every halo game after 343 took over completely lacks the horror atmosphere that the bungie games often had, one of the many reasons halo 4-infinite didn't stick imo

Halo 2 - Reach didn’t have a horror vibe. Halo 2, I’ll give a pass to in the later half of the game starting with The Oracle. But the rest were straight up action oriented. That horror aspect that CE hasn’t been matched since.

This always sounded like a clock or something going off, as if some giant alarm is playing in the underground, thousands of miles below you in the ring, alerting you of a certain enemy we will encounter later on in halo ce.

Considering it plays after you’ve disabled the ring’s security system (iirc), yeah, it’s foreboding as fuck

I remember this soundtrack when I first heard it on truth and reconciliation on legendary when you enter the ship, this soundtrack with hundreds of gold elites after you was terrifying. Halo CE was the best in the series.

I never realized it on that mission at first but by then I’d heard the song enough to know it’s an omen

Ah... That one hall where Hunters spawned in during Silent Cartographer with this music coming in. Used to scare the hell out of my 5 years old self, because I thought they were purposely hiding behind covenant boxes and rise their back spines to trick me into thinking they were juste those covenant radio boxes. Turns out I only got tricked by their random passive behavior. Sweet good old times.

This song and one other one from halo ce have always given me the creeps even since a child You can first hear this on the silent cartographer when you go from shooting aliens and this comes on once you’re underground it’s like something entirely else is about to go wrong and it did

Halo CE definitely had the darkest and most mysterious atmosphere to it. The sequels didn’t really have this type of atmosphere, they just went in a more action oriented route.
