It will be worth the struggle! Gable end beam additions done. Solo building just takes longer! Ch15

Welcome back to The Cliff everyone. With only about 6.5 hours on location, I was able to get the gable end beam additions done with the extra rafters. I had both some successes, but also some more struggles. But that's the name of this game I guess!
I am happy to say that this rafter madness is done (mostly - a few tweaks need to be done, but...mostly).
I think I realize the main problem (based on viewer comments) I was having with the birds mouths, by the last 2 rafters. Oh well, next time I will do them much better! (🤞🏼).
To address any safety concerns - I will begin to wear a harness when I feel it's necessary, but I just haven't felt the need for it yet. I appreciate everyones concerns 💝
Thanks for joining me and following along on this slow-going journey. I think the next cabin build I tackle is going to be at our home location - that is going to seem like such a luxury being able to just work from home. 😊
See you all in the next video!
💕Michelle

It's amazing what can happen when you just put your head down, put one foot in front of the other and keep working. What you've done so far is amazing. I can't wait to see this thing finished👍👍👍

I'm a 21 year military combat veteran and a contractor. Woman, you blow me away with your grit, your stamina, your can-do attitude and your incredible youthful beauty. I couldn't believe it when I read you're a mother of SIX. Is there anything you can't do? I spent my last 2 - 3 field years in the military training and working with the U.S. Army Special Forces. Congratulations on your first Barge Rafter fitting so well. The joint looks as good as many Pros can achieve. Yeah, the birdsmouths on each rafter will be different unless the framing is near perfect in dimension, squareness, levelness, plumbness, etc, etc, etc. As such, and when practical, scribing is a good choice. Congrats Again!

Michelle, I have been a woodworker for over 40 years! So do you know how you can find the flaws on a woodworkers project? You don't have to, he/she will point them out!! 🤣 I can't tell you how many projects I have had to pivot and come up with a new plan, mostly because I measured wrong, cut wrong or ____________ fill in the blank! We all make mistakes, so don't sweat it, you will be the only one that knows.................well, you and your almost 70,000 subscribers! 😂😂😂 Great work! I love watching you work and learn! Not to mention I LOVE the view of your river and mountains! You are so lucky to have a property with that fabulous view! Thank you for sharing your project with us! I’ve recently become manager of two young guys who’ve never used tools before, to say the least it’s been a challenge as I’m inclined to do it myself…and I can do it myself in half the time and save on their wages. Learning to step back and coach (as opposed to speaking sharply) them through the problem solving of everyday work is a blessing for everyone involved. If you made a template for each rafter cut and then measure point to point from ridge to top of wall you should be able to hit those right on without carrying them up to mark, regardless of minor variations in framing. But then I am watching from thousands of miles away.😁 All in all it's looking great!

All humor aside michy your doing fine. Your adapting, and overcoming, obstacles. Just put blocking out at a right angle and allow for the thickness of the siding. The ones at the top just to where the top is the same height as the top of the rafters. Were you planning to insulate the roof? Stay hydrated especially when drinking sodas with caffeine or anything with caffeine follow up with water, please. And yes your window for getting the roof on and at least water proofed is closing. Not something to be doing when it's snow "the white flying " . But your doing fine just keep pushing forward, lots of respect for you. Now get busy beaver or woodchuck, and make that wood pile disappear. So until next time God bless amen. ❤ 🦫
@michygoss7148
@michygoss7148 2 года назад
Yes I’m going to insulate the roof and walls. Adding all insulation to the outside surfaces. I was wondering if blocking was necessary on the ridge beam? I was thinking to skip that if not necessary. But will clearly be blocking along the walls.
@saintracheljarodm.holy-kay2560
@saintracheljarodm.holy-kay2560 2 года назад
@@michygoss7148 yes michy the blocking on the ridge will be running plumb, not square like the blocking at the rafter tails. The reason this is important is because, structurally it prevents lateral roll, of the rafters. The other is to prevent birds and flying insects from living in the roof. If the structure was larger it would be necessary to have ventilation in the bays between the rafters. You could drill 1½ holes evenly spaced and then put screen on the back side of the blocking. But the size of the cabin and roof ratio is fine for a closed system. Meaning that the heat of the stove will be sufficient to keep everything nice and dry. Where a larger roof would need to have some air transfer. 🤔 the square footage ÷2= cubic inch feed ratio. FYI. That number drops to half if there is a wooden floor with stem walls. That also is subject to climate zones. Hope that answers your question. Smile God loves you, amen.
