I can accept it as the computer filling the gaps in description with presumed most likely real-world examples. You usually don't find slightly inclined metal tables outside of a medical context.

yeah that was pretty jarring. they could have shown a basic metal table, then cut away and skip forward, showing everyone looking tired and frustrated like they had spent a long time getting the table right.

@@adrianmizen5070 Problem is that would turn the scene into something comedic instead of horror like. They were going for scares not laughs. So they had to keep it short enough. For my money it moved at a reasonable pace.

If you mention an inclined metal table, that's the first thing I imagine. So did the computer. The computer registered from the uncertainty expressed by the instructions that this was not a mediculous modeling exercise, but a conceptual brainstorming. This stuff is probably coming, and it should really worry us because it's not pushed by the Federation, but by a technocratic control regime. ChatGPT is an exemplary name.

While it's a little silly how the computer generated a very specific type of table with only vague instructions, this is still possibly my favourite scene in the whole series. @williamjameslehy1341

I suspect that they had the same experience, but interpreted it very differently. Like imagine taking someone from the stone age, bronze age, ancient Rome, and mediaeval England to a 21st Century steel mill, aboard a naval submarine, or to a city centre like Piccadilly Circus or Times Square. They'd probably describe it in very different terms when they got back to their own time.

@williamjameslehy1341 I've read of a few possible alien abductions in the Victorian era that were described as using technology around at the time, but as you say it could be Victorian reasoning interpreting futuristic technology I've seen Stone Ages carvings very clearly depicting bizarre creatures in flying machines we would call flying saucers Perhaps aliens, inter-dimensional or time travellers
