New D2 Steel SOG Flash/Aegis/Trident AT Series 

I'm really proud of SOG right now. I wish CRKT would take notes from them. They have the new dead bolt lock to complete with the triad lock and their blade steel compromises that.

I'll give SOG credit for coming a long way, but price needs to be more reasonable for the blade steel when factoring competitors.

The safety can be removed and the coil spring can be removed so it's not assisted (but it's a little weird feeling) also the Trident uses ball bearings so I'm pretty sure that they all run on ball bearings

SOG's lineup of knives has looked much improved this year. The Seal XR, Terminus, Trident, and Flash all look good. I moved from SOG to Hogue and have not bought a knife since the Vulcan about four years ago but it looks like I may check out some of these new improved models in the near future.

Another thorough review from Gideon's Tactical. From first impressions before watching the video I liked the looks and lines of the Aegis. The lack of deep EDC carry and the catching on the pocket are deal breakers for me on the Aegis. If SOG is watching and paying attention at a minimum they need to resolve the issue with catching of the screws on the pocket. It was great to show the progression of the SOG production lines. Nice to see SOG is improving their products. I agree the prices are too high for D2 steel compared to the Kershaw and Cold Steel options. Appreciated the additional time to demo the extra features on the Trident. For now the Flash in a different color than that unappealing blue has been added to my BladeHQ wishlist. Kudos to Mrs GT. Her video skills are getting better with every video.

Having unfortunately been in a situation that I had to use a knife for self defense I am not sure that I could remember to disengage the safety if my life depended on it. That being said I think that you could train around it. The Aegis is the clear winner and the one that I would buy once it gets to South Africa.

I am glad to see that SOG is finally starting to make knives with new internal mechanisms while maintaining the same styling that they have used with their previous models. I am also excited to know that all of these models have solid lock up! That was a feature I felt like SOG was missing the mark on in the past. I am glad you checked that box off for me in your review! On the topic of another company, I would really like to see you do a review and field testing of the 4 Max Scout for Cold Steel. I realize there are plenty of positive table top reviews of the 4 Max Scout, but your videos always allow the viewers to see how the knife performs and now just the technical specs and initial feel out of the box.

Early on my first pick was the Flash but kept going back and forth. After you very clearly presented all three the Flash is the winner. Have seen the Aegis clip screw problem described on other videos so no surprise there. SOG design engineers really messed that up. Probably your best video so far this year. Stay Safe & Healthy.

Glad more companies are going to D2 steel I like budget steels in a good working knife

Bought my third Trident ( modified tanto) yesterday. Just the most incredible thing to feel in your hand. Also own two Aegis's. Talk about an awesome knife! Aegis/ Trident now rank as my go to everydays. Hopefully get a Flash within the month. These things want disappoint! Promise.

Arron hreat video I am with you on combining the featues of Ageis and Flash. The branding on SOG always turned me off from buying them. I hot a Twitch II in a subscription box a couple years back and was turneb off by the quality verses price. The Flash really connects with me for all the reasons you stated. Currently edc'ng a Spyderco Para 3 and rotating with a Benchmade Bugout. The Flash also reminds me of the Terminous.

I really want the Aegis but I don't like a safety on my knives. I have the all black Terminus XR for $54 and I LOVE it, no safety!

Been waiting for you to review these knives, especially the Flash. I absolutely love the new blade design and was hoping they e improved the blade play. The blade play of old has actually kept me from buying a SOG pocket knife of any kind in the past and I’ve been waiting for them to finally fix that issue. After watching this video I am sold and will be purchasing the Flash pretty soon. Great video as always!!!!

Thanks for the info,super informative-so very interested in these knives initially,esp. the Aegis..they seem to be about $25 too much,yeah the safety is not to my liking- to me handle thickness can be a deal breaker, it looks like the Aegis is about 1/2" which is very close to the upper limit for me,I will end up getting these but probably a used one. Still on my honeymoon phase with the Terminus xr, bdz-1 steel which I totally love I wish they would have kept using that steel for the red handled one but instead they went with d2. Appreciate the balanced review. There's a lot of comments of "I wish these weren't assisted, I wish there wasn't a safety, etc", it's understandable, but Flash, Aegis and Trident have always been assisted knives, therefore the redesign was going to center around an improved assisted design. But hey, if you like where the direction is going, please continue to let us know - user feedback counts, it why we've gone back to the drawing board on a lot of the old designs. Speaking on non-assisted XR folders, in July the redesigns of Vision, Pentagon, SOG-TAC and Ultra will be available in XR flavor.

The Trident with the modified tanto? That's a SEXY beast! Buuuuuuuut, like you, I also see them as overpriced, which is a long-standing issue with SOG. Maybe they'll have a Flash (sorry) sale at some point and I'll snag one.

Been waiting for a review on SOG's AT XR series. Was looking at the Seal XR and checked it out at my local dealer, just too much for carry. Trident is the one for me but your right clip or tanto. I mean a tanto blade I actually like. As always best knife reviews. God bless, brother.

I had one of the original trident models for years and recently lost it. That was one of my favorite knives, I really miss it.

Was just saying how the Trident and Terminus are my new favorite blades this year. I'm still not used to the fact they are made by SOG yet though. Never been a fan till now. 🍻

Glad to some upgrades to SOG staples! The original Aegis, Flash II, and Trident Elite have all been consistent workers for me. Got the Flash AT-XR in urban grey and Aegis AT-XR in exclusive orange, and they're fantastic! Definitely like this Flash more than any previous iteration. Don't know if new Trident is worth buying the upgrade. We'll see..

I had an original trident (the tiger striped camo full straight edge) that I carried and used for 9 years! That knife was a rare version and I liked it alot. Until I lost it cause my ex lied about keeping it. Now I think the flash is the one I'll try

Great job as always, Aaron. I've always liked Sog knives even with the blade play they used to have. His designs connect with me and their products since they designed the Flashbacks, the Aegis FLK and finally the Pillar shows that they understood that they had to raise their quality to continue competing. I don't understand why they only modified more radically the design of the Flash since they started to change things although in truth I like the new Flash more than the old one and I totally agree that they are overpriced, the safety was not necessary on any of them . The SOG ASSISTED TECH (S.A.T.) doesn't bother me. Between the three the new Trident is the one I like the most. It is interesting that they decided to "degrade" (joking) the Aegis from Tactical to Outdoor knife and shortened the blade. The Aegis was always one of my favorites with 3. 5 inches of blade and 3.1 ounces (Heavier now......BUMMER!!) so I didn't like that they decided to change its, to me, perfect design by shrinking its blade although it was only a little and change its perfect pocket clip and adding that goofy lanyard hole. If they lengthened the handle (according to SOG website) I would have preferred that they had lengthened the blade. I'm happy they switched to D2 and the "new" XR lock is great. My son bought his first knife today a sog trident gen 1 tanto. I'm getting a trident at xr version tomorrow.

I would like them so much more of they offered them without spring assist and without a safety. I'll probably still pick up a flash as a work knife.

Well, time to buy out all of the old Flash I's and Flash II's.

Good honest review. Sog always comes out overpriced. Usually have to wait about two years before the price drops to where it should be.

Great video! Just purchased the moss/grn Aegis and a jade Terminus XR. The Aegis is a solid knife but definitely not the best for EDC. The Terminus is far better for that.

I'm glad to see SOG trying to upgrade. Alot of this is in the right direction. Stuff I want to see Definitely manual options. Or being able to choose. D2 is a great upgrade but compared to other options in the price range the options out there are better. It's just a matter of choice. D2 has been around forever. So it is cheap to work with. The heat treat they did on it is good. Personally on the trident make an option to have with or without the seatbelt cutter notch. I know it's intention and design. I've had 4 pairs of pants I've cut on it. Using it how it was intended and rushing to put it back in the pocket made that happen. Personally offer coated or uncoated. The coating isnt bad for what it is. Could it be better? Yes. Offer versions without it As for steel I think they could do better. Gonna touch on that again. I think cpm154cm with the price to match would be great. It's more stain resistant and I like it because it's easier to work with, sharpen, and forgiving in hard use. D2 can chip out fairly easy if you aren't careful. It's also more corrosion resistant. look at houge and all they're doing and how great their knives are I know these are supposed to be entry level knives but you pointed out so many options that do better for the price offered

Those look awesome I would have maybe got one but I just got the cold steel sr1 lite and I don't think I will be getting a new knife any time soon it covers all bases for me

The Trident's "seat belt cutter" was designed to cut cordage. The original SOG Seal knife's "seat belt cutter" was so the SEALs wouldn't puncture their inflatable boats while cutting cordage. Can you use it that way? Sure. As long as you keep your blade razor sharp.

I like the aegis It’s kind of got that Spyderco leaf shaped flat grind That seems to be the best knife blade design for my lifestyle I would probably be very happy with it

Just picked up the flash for $40 and the aegis for $45. Not really into knives and don't know anything about them but I'm trying to get into them. Had my eye on the buck impact for my first nice knife and seen these 2 on sale and snagged em. I still plan on buying the buck impact for my edc outside of work. Bought these 2 for cheap so I won't be too upset if i damaged them some how.

Not sure i like the funky colors ..it draws attention to the knife... i like the updated lock and steel though.. prefer manual as well the lock must go hated it on old versions as well... great video though thanks!

Great review but a pass for me when I can get better quality for less. SOG needs to be more competitive with their pricing to get me on board. I have never been a fan of their stuff. With that said, it looks as though they are making strides.

That Aegis is a really nice looking knife, but $85 is a lot for D2 steel. Especially when you factor in something like the Kershaw Link that's the same price for 20CV or M390.

Looking to update my carry from the Gerber Ayako and Quadrant… been a fan of SOG and see the Flash on sale periodically… that’s my choice, for sure.

Great review, I think SOG has done a great job updating their designs but like other people said price needs to come down.

Got the sog flash at cabelas for like 120$ so I’m pretty jealous you got all 3 for under 300$. Was between the flash and the trident but trident was a bit to big for EDC so I went with the flash.

Great looking new designs. Still not a fan of D2, when there are so many better grades of Stainless.

More $$$ for less quality blade? Ergonomics alone aren't enough IMHO. Aesthetically pleasing but 80% of the knife functionality is based on blade quality/ performance. The handle no matter how appealing is a handle. Good review thank you.

Heads up i had an issue with my old trident were pocket lint would prevent the knive from opening fully because of the thumb stud being right up against the handle

Trident is the only one I would be interested in, but not for that price tag.

The assisted feature breaks it for me. Make a manual and an auto version. The days of assisted knife relevancy are over, says me.

SOG has come a long way, but they need to learn that most people don't like assisted blades. I also heard a lot of these still have blade play unfortunately 😔

This is what I'm talking about...for all the good moves/attempts, they sorta shoot themselves in the foot. They waited too long to upgrade the steel, and on its own doesnt justify the pricing. And I used to really love SOG, Spencer's story, etc. The couple upgrades are almost wiped out with keeping some of the nonsense and price points. The original Aegis weight-wise made it a legendary carry. S35vn...done. The other two upgraded versions seem like a win, if you like SOG enough to ignore the competitive options. The question to me is SOG being run by "knife people" anymore? They have some great people working internally, just not sure about decision-makers at the top. At least the lock-ups are better, but with such a fast moving knife community, can they be asking $100 for D2 blades that are assisted with safety features...not sure, but we'll see.

Any idea if it would be either possible or easy to convert these to non-assisted? I prefer just a manual flipper...

I ordered the S35vn terminus , and the flash directly from sog. Neither one would open. I played with the pivot , and lubed the terminus up, and was able to open it with the flipper at least. I was unable to get the flash to open, so I sent it back to sog. They couldn’t fix it, and they said they didn’t have any more flash knives, so they just gave me a refund. I would understand if a retailer ran out of knives, but this is sog, the company that makes the knife. That’s like KFC running out of chicken. What the hell sog. He terminus will be the last sog I buy.

Hey Aaron, quick question, do you ever sell your surplus gear to patreon supporters or your subscribers to fund the channel? Say you have 30 packs you like but dont real use any more say once a month you offer to your subscribers a chance to pick them up say you offer them at 60.00 per or something like that? Just asking , not sure if you watch Luke at the outdoor gear review he and his wife suzie do it once o month t hgt eye open there store for subscribers.

My big takeaway from this video is that I now want a SOG SEAL XR. I felt like I was watching the Trident win at everything and you had me sold, but then you pulled out the SEAL XR and then I started to care a lot more about how overpriced the Trident is for the value you get. Then I pulled up the SEAL XR and looked at it on knifecenter and ebay and put one in the cart for payday. Now I'm just left here wondering what size your hands are?

They are less.. flimsy, but twice the weight...

i got all three of these knives from bladehq--shipment was very fast. each of these knives has a small hole in the back of the blade you can see when the knife (s) are closed and am wondering what you (or anyone) knows about this.

They had me at no finger choil, I hate those, give me the full blade and cutting edge.

I just got my Flash and am I the only one having problems opening the blade with the thumb stud? The blade just does not want to come out.
