I actually like sponsors. They pay my content creator directly, they aren't intrusive, they are bound by my content creator on how THEY want to go about advertising them. I on the other hand HATE ads. The content creators aren't always paid, the pay is shit, they have little to no control over them, and it wastes a TON of people's time. This is why I respect Linus and how he goes about his sponsors, as well as why he is keen on allowing sponsors. I remember he got a lot of hate for RAID shadow legends sponsor (Linus seriously, it's downright gambling for children.) and you know what he did? He NEVER sponsored them again. Because he has that control. I also noticed he avoids FTP games on phones after the RAID scandal. He does still promote FTP games on PC but that's different, PC gamers have more of an option on what games they want to play and have many honest gaming options. Fortnite, Apex, Modernwarfare, and much more have completely free, no gameplay enhancers to buy, just cosmetics. Phones DO NOT have this, it's riddled with FTP games, and few and far in between games are actually paid and good like Stardew or Minecraft. Yes, phones do have like... 2 completely free, buy cosmetics only games. So ya, sponsors ftw!
i just like sponsor block. ads regardless of what they are, are designed to be deceptive. lots of kids use youtube and cant even distinguish ads/sponsorships as separate from the content. also if I wanted the said product, I would seek it out. the more I see an ad over and over again, the less i want to buy the product. discovery by choice is far more useful.
I've gotta say that this video is the culmination of years of work on this channel. The script is snappy, the ad with dbrand isn't annoying, and the content is great - pros and cons and a solid outcome based on everything presented. I look forward to LTT continuing to make high quality and polished videos like this one.
Totally agree, although I think they still have some things they could easily improve and isn't so polished. B-roll in particular. They seem to try to get really extravagant shots but they end up falling short most of the time either due to the effect being really lackluster or just a genuinely bad shot where you can't make out the subject like the Z Fold in this case
@@hyunji1652 I don't feel the need to go to an event like that and mocking them. I do think it's pretty pathetic tho. Phones are just TERRIBLE gaming devices. You can't play anything but the most primitive of games on there without it feeling awkward af. That's probably also the reason why most of them are so primitive. And we can't forget the fun in-app transactions, tons of ads and other fun features like that!
@Gabriel666 sparda there are good games and there are bad games. And phone games are almost always absolute trash or a mediocre way to waste your time at best.
Dear dbrand. Keep paying him to say what you want. His discomfort is amazingly entertaining. Also, you should make it fair and send skins featuring a different member of LTT each time.
You know, if they're trying to make folding-screen phones more of a Thing, they should really put more effort into usability and customer support. Mediocre reception like this has killed technologies in the early adopter stage before, and I don't want to see it happen with folding-screen phones.
You know what truly is revolutionary? Rollable screen phone. Basically it's a phone that can be expand its screen into a tablet. Foldable design is stupid.
@@donflamingo795 if you feel that foldable phones are stupid, rollable screen are way more stupid 😂 imagine unrolling your phone to use it, or when you get a call 💀💀💀💀💀
@@erickmazariegos5778 no, not like that The default size is like normal phone, but you can roll it to tablet size. You can take a call from that default phone factor. Apps like RU-vid throw out updates every other week, through the Play Store. There is not much that Samsung can do, it's 100% the app developer's fault, really. You could use the RU-vid app from the Samsung Galaxy store instead, and see if that works better.
Hi Linus - Long time Android Dev here. The fault for the issue with the black bars falls entirely on the app owner/developers. It a lack of support from these particular apps. Fordable devices make up such a small part of the market that many apps haven't bothered to test or adapt. Also, if you're receiving notifications for most apps but not a few particular apps, it's almost certainly a problem with those few apps. If you are familiar with FCM and the former GCM architecture, you know that something pretty weird would need to happen for this to be a device issue and that there are many points of failure within each individual app that make an app-specific issue much more likely. I suggest reinstalling those apps and if you see no improvement, install them on another android device. I'd be willing to bet that you will then see the issue on other android devices as well (assuming same OS version). I doubt you will see this message, but thought I should share. It seemed like these were significant points for the negative column, and while a lack of support by apps is certainly a valid concern, you can't really blame the trailblazer.
"Fordable devices make up such a small part of the market that many apps haven't bothered to test or adapt." the sad part is that they don't even have to do that. foldables do not require any specific testing for basic functionality. if your app supports variable screen ratios and splitscreen, as every app developed in the last decade should, it already has everything it needs to display properly on every configuration of ANY foldable android on the market the reason instagram looks like shit is because instagram is shit. it does the same thing on non-folding phones that don't match the specific aspect ratios its incompetent devs expect
Regarding the Teams Notifications, they work perfectly fine on my Z Fold2, even better than on my previous Note9, where calls would often get stuck in limbo. Maybe check if the notification is set to only appear, when no desktop Teams session is active.
There's not even enough of foldable phones for every Android developer. Also windowed mode or split screen is also not common (how many phones support Android Desktop Mode so you can try resizing your app to any size and aspect ratio?). And for the notifications, this is a common problem in the Android world: dontkillmyapp.com/
Lets not lose the focus on the fact that all these top tier tech youtubers are all claiming the same things, and that is foldables are over priced trash for now for many real world reasons.
@@TheySeeMeTrollen and custom roms from people like LineageOS are already out so Linus could theoretically run this phone for an extra 3 years at best maybe even more tbh (given that he does replace the battery every two years or so, so that... You know it doesn't get to iPhone 12 mini standards)
@@TheySeeMeTrollen I've upgraded phones usually every 6 months for a decade until the note 9, I got it at launch and still have it. The past phone that lasted me a year was my Pixel XL, which I still have for the unlimited full resolution photo cloud storage
I just got a refurb note 9 for a little under $350 to replace my beloved note 4 a few months ago and I think it'll be another 4-5 year device. My gf got one in pink for a little more to replace her LG stylo. I don't use the stylus very much except for doodling on snapchat but it is useful for selecting text, moving elements, playing games that let it work.
I pre-ordered my Note 9 on Day 1. I absolutely love this phone. It captures amazing videos and the screen is gorgeous. That being said, lately my phone has been plagued with issues. Random RU-vid crashes, Chrome loading slower, Google Assistant reminders not arriving on time and many more. I've decided to give the iPhone a try. 12 Pro Max is going to be my replacement. Let's see how it goes.

I was reminded of this video today when they made the video of the foldable screen laptop. And since I got my Z fold 2 three days ago I thought I should check it out again. So far I have not had any problems with it. @@redcowcat8705 Because I'm paying to use new tech I find amazing? 256gb is more than enough for most people, especially when you consider cloud storage. Never ran into an issue with running out of storage. As for the headphone jack, we're past that by now. Wireless headphones are far more convenient and tbh more comfortable since there is no wire in the way. Plus, if I DO want to use wired, I can use a USB C ear buds. So I lose nothing. Hopefully he's discovered by now that you can put the keyboard into floating mode, allowing it to be placed anywhere. I get all of my Teams notifications.
I find it interesting you mention Teams specifically. Since they do have an option on by default which is if teams is open on your computer it won't send notifications to the mobile app. I think for most that stay at their desk its a nice feature that prevents duplicate notifications. The problem is if you step away a lot for long periods things will get missed. Also it can be buggy. Like Linus said notifications in Teams is a hot mess.

Excellent on-air presence. As a person who used to hire news anchors, I would hire you. If you were a commercial news anchor, you would have to clean up, of course. But then you're pitching to a different demographic and have assumed the look that would appeal to that demo -- the "I've been stuck in JFK airport during a snow storm for three days sleeping on the benches" look. That stipulated, you take command of the TV screen, which is what you look for when you're trying to hire news readers. In addition, you're an excellent writer. Indeed, the writing is exceptional. So is the pacing of the video. Congratulations.
I love my Z fold 2. Great experience, nothing to complain about, love having a tablet that fits in my pocket. And everyone, literally everyone, even random cashier's and people on the subway, ask me about it and are amazed. No joke, I get a "Whoa, cool phone man" at least once every couple days
Watched this on my Fold2. Replaced the inner screen protector a few days ago and it feels much nicer than the stock one. Didn't experience those Instagram issues (mine also fills the entire screen).
Good Lock fixes any issue you have with apps not acting in a manner you want them to. People always mention Instagram not working well on Android devices, when it truth it only works well on iPhone. Even on iPad it does exactly what it does here, except there is no Good Lock to override how a app works.
@@ProSkythe download finelock on Google play. It's safe and is an intermediary to goodlock features. Got the fold 2 and had region restrictions as well. Someone told me to download that and it works so well!
I have to admit that the keyboard is the only real complaint I would have about the fold two. I am at 2 months with mine and I love it. I don't game much and it's mostly youtube. One thing I wish you had put into the positive side is that if you're watching youtube in tablet mode and close the phone, play continues on the front with no pause in video. Plus the AR features are fun. Plus there were a few freebies that came with the phone like the 4 months free youtube or 6 months Spotify. There is a michlen meal offer but that's only in NY California and Seattle. Solid review thanks for showing me how it compared to the gen 1 fold.
I have purchase two of said device (one for me and one for my mom). She hasn’t gotten hers. Currently I love the phone and it makes doing normal stuff cool and it’s a lot of fun. Makes you look at different ways to use a phone
I bought one too and personally I really enjoy it. I use the front screen a lot but when I watch RU-vid or play games like Terraria or Minecraft I unfold and voila a cool big screen
10:30 "Instagram looks like garbage" Linus, have you seriously not installed Goodlock from the Galaxy store?!?! My instagram works fullscreen perfectly after changing the settings in Goodlock. You can force all apps to work in split screen and change their aspect ratios and fullscreen all apps and force apps to open from the cover screen into the inside screen at fullscreen. (If you actually see this comment and try it out: Galaxy store > install Goodlock > install Multistar > I S2 Galaxy Fold option)
Because he, like many other people, would rather (and expect) this stuff to just work right out of the box. People don't buy a phone, especially as expensive as this one, because they want to have to install a bunch of things out of the box just to get it to work correctly.
@@ArtMcBain That's a very fair point, I agree tbh. I think in this case I would have expected someone like him, having his whole career and most of his life in tech, to know a bit more about his phone. Goodlock should honestly be a stock app on this phone, it really deserves to be.
Just for the information Linus: I have an original Galaxy Fold. The way you get the RU-vid community posts is by increasing the screen size in the display settings. Did the trick for me.

He did say that his remark does not apply to people with big hands. His are particularly small. I don't listen to any of his complains regarding size since he doesn't represent the average user. Even dbrand is bullying him for it (child-size bed). LOL.
Not only that, but you can swype with the pencil for quick notes that is more convenient then grabbing and opening the laptop. Even using the typing keyboard on iOS is fine. I used it to type this. Not as nice, but not near impossible as Linus said, and it would have been more inconvenient to grab the laptop when the iPad is easy to grab and quickly type with. Bit of a swing, and miss with that comment for anyone with an iPad and knows it isn’t true.
