Excellent video Charlie! I used to be a brick layer years ago, and that means one can become more addicted to watching these videos! Keep up the good work! :)
Over work your arms or legs and you may train yourself to lead with either, and end up #crippled in later life. You will alter your diet because your arms might no longer be able to grip or do anything mechanical ever again. No kneading dough, no chopping veg, no carrying a cup of tea, no walking, no hoovering, no nothing. If you have a small kitchen get ready for loads of gadgets. A side effect from years of gripping the ground with your leading foot, especially for those in mud and on wobbly scaffold is a fuming big toe later in life as it's sick of gripping. Tendons in your ankle will get sick of trying to control your foot, and your Knee will suddenly not like landing on anything. You might soldier on until your hips remind you that they have been over worked as well. On a good note you will get fantastic lockdown scores. If you have Viking blood in you and use a hammer a lot, chances are you'll get a Dupuytrens contracture in your right palm that curls your finger inwards and stops you putting your hand flat. Tendonitis or dual epicondulitus cut's your driving time along with everything else including doing up your shoe laces or a trouser belt. If you've worked over your head a lot, your shoulders will interfere with your sleep like your tendons and your hips do, and screw your quality of life for ever. I've managed to do all that and more whilst eating really well. Processed anything like food, or laying blocks or Plastering a wall, or cutting hair, or pulling veg, etc, etc, daily for a long period, is bad for us. The spreadsheet says number 32 must be finished by Friday, but the Doctor said you'll never make money with your arms again.
@@tommyb5244 yes i'd heard microwaved beef and onion pies was good for Dupuytrens contractures, luckily you don't have to eat it, you just rub it on liberally.
"Eat right for your blood type" This is something I learned in 2017 and it helped me out massively. You spoke some really wise words about diet and brick laying. I listened.
fair play charlie if you can survive on that diet you are young and fit ,but no way the average bricklayer 30/40/50s can do an 8 hour shift on curly cale and letuce ,you need egg and bacon ,said it before its not a fun day out and you dont need a gym session after work , the body can only take so much
You don't need the gym sessions but the diet advice he said applies to every person on this planet. Cut the sugar and the processed foods. Sausages are processed along with bacon, that shit is not good for you unless you get quality cured meats without the nitrates in them
Processed pork ie sausages and bacon are now proven to be a class 1 carcinogen (look it up). Proven to cause cancer. They taste bloody good though, but not to be eaten everyday.
Sorry Charlie but as a tradesman you’re top class and taught me a few new things. As an advisor on medical matters? Yeah I’ll listen to experts who’ve trained it and devoted their life to it. No offence.
@@joelsirr5239 put it this way. If I suffer from arthritis i go see my gp and take the course of action that is then given by the NHS. why? Because it’s what they do for a job. It’s their career. And it is constantly updating and getting better through science and research. What I won’t do is think ‘all doctors do is sell you pills so screw that just change my diet’. Hey, diet will help that’s true, but Charlie is a bricklayer and damn good one. Stick to what you know best. That’s all.
@@vitterpup cant argue with this. personally i think your initial comment was a bit pointless, mentioning that your not going to listen to a specific piece of advice, but i agree with your point.
Charlie no one seems to agree with you ,but I do mate your just trying to help, don't know why they be smartases, what to our said makes a lot of sense to me.
It's common knowledge that processed foods cause inflammation and joint problems. He's just giving you some brief information on how to live a healthier life. Everything he said is correct. Sugar is the worst of them.
Charlie mate, there are two types off Arthritis, Osteoarthritis and Rheumatoid Arthritis, Osteoarthritis is Wear and tear of the joints where the synovial fluid runs dry and that cushion just depletes and the bones in the joints just grind on each other, not pleasent. Rheumatoid Arthritis is a Autoimmune Disease where the body attacks itself.Trust me I've studied this for many years and extreme diet changes rarely have any effect in fact some people have had adverse affects doing this where some have had some success. The problem is everybody's body reacts differently to dietary change and one won't suit another I've tried it all over the years and none of it has made any difference to my condition so not through lack of effort, currently on two weekly Bio injections which cost 10k a year not a cure but stop it getting any worse, medication works for me Charlie 👍💙
There’s also Reactive arthritis which I had. It lasted with me about 6 weeks and started in my left wrist, stayed there and also went to my right wrist and within about three weeks was effecting every joint in my body. Fucking agony, after about six weeks it started easing and after about ten weeks finally left my right thumb. Weird as fuck but thankfully went away.
Also there is traumatic arthritis. Happens after an injury. Broke my leg on the job pretty bad. Got a rod and some screws in there and ever since I can't get a regular x-ray because the arthritis just shows like a cloud on the whole thing. You stay on the trowel long enough any diet will not prevent the inevitable. My two cents. Love Charlie's channel and yours too Bricklayers Worldwide. 👍
The setting out of the footing was so easy to understand... learning so much off your videos so thankyou.. Gunna try out the trowel you got too instead i went for 10 inch
you are 100% right as they say you are what you eat , im lucky i grew up in rural Ireland as a kid and you eat what you have in the garden or whats running around your yard or the closest field lol
Right I'm 50, I got my city and guilds in bricklaying 28years ago. I've done a bit of bricklaying since then but I've been in the print trade for last 25 years which is shit. I want to get back into bricklaying. Whats the chances of me getting a job as an improver and what would I earn to start with. I'm in Hampshire. Cheers. Love the videos Charlie. Yep good food makes you feel good. Bad food makes you feel shit!!
Have some arthritis and also raynards. 3 years ago a tendon in the hand broke because it was rubbing over the arthritis on the wrist. I am still outside every day summer or winter. Just prefer this to being inside. Will catch up with me even more but for now love being outdoors.
Can agree that healthy diet contributes to better joints ect but I don't think saying doctors are useless and only there to sell pills, they've dedicated there life and gone to uni ect to help people, whenever I've been to the doctors they've always mentioned having a better diet, it's common sense
I know it works for alot of people. I get huge benefits from smoking normal weed. I'm add or adhd as we call it af. It knocks me down a notch or four. Cbd did sweet fa for Mr.
Charlie which form of arthritis are you talking about Osteoarthritis or rheumatoid, with rheumatoid it’s the immune system getting messages that there is an infection in the joint it kicks into action and sends white corpuscles to the joint doesn’t find any infection so they attack the linings in the joint. Osteoarthritis is just joints that are easily affected by wear and tear. All the medication I take for rheumatoid arthritis is designed to knock down the immune system to stop it attacking my joints.
Apprenticeships is about learning, then instilling a bit of production mentally now and again and definitely thereafter. The improvement stage in years after depends on your trade. Thereafter, have the “confidence” to do anything within your trade. Your not expected to know everything, even when your at any age. But with confidence, you can do anything.
Osteoarthritis is the most common type of arthritis in the UK, affecting nearly 9 million people. It can occur at any age as a result of an injury or be associated with other joint-related conditions, such as gout or rheumatoid arthritis. Osteoarthritis initially affects the smooth cartilage lining of the joint. This makes movement more difficult than usual, leading to pain and stiffness. Once the cartilage lining starts to roughen and thin out, the tendons and ligaments have to work harder. This can cause swelling and the formation of bony spurs called osteophytes. Severe loss of cartilage can lead to bone rubbing on bone, altering the shape of the joint and forcing the bones out of their normal position. The most commonly affected joints are those in the: hands spine knees hips. Rheumatoid arthritis affects more than 400,000 people in the UK. It often starts when a person is between 40 and 50 years old. Women are 3 times more likely to be affected than men. In rheumatoid arthritis, the body's immune system targets affected joints, which leads to pain and swelling.
Arthritis is a condition brought on over time for the joints. Where one bone meets another there is a natural gel like protective barrier that wears down over time due to repetitive action or just general wear and tear until you’re at an age where joints are almost dry contact which causes friction and the inflammation you mentioned as you age which gives you the pain & discomfort It’s nothing to do with what you eat Although you’re right about processed food it is crap But arthritis is not caused by what you put in your mouth bud
Charlie great advice mate ! I'm on the keto diet atm which is no sugar and no carbs. I've worked for nearly twenty years as a chippy and always ate shit the simple thing being knowledge I haven't had any sugar or carbs in around a month too and feeling great ! Sugar is one of the biggest killers! Thanks for reaffirming this for me anyway every self help person I've listened to based around diet says exactly the same thing! At the moment I'm following a guy call the CarnivoreMD look him up he offers excellent nutrientional advice which I am working my way towards after Keto ! Take care mate thanks for giving good solid advice
Take the diet one step further and just eat beef, you’ll feel even better. Our digestive systems are not made to digest vegetables properly either. The cow, or any ruminant animal (animals with four stomachs) do the work of digesting the vegetables for us.
Aurther who? Celery juice (using a home juicer is best) and on its own is a very good one also. Absolutely 100% on what you're saying about the pill selling for the pharmaceutical industry
Love the chat at the end about apprentices. 10 year trade to learn is true, I keep saying it should never be a 2 year course as how can anyone be expected to be ‘qualified’ after 2 years. I have an apprentice and I’ve encouraged him to do the 3rd year with me as it will benefit him so much in the long run. The money part is also true, I remember being on the worst money out of all the boys on my college course and always wanted more. But looking back I wish someone could have shook me and told me it didn’t matter as the money will come in the end!
I'm a big advocate of you are what you eat. For me personally, the Mediterranean diet is great. It's massively anti-inflam and not boring at all. Just look at those elderly Greek or Spanish etc people that live active lives in their 80's - 90's, it's all because of their diet. They don't and never have ate shite from Maccy d's or kebabs or shit loads of Monster energy. I have followed that diet strict for a few years now and have never felt better, not even when i was in my 20's.
Spot on charlie.! Good diet is important. Ive early osteo arthritis in mi fingers and knees..35 yr in the game 1cod liver oil capsule alternate days helps... ive been doing 40 squats while brushin mi teeth in a morn to strengthen the ligaments round mi knees its helping .👍can Aimy skip as well you ?😊
Just a quick tip on making sure your corner is square ⬛ use the old school method 345. 3ft one way, 4ft the other way and it should measure 5ft across the corner.
I was surprised I never seen him square his lines befor laying but it is video and not all is shown so I just assume he has after all it ain’t his first rodeo
Also started this diet as a carpenter, huge difference in one month, no aches, no days where i feel knackered in the evenings, muscles building up faster. Well worth the cost of the food.
"Here to sell us pills"! Never a truer word spoken,Charlie! I went into a doctors surgery the other day to do a quote for redecoration, and came out with tablets!! BTW, What do advise for a bad back Dr Charles?!
Well said chaz. Every time I put my trowel down no money is being earnt. All these lads want top money from day 1 ?!!! I laugh like foook when they can’t even load out or organise the forks etc. Thinking for two people everyday single day is a major hurdle on a price. The worst ones are weed smokers ffs. I’ve never ever ever know a weed smokers to be any good at anything except bullshitting their way through life.
Mate I enjoy your videos But coming out with things like doctors sell pill’s for the pharmacy is total shit Enjoy your life don’t abuse it and if you want to indulge then everything in moderation Eat healthy yes have a beer yes But more importantly enjoy your life you aren’t here long Keep up the good work Mr C let the doctors do their thing and go smash those bricks and blocks down
Doctors are there to sell pills for big pharmaceutical companies. They don’t want cure. They want everyone popping pills everyday marking them trillions. Wakey wakey
I don’t drink (never touched it) don’t smoke (asthma) Registered severely blind and hard of hearing Was diagnosed with RP (retinitis pigmentosa) at the age of 36 and specsavers failed to pick it up and have had it all my life apparently from early teens and I try my hardest to eat healthy but one it could be me but is it expensive to eat healthy or is it just and I am a fussy eater I love my kebabs and I love my coke (cola) 😂 I tried cutting that out and blimey I felt so low after a week I had to have my sugar and as you said it’s the sugar it gets you hooked I know drink Coke Zero Yeah still not ideal but better than full fat coke
Medicine is the most worthwhile degree to do and of biggest benefit so society. If that's what Charlie thinks of medicos then he's completely trashed, devalued and debased whatever it is Amy is doing at uni.
I like your chats in the morning and the sum up at the end of the day. It’s just a shame money ruins the world but we do need to earn a wage but the greed takes over. 👍
Interesting intro - you should make that into a standalone video and show us what you are eating now. It is tricky to find a good and varied diet. You are spot on about GP, many have monetised their practices after all the BMA brain-washing. There are still some great doctors if you can get access to some hospital doctors who do have real interest in patients, not just making money. So yes you are right, look after yourself to avoid a life of pain, and don't assume doctors can bail you out when it goes pair shaped. The good news is having changed your diet you will find you start to enjoy the new stuff you are eating. Food is the greatest medicine. GP sadly get minimal training in nutrition. The other health point is exercise. As builders you have that cracked, and long as you don't get silly with it. Best of luck to all in the trade.
Charlie mate. I have arthritis in my hip lol I have no joint it’s not inflammed, it’s non existent 😂 my body has started growing bone on my hip joint to compensate.. how would diet stop that 🤪 I’m on the list for a hip replacement. It’s not as clear cut as you make it brother.
@@martin2466 thanks Martin . Yes mines the same no joint at all and extra bone is growing on the ball and snagging as it moves , not nice. Been waiting 6 months already , no idea how long the list is. What I can say though is no amount of healthy eating will cure my hip lol
NO OFFENCE CHARLIE OR NEW GUY but if u talk that much and not be 2 steps ahead of u on ur corner set up a call centre be more his job u shouldnt have to wait for basic setup quicker doin it urself sad to say but i dont think he will last long on this tight nit machine take care and take no offence to this comment but my setup he be gone today sorry if it sounds harsh
Charlie ,god willing ule stay strong for ever .but as the ten years catch up .especially in the hard building trade . Of course the cilly tests on each other when starting off .I my days cement 100k bags .one on each shoulder then see how far you can run .cilly cilly .I couldn't even lift one of the floor now .but yes u are wot you eat .
Your 'medical advice and opinions' were probably best left unsaid. 'Drs are basically, um, just sell pills for pharmacies' is shameful. Please consider deleting this video. I did.
