What makes rhea so special is that she doesn't flaunt her luxuries to the rest of the world unlike other vloggers, and she is very honest about her journey and doesn't cover up the bad parts. She improves and doesn't try to take pity for her difficult past, unlike many other vloggers who excuse their present bad behavior for their tough upbringing. She doesn't exaggerate her wealth, pretend to live very luxuriously and is very open about her pay and her struggles. we are all so proud of you rhea, wish you all the best!

Ikr, it makes me realize that you don't have to act the complete opposite of yourself just to fit in and be cool. I remember when I tried to post vlogs on my channel, I was real bad depressed, and yes it was fun making them, but after re-watching them something was off. I'm a really quiet and reserved person, I saw a different person in the videos I made. I even used slang I NEVER use (not cussing or anything ) and slapping on a fake smile was worse. I was hurting myself more than expressing myself. Yes I can be funny sometimes but- what I saw, I was hurting. I had planned on doing story times, even doing one based on a bad betrayal I had- but I told myself "Am I on the intent of trying to expose my bully, or will it be a lesson to others to be careful?" I took all of my videos down and made one private. I may start again when _I feel comfortable_

Rhea, the feeling never goes away. I too only could afford rice and soy sauce as I was living alone for many years after being kicked out of my home. It is a feeling that you never forget... wishing you could eat something you cannot have. You dream about it, you think if only one bite to satisfy. I think it makes us more appreciative of the food we can eat now and we are not wasteful. I eat everything and I mean everything before going to the grocery’s store now :) lovely video rhea, i am glad you are doing so well. Cheers from California

That's also so beautiful. I remember reading a Book called I'll Take Manhattan where Zachary Amberville the Son of French & Swedish Ancestry went to Columbia to Study Journalism who was on Scholarship. He waited Tables at The Lion's Den Restaurant and lived off of his Tips and sent the Bulk home to his Widowed Mother to help take care of his Brother Cutter & Sister Emily. When he became successful in Publishing he paid his Brother Cutter's Tuition at Stanford University in Los Angeles, CA but instead of being Grateful, Cutter was very cruel to his Brother.

I have always rather hated the term "Money can't buy happiness." After living in an impoverished area of Kentucky for 6 years, struggling to find employment, in a shitty trailer park infested with roaches and our trailer literally falling apart around us...then moving back to my hometown in Pennsylvania and getting good paying jobs for myself and my husband, moving into a nice apartment and able to buy enough food and things for our cats... It has been a journey, these last 10 years, for my husband and I. There was a time, living in that horrible place, where I felt that I could no longer go on and I had thoughts of suicide. I'm 35 years old in a far better place, physically and mentally, and I now think that the phrase should be "Money can't buy happiness, but it can pave the way to finding happiness."

There are a wise phrase: "Money maybe not bring happiness, but lack money is certain to live in despair".
@yuciehayashi266

"Money can't buy happiness " is usually used on those filthy rich people who think they can buy anything, even love, friends, and health... They don't care about building relationships and maintaining healthy lifestyle but only use their money to solve their problems. This sentence properly explains them. I've never once thought it's applicable to normal people working hard for their everyday lives, living with their loved ones, surrounded by understanding friends and eating well. Glad that you're living a happier life btw.

Growing up in middle class America the only thing I ever remember being envious of was someone’s new bike, or their new Nintendo. I never had to worry about food. We always had plenty. This puts things into such perspective. I need to call my parents and thank them for all of their hard work and for the many blessings I have had in life. Thank you for being vulnerable and sharing your story. It was very moving. And a good reminder to save!!!

This was my experience watching this. I grew up in a mid to upper middle class area but we were more towards the middle of middle class. A lot of kids at school got new games and electronics which my parents could not afford and of course I was jealous. There was always food, clothes and presents under the Christmas tree (even if they weren't a playstation) and these stories put your whole life in perspective. Yes there are people with more money but there are so many with less and suffering.

This was really beautiful, when you were talking about the budgeting and you not being able to eat the food you wanted, I looked down and saw the nice dish in front of me. I realized how lucky I am to have all of this, and how hardworking my mother has been. My father was abusive to the point where the only choice we had was to escape. I moved from Nicaragua to The US, thankfully we were able to do it legally, and at the time, I was 5. We had family here so we didn’t have to struggle financially as much as others would. It was really hard not being able to communicate so I learned english(up to the level I was at in age) in 1 year or less. I grew up in a loving household with my mother, brother, grandparents, aunt and cousin. I thought we had it easy since I could ask for something and my mother would be able to provide it. My mother worked from 7am -5pm, at a clothing factory, where they would unpack trucks and pack clothing while scanning them and separating them. She did meet the man I now consider my father and we moved across the street to my grandparents. It was when I started getting older that I realized that the only way we would have all of this was through my parents hard work. I had always been a good student, straight A’s, the first time I got a B+, I remember sobbing to my mom and just saying sorry. All she did was look at me and hug me saying, you did a great job, I am so proud of you, you worked hard. I have always tried to be the best in my studies to make sure I can graduate from university with a doctorate in Marine Biology since I really like the medical field but I get people shy, therefore I mixed my love of medicine and animals. I still think that through all my hardships, I am still very lucky. I have a great and loving home, a very stocked kitchen, a nice bedroom, very nice clothing and I get to travel and go places that many people who don’t have as much would only dream to go to. I am very thankful to god for giving my such a great mother. This thought surfaced recently when I went to a store and got 3 things but it totaled up to about $145. I looked up to my mom and told her, this is too expensive but she just ignored me and payed for it. As we were leaving the store and going to another one, she just smiled and patted my head. Although I haven’t seen my father for about 9 years now, I don’t feel like anything is missing from my life, I am really happy with who I am and where I come from. I decided to share my story to tell those who may be struggling that everything will get better, it may be a long ride but the ending destination will always be worth it. If you want to smile, smile with a calm mind. If you want to cry, cry knowing you are brave for showing your emotions. If you think that no one loves you, you are wrong, I may not know you but I do love you and I am very proud of where you have gotten to and the fact that you haven’t given up. I may only be 14, and I may be faced with many more struggles to come, but I am excited to see what the future brings. Please make sure to stay healthy and happy everyone! I love you all❤️❤️❤️❤️

It might seem a bit silly but I'm also brought to tears that we can be happy simply by appreciating what we have. I used to keep a mindset that my partner and I need to make X amount of money in order to have maximum happiness according to X statistic or X article, but since seeing Rhea's video I'm inspired to be grateful for the joy that i experience in my life, no matter how much it costs. I think I’m doing way better now because I’m earning my own money now by helping my parents and spending time mowing my neighbours lawn and I’m going to use it wisely I even made my self a bank so if my parents don’t have cash I’ll just put the money I’m earning from doing some chores I’ll just write it down.

You mentioned that money can't buy many things such as good health, friendship, love etc, but I can't agree. Money cannot buy you health directly but it can buy you proper nutrition and good medical care when needed (in the end contributing to your health). Money can allow you to not work three jobs and therefore have time to build relationships with people (it's much easier to maintain friendship and romance). Money helps you donate to charity directly and help others considerably (e.g.fully paying for a much needed renovation in dog shelter, or buy expensive medicine for an elder who cannot afford it), therefore boosting your happiness and content (it can be also achieved when you can afford to study and learn what makes you happy and dedicate enough time to it). Money contributes to almost everything in life, the point is how to use it.

And although now we are quite fortunate (thanks to my parents again) their story motivated me to start budgeting in university and so far I am able to collect quite a lot. Sure i do get jealous when my friends get to go out and do fun stuff but I need to realise that my time will come.

Your story really resonated with me. My mom raised me and my three older siblings all by herself, and she had to rely on the government to provide food for us, but even then, I remember seeing her come home from working two shifts looking so tired, even as a kid I would also think "I wish we had more money." Your selflessness to take care of your family is very generous and kind of you, I admire that a lot.

I've just discovered your channel and love your videos ! And I found this one. I cried (and I don't cry easily). Your story touched me a lot because, even I live I'm french, I lived kind of the same history as yours. Nobody should live these horrible things. Even I can't work or study because I have chronic illnesses, I live a little better than before. But I lost all hope in life and future. You gave me this hope again. I can totally relate to this. I have also experienced the part where we only eat rice with salt and soy sauce. Where we go to each houses to collect empty bottles, Irons and other things which we can sell on junkshops. I'm grateful to undergo this experiences it just made me strong and independent. Before, I also wished to have lots of money to be happy but as I grew older and started to earn, it was then I realized that money doesn't make you happy. What makes us happy is our perspective in life (how we see life). Yes, money can buy things and makes you happy but without being contented with even just the little things you have,, you can never be happy.

Your journey really inspires me. I'm the eldest sister in a single-parent family and I basically became the absent parent. Seeing our basic assets being taken away because we couldn't afford the bills was terrifying but it shaped who I am today. I have a stable job now and I can afford to help my family. Sometimes I feel a little sad and defeated, my friends splash the cash on luxury holidays but I'm still frugal to support my sister in college, but my childhood was so much worse. Thank you for sharing your story and highlighting the importance of saving 💖

When I did my First Solo Trip to Las Vegas in the early 2000's I started in January because I wanted to go away in December. I brown bagged it Monday to Thursday, treated myself Friday, put coins in my Piggy Bank, saved my Vacation Pay until November and bought and Paid my ticket on the same day. I also bought with me a package of White Envelopes and I gave Myself a Certain Amount to spend per day and I put them in Envelopes. If I had any left over I'd put them in a "Return" Envelope to Return to my Regular Bank Account The Minute I got home, I put the Money back in My Account and used it to Pay January Bills which is the "Hardest" Month. People go Cray Cray using their Credit Cards and don't realize how much they spent until the Bill Comes in Mid Janaury.

Growing up my parents didn't have a lot of money and they still struggle financially and I help out as much as I can but since I've moved out last year I have my own expenses now but they do the best they can for my siblings. I always spent a lot of time with my mom and I've seen her make delicious meals out of every single ingredient she had in the house when it got difficult and because of her I learned to do the same and learned to buy items on sale and compare prices on similar items but with different prices since it's sometimes the brand that seems to be the only difference. She taught me a lot and I'll always be grateful for my mom and everything I've learned from her I really admire my mom for being so strong and smart. I agree with your answer about money I feel the same way you do I just couldn't really put it into words but you did and I'll always remember that. I save by bringing Lunch to work each day then I eat Breakfast early but when I get to the Office, I have My Coffee. On Friday which is Payday I get up extra early do My Bill Payments on My Tablet, write down the Confirmation Number then transfer that information on My Excel Spreadsheet. Also do this "Test" Save every Receipt you spent and then record it on an Excel Spreadsheet, at the end of the month calculate what you "made" as opposed to what you spent you'll see a big difference trust me. You'll both make it, if you want it badly enough and trust me people will respect you and admire you for it.

it's not exactly money that we need for happiness, it's the food that it allows us to buy, the homes it allows us to live in, the essentials we need to survive. what's more important are the relationships and connections we have with others, including ourselves. that's where happiness truly comes from. edit: wow, it's scary how we share the same thoughts on your question. i grew up poor and watched my parents struggle, but they did everything they could for me and i never really wanted for anything. im sure that had an influence on how i view money.

This is like David Ramsey's envelope system. I admire you for being so diligent with your budget. It's amazing to learn of people's childhood and how it affects their relationship to money. Because knowingly or unknowingly our childhood shares how we interact and view money. I do belief that having financial stablity does gave you a certain freedom in life. You have more choices and less stress about the security of food, housing and education etc. But that's up to a certain point. That is why my grandmother taught me that a woman should always be able to make her own money and always have some saving put aside for yourself.
