Where I lived in the 1960s you had a choice between Southern Television on Channel 11 and London ITV on Channel 9 because we were exactly half way between Croydon and the Isle of Wight. The signal strength was the same on both channels. As I remember, at least in the late 1960s and 1970s ITA testcard transmissions were accompanied by classical music while BBC testcard transmissions played light music. None of the ITA recreations I have seen on RU-vid use the original classical music accompaniments I remember which included pieces by Grieg, Beethoven and Borodin.
Alan Randall it may well be Mantovani ... only because prior to ITA tapes going all classical it was predominantly Monty and Herb Alpert music played All the BBC stuff was specially recorded but any ITA stuff could be purchased in your local record shop if you knew artist and track name
