Just bought my third one ( modified tanto) is absolutely incredible! The balance of the blade feel in ones hand is unlike anything I've ever grasped. Fires open like a mule kicking. The texture on handles want fail you if you get blood or water on your hand. It's my fav 100$ knife ever made. Made for the best cause this is pure performance. No truely bad reviews hold any merit in my opinion.

Maybe you just had bad luck with them? I have a 12 year old seal pup knife that’s been on 3 deployments and 2 contracting deployments. It’s best up, but still it’s my best sub 100$ knife.

@@MatthewSmith-du5dy I take exception to the price they charge for AUS8 steel. Their business model seems to be to gouge people based on having a cool name that don't know any better. Benchmade is big on overcharging too but at least you are getting a decent blade steel that is made in America

They use D2 on this model.Would prefer AUS 10A or Sandvick 14C28N steel for budget steel.

You Nailed It , l Love clip points but the Price Kills it for me and I would definitely take the Recon 1 , Code 4 , or even the Broken Skull all with S35VN over D2 for less than $95.00. Sogs Best knife imo is the Seal XR , now that is a Awesome Blade at around $150 it's a Beast ....👍⚔🖖

I’ve spent a lot of time working outdoors. My original Trident was my favorite EDC. I lost it and bought a Visionary with the VG-10 steel, and it’s been tougher than nails. I have no doubt that anything that SOG puts out is quality for the price. I just ordered one of these new (ish) Tridents and I’m looking forward to testing it out. Whatever ya’ll think, I know the SOG warranty is legit. They’ll even sharpen your knife for the price of postage and replace any blade you beat to hell for their cost.

I understand that some people feel that its not as great as a cold steel when it comes to price and blade steel and I agree in that aspect BUT I do feel that this knife is actually more versatile than the recon 1 . I personally use my knives for multiple purposes and to have extra features such as a glass breaker , serrations and a cord cutter makes the knife more appealing for a edc in my daily use.

The cutout for that belt cutter seems so ridiculously deep as to be a point of weakness. Let's say the blade was open and somebody stepped on that handle, is the lower 3rd going to snap off?

Appearance is usually one of the things that draws me to a knife. I'm not wild about how this one looks but after watching this review I'm considering it... Meh, at that price I think I'll stick with my Recon 1. Will keep an eye open for sales though.

Great question kind of hard because they are different and the air light is definitely thinner with less traction so for Edc the air lite But for bigger harder more utilitarian Tasks the Sog.

While i do agree s35vn is a better steel than mass produced D2, thats not true of all D2. Properly heat treated D2 is more expensive because its small batch heat treatment, not found in mass production. SOG d2 has not been tested, but its mass produced, so i would assume its not as good as the cold steel s35vn. It bugs me that most people assume D2 cant be comparable to some of these so called super steels. it also screws the market up when a maker makes something in D2 with a good heat treatment and its not popular because its using a steel with the connotation that its worse, when its not. but lets be real here... most people wont be buying these higher priced knives regardless of the steel.

I thought so too. Got one as a gift and went playing in junkyard on cars they about to crush. Amazingly it works really well, much better than the loop.

@@hummervs3278 it is unusual and unnatural to deploy - if your already holding it in a standard grip - all you would normally do is use the but in a hammer motion - but as it is in the front of the knife - the blade would have to be folded and you would have to reposition the knife handle to use it in a natural hammer motion - it’s just very awkward- it’s also the only knife that I ever saw with the glass breaker in front of the pivot point rather than the usual location - I still don’t like it

The price as of now is $95.00. I'd pay that for a Made in Taiwan before paying half the price for the same knife made in Vindictive Communist Liar China. Some of Spyderco's best and most expensive knives are made in Taichung City, Taiwan. Taichung's OEM manufacturers know a thing or two about quality. A company known as Joti Development Ltd. is notorious for doing good work for just about all the big knife names.

This knife is a piece of shit. It broke the first time I broke a window with it. Now the assisted opening function doesn't work. I'm trying to deal with SOG's "Lifetime Guarantee" which is another pathetic thing about this knife. Don't waste your money on this crap, especially if you want a window breaking feature. The guy is a bigger tool than the knife.
