Just finished up all the the body and paint work on this Acura. I try to explain the process as I go to make these videos educational as well as entertaining to watch. There were issues that I came across during the process of this build, such as fixing certain parts that were broken such as the air box, but I see it as a good thing because I was able to share the plastic welding process technic with you guys and hopefully it will be helpful to some. Other then then that, assembly process was pretty straight forward. I hope you enjoy this video. Cheers.

I have a 1989 Mustang GT which is currently at the shop due to a wreck that it was in. I just think about how much money I would save and getting all the body lines just right (since it is my car). Plus the amount of money I could make (side jobs) to help out financially is just mind blowing. Thanks for sharing and look forward to more videos!

Haha, thanks Geoffrey. I've shot paint in both environments, paint booth and back yard. Paint booth is more of a controlled environment so there is slightly less room for error if you're working in the booth, but it's not that hard to adjust to painting outside, there are just things you have to keep in mind like wetting the ground first if you're painting on pavement, or painting in the morning if you're spraying in the back yard, because the morning dew will keep the ground wet and most of the dust will stay contained there. Also most bugs don't come out until the afternoon/evening so that way there is lesser chance of them ending up in your fininsh 👍

Haha, you nailed it ! I'm right outside of Seattle, so Im dead smack in the middle of all the rain. The longer I live here the better sunny Texas is starting to look.

@@fix206 I used to live in Vancouver BC for a lot of years right in your backyard. I moved to the Yukon , the rain was just too depressing. After 25yrs its time to go somewhere warm.

I'm not a body guy, but I am so hooked on your videos. It is really gratifying to see someone take the time to learn a craft, and repair things that most people would just replace. You inspire people to at least try something unfamiliar; if our results don't match what your experience has produced, what's the harm? It was broken anyway, might as well at least try to fix it. Thank you for taking so much time and effort to show us how you do things, you are an inspiration!

Haha, thanks man!! I just really like sharing what I've learned over the course of a couple of decades. Really wish there was material such as this back when I was learning, and I'm still learning every day while I am wrenching, learning never stops :)

Man its about time we see you again! It came out awesome!. Is that a Tekna Prolite your spraying with? What kind of sealer do you use?

Thanks man, I got to post more often. I normally use 2 guns, Tekna Prolight for base and Iwata LPH400 for sealer and clear. Iwatas usually struggle when when it comes to metallics (maybe it was just a user error???), but I've had better luck with Tekna in that department. Oh yeah, I also use a crappy, cheap Harbor Freight gun for primer :) This time around I used Matrix sealer. It wend down pretty nicely.

@@fix206 yes the sealer went down very nice. I have a Prolite also, absolutely love it! I am actually using mine for clear aswell till i figure out another what to get for a dedicated clear gun. Never did tell you, but i finally got to trst the spotter i made, it worked good! I ordered a kit that had the slide hammer, keys, wiggle wire, finger attatchments, and some other accessories. Very happy with it, accept i need to get an attachment like yours that utilizes the caulking gun, so i can make many small pulls...

Iwatas are awesome clear guns, either LPH400 or the Supernova... I'm glad you got the spotter figured out, how many transformers are you running?

@@fix206 I only have the 2, because the box i built wouldnt fit a 3rd...i do have access to the 3rd if needed, but honestly it seemed to work good as is. Ever since i went with the larger wire, it got more powerful.

@@fix206 Il have to look into the Iwatas! I like the Supernova for its looks. The Pininfarina! I just got hired as a painter for a collision shop. I start next week. Ive been out of the trade fulltime for quite some time...But the opportunity shopped itself and im hoping it works out! Its been almost 10 yrs since being in a shop, im a bit nervous! Lol Especially that the shop is using water borne paint system, and il have to learn to mix paint, which ive never done either before. Fingers crossed!

Just about all the battery powered tools that I run are Dewalt, they've served me well over the years. I normally run a smaller 1/4 inch impact with a 3/8 adapter for most tasks, because it is quiet capable. But when more power is needed, like if I have to remove lug nuts to pull the wheels off the vehicle, or brake down suspension then I step up to the 1/2 impact.

That is the problem with metallic paint: When the light is "sof-ter", you can clearly see the paint difference. Especially as the paint was not really a close-match beforehand. 99% of the time, that is when you see cars (especially in traffic) that had repairs done.

Funnything is that the camera picks up the difference much more than the human eye. I’ve looked at the car from many different angles in different lighting conditions, asked my wife and friends if they could see the difference and no one could, but in the video it is more apparent

I am very impressed! I do not think Arthur could have done any better!!! May I ask you, In your state is it hard to have a car retitled after a salvage title has been issued? This car is obviously good as new! Thank you. Phillip Hall

Retitling procedure is pretty simple, just need to go to a state patrol vehicle inspection where they basically check to see that you have the receipts for all of the replaced parts, including airbags and such. I guess they just want to make sure that none of the parts had been stolen. So once you pass the inspection, you are issued a paper that you need to take to department of licensing along with the bill of sale paperwork from the auto auction where I purchased the vehicle from and from that point it's just a standard vehicle licensing procedure. And again, I do appreciate the compliment :)

Oh man it sure is... Between work and family, I normally work on car stuff on the weekends and holidays... But I want to start shifting more time to RU-vid, so I'll start dong more projects and posting more often. About to push another vid in just a couple of days and then another will follow soon there after. Also will start a full ground up resto mod project on a 1948 Chevy Truck this spring, i'v been gathering up the parts for it for the past 3.5 years, so that should be fun build that will yield plenly of filming material 👍

If you saturate the ground around the work area then I don't really get much dirt blowing into my pain... I used to paint in the paint booth before and even then you still get dirt in your paint, you just can't get away from it... But if you're careful, you can paint outside with good results

Thank you very much! Lots of "painters" would look down on outside painting because they think that there is no way to get good results that way and I just want to show folks that it is possible to get good results even if you don't have a nice shop with paint booth. Not sure if you've seen this video of mine where I fixed and then painted a Rolls Royce Ghost right in the driveway with amazing end result... Nice work how you repair things that anyone else would replace. I was particularly impressed with you skill at plastic welding, which is nearly impossible to do. It looked similar to aluminium welding, which is also really tricky. The strength of the plastic repair was incredible, just as good as an original undamaged part. Looking forward to the next video. Hope you can show a before and after at the end, as it's easy to forget what the wreck looked like to start with, when it looks like it was never even wrecked when it's finished.

Thank you Bruce, I was impressed myself by the strength of the plastic repair, must admit it came out better then I expected :) I'll have another video out this coming week and since it will be a last vid on of this particular vehicle, I'll do a recap of the project from the start. Nice job, I’ve been using the soldering iron style plastic repair kit from time to time and the results have been hit and miss it’s tricky getting enough heat into the repair and repair material so they flow together without overheating the plastic and ruining it. After watching this I ordered a rework station like the one you used it looks like a much better option. Thanks!

Glad my vid was helpful, good thing about the hot air station is you can feel how hard/soft working surface gets while you heat it and you work accordingly. Soldering iron style normally just melts the surface or burns right through.

It did turn out good. I've been thinking about getting one of hot air plastic welders looks like they work pretty good. I guess I'm going to get the air blower type I had been looking at the solder type also but the air ones get hotter well you talked me into it I'll get a air blower type thanks.

In my experience the hot air blower works great. I tried using a solder type iron in the past but the results weren't very good, because hot air heats the plastic thoroughly, thus resulting in better bonding and the soldering iron type just melts the surface plastic so there is not a whole lot of penetration

Sometimes I get cars from private parties, sometimes if there is a deal to be had I'll pick a car up from the auction.

Actually it matches pretty good in person... I didn't bland the paint onto the door, but you can't pick up the difference in person. Camera picks it up a bit more then the human eye...
