Looking forward to the engine overhaul. I think the 4960 is the nicest looking tractor on the farm. Really like the curved glass along the front of the cab.
KristianVinther1 These people that want the USA to become a Socialist Country are beyond being ignorant. If the USA becomes a Socialist Country. The Government Owns Everything including the peoples lives that want the USA to become a Socialist Country. The vast majority if not all Farmers will stop Farming ,destroy all their equipment, burn down all their Barns and anything used for farming before Socialism becomes Law. If you’re a Farmer? I don’t take what you do for granted. I have nothing but admiration and respect for Farmers.I know without Farmers the vast majority of people on earth will die from starvation.
always tough on the equipment in the winter.. BTW.. your "America First" hat offended me…. Just kidding.. Love seeing it. Thanks Wes for bringing us along
Hey Wes. Here's a tip for making that cold starting easier on the poor old 4960 starter and batteries. When you begin to wind/hit the starter. Grab the steering wheel and steer it hard from left to right and it will fire up in half the time. Relieving high pressure dead heading hydraulic oil in the steering circuit, zapping bulk power from the starter motor. This tip will also work on the 44 series as well and many other John Deeres. It's a John Deere thing. Haha actually I just saw you do it. Sorry
Yea you wouldn't replace a skid steer with a telehandler but a tractor yes, IF you were only towing on flat ground. We got a hydrostatic one and its the ducks nuts for loading our bale wrappers but towing them it struggles. Weighing 7.5 tonnes on little 405/70 R24 tyres means she likes to dig herself a nice set of ruts on soft ground too.
if im not mistaken the 4960 is not a real high compression unit to begin with. So, if you got some wear that can for sure make the cold blooded starts.
My tractor lost it's ether virginity this week. Didn't want to have to do it but she just wouldn't fire up at 15 degrees. Gave it a little shot and she roared to life. Hopefully I don't need to use it again this winter.
i got bobcat tl 470. its great when you need lift/load/move stuff but when it comes to transport it gives up when going uphill barely 14 km/h with 7t load (16t total with loader). that is the beauty of hydrostatic transmission, good pullforce(5t of pull), exelent speed control, no force at hi speeds . BUT there is option, some telehandlers have IVT transmission and have 170 hp engine witch is suitable for transport( eq: claas scorpion with VARIPOWER (PLUS), jcb with agripro dualtech VT and others) for Your Operation i would recomend 4 tons 7 m lift ( maybe more lift capability but no more lift height because more than 8m will get more than 2 part telescop)
As i watched this i thought" man this looks like our 7800s we had way back", then i looked for it and tada, its the same Enginge. They were reliable and powerful Tractors but starting them in the winter was just a nightmare. It was a bad Design without glow plugs but with ether injection.
You can pull loads home with a Telehandler !, I have a 2002 JCB 530/70 and used to regularly pull 40 foot artic trailer loads home with it no problem. The newer JCB’s are even better as they have a “torque lock” transmission, pulling article trailers over here in UK is a regular thing with Telehandler’s. The only reason I don’t pull trailers now is I do it all with a Heath Superchaser !, but still would if the need arose. I do like the looks of your skid steer tho it does look a sexy little thing to drive, ever thought of a Takeuchi if you where to change ?.
I could never imagine buying another 4960 for the same money you can buy a 8200-8400 that’s 10 times the tractor. I use a jd 644k with a hay squeeze to load trucks. It only works for me because my 4 stack yard are only 1 mile apart. For what you do it would not work. The hay squeeze works good for us 8 blocks 12 min trucks down the road.
Il take the 20 degrees you have over the negative 63 degrees we’re in for tomorrow. Normally when tractors get that hard to start they are due for an over haul my buddies 4230 wouldn’t start and anything under 50° if it wasn’t plugged in before It got overhauled. Now even at 0° post overhaul the thing fires right up no problem
After a hard day of work: I always like to roll a joint and watch y'all work. It is funny to hear you rail against the machine. Please keep up the great work ( I like Mushrooms ) LOL
Wes buddy have a look at the Grassman JCB series III launch video she might suit u, split gear box hyrolastic up to 19km and then mechanical box 19km to 40km looks good.
That 4450 has been a good tractor for you. Do you ever plug in the block heaters a couple hours before you need the tractor? I'm not a fan of leaving them plugged in over night.
Do you ever blend with No. 1 or use it at all over there in New Jersey? We have a new style of winter fuel here, DP-40; supposed to be good to -40, same power as No. 2.
Hey Wes after watching this video witb you walking down the driveway I started wondering if you still had your buffalo? Haven't seen it in any videos in a while.
Demo one of the new cat skidsteers track machine one of the bigger models you’ll be impressed much more comfortable and skidsteers are easy to move around and take up less space
I always cringe when I have to start one of my diesels in the bitter cold, (pickup, tractor, semi). If I'm hauling just around the corner, I to just make it look like I cared.
According to my boss 4960s r famous for blowing head gaskets, Have u ever had an issue? We have a 4850 and i love it almost as much as are 8320R with P/S. We've also got a 7830, 7630 both IVT which are the planting tractors, then an 8770 for running are vertical tillage and disc ripper
Looking to get a new skid steer did you ever try out a Cat? My family was a Deere family at the farm and a cat family in the heavy equipment at constriction company.
U would miss that skid steer if u got rid of it. At work they ran 2 different 325 models over 10 years I bought the second one from them for trade in value and they got a 324e that thing is the biggest pile of garbage. It responds like it's got half the pushing power and every 1,200 hours it's been breaking a final drive chains. After about 5,000 hours it started (cleaning) the exhaust filter every 1/4 of a tank of fuel and at less than 6000 hours the filter is plugged and it's in limp mode.
