myself so the whole "you're so cute when you're mad" isn't welcome.
@ilovewritingessays2017
@ilovewritingessays2017 Год назад
Yeah I getchu. Acting like a baby is cringe, but there is a point in the discussion where it just becomes the same old tale of attacking a certain type of appearance. I'm a 5'7 adult and have more neotenous features then people my age and that always left some uncomfortable implications about myself in the eyes of a lot of people. One thing I have noticed is that a certain look isn't really exclusive to a certain age. Or at the very least it's correlation is far weaker then compared to DNA. So this idea that a certain appearance is more childish or more mature, it really is just socially constructed. And there are many famous people with these kinds of phenotype like recently Jenna Ortega got super popular and she has that "cuter" phenotype even though her body and face has done developing now. But a lot of people don't seem to get this idea, and want to keep assigning words like "childish" and "p*dobait" to people like us. Maybe they are jealous or maybe they are just trying to virtue signal, but either way the ignorance they spout, no matter what their intentions are, hurts and makes people like us feel like our appearances are problematic. It really stings to be told this because it feels like they are calling us genetically deficient.

i used to have a friend, ( keep in mind im turning 14 this year) last year, and she was very invested in east asian culture (she was south asian) she talked in a baby voice when she was talking to most males. Everyone in the group was really annoyed at her about it, but noone said anything about it. she also really liked kpop and stuff like that. (keep in mind im not saying anything about kpop and east asian culture, i like aspects of it as well) the fact that she was doing this, especially for the male gaze was kind of concerning, especially for a 12-13 year old. tiktok is honestly such a bad influence for young girls, and just ruins all sorts of moral values that young girls have to 'live up to' or they wont be considered feminine or wont fit societal beauty standards

I think it’s interesting to see how women put on this young persona to act all cute and child-like, but then compare that to younger children that are trying to “grow up” and act older, in turn sexualising themselves (unknowingly). i think it’s important to look at both sides of the conversation bc this obsession with wanting to look and act young (for “older” women) and wanting to look and act older (for children) is not healthy, and is actually damaging.
