Rotten to the core! We knew putting new floors in our floating tiny home was going to be a fair bit of work. But we had no idea just how much! Turns out we has some rot in our floors that we had to take care of. Which means fiberglass work…. but hard work pays off and and ultimately the the floors turn out amazing!

One tip for the saw I saw on RU-vid a few years ago and use all the time: Hold your circular saw’s shoe against the edge of your speed square. If you measure the distance of the blade from the edge, you can even add that measurement to make thing easier. Not only does this make for straighter cuts, it’s also safer since it prevents pinching the blade causing kickback.

Well done, hope you get back to sea soon. If you dry dock the boat don't forget about the time you hit bottom, i believe you said there was a small crack.. I've seen those before and usually water is absorbed, you'll see if you dry dock keep an eye on it a few days and you'll see.

Putting the flooring under the flages like that might cause you trouble down the road. LVP swell a lot when it gets warmed by the sun. Pinching it down will cause it to buckle. Your area might be small enough that the amount that it swells won't cause problems. Good job, it looks really good.

Great prep work and isn't that always the most important part. My only concerns are; 1, the flooring is meant to be a floating floor and 2, it's definitely not a marine product..... but you're not the first to use it on a boat. It looks great though, (if not particularly boat appropriate visually, more of the overall 'it's our home' affect and I'll be interested to see how it fairs long term. You worked hard and can be proud of the results!

Nice! We are about to do the same project, but our floors aren't (hopefully) nearly that bad. We were even looking at the same flooring! I was curious about if it would be better to wedge the flooring under or taper the edge to fit against the cabinets. I think I'm going to wedge it. Great video, thank you! I'm looking forward to the rest of the refit. If you make it up to the Chesapeake, let us know!

Great video, but 2 questions... 1, How did you get the tongue and groove to engage on the last row AND get it under the fiberglass lip, and 2, did you glue the floating floor to the small pieces of flooring in the hulls?

Hi Ryan,The poplar is not rot resistant so hopefully you used a lot of epoxy , the end frame makes no difference in this application.. Marine plywood would have been better if available , but still not as good as a rot proof product like ‘cossa Board’ if you could find it! You could also even used some ‘plastic deck board ‘ product . Hope you found the cause of the leak! Big ugly project nicely done! Cheers Warren

You had said the problem was due to the anchor locker overfilling and leaking into the cabin, causing the rotting. Did you find the place where it was leaking through? Maybe put in a bigger drain in the anchor locker? I'd love to know what you did to remedy it so water doesn't ingress. Also the flooring looks amazing throughout the boat. Great job

@jandradventures
@jandradventures 4 года назад
Found a couple likely candidates. We think their might not be a single point of water entry. But if water does end up in the cabin it pools here. Example, if the AC condenser plate overfills or the windows leak a lot during a rainstorm or if the anchor locker drain clogs up with mud and overfills. All of these can lead to water under the floor in the salon.
