This is another #101 guide to try and help you identify and accurately purchase milsurp firearms. This time we examine the wide-world of Italian Carcano Carbines. We cover the early M91 Cavalry and TS models, then get into the interwar M91/24 and M91/28, and wrap things up with the M38 and M91/38 series.

I own 2 Carcano Cavalry carbines. They're really cool. 1917 and 1941 manufactured. 1917 is hex barrel.

Thank goodness I found this video. I specialize in Mausers and have not a clue when it comes to Carcano rifles. However, being an avid collector, I never shy away from collecting WW1 and WW2 collector pieces. Thank you for the awesome knowledge on these! Hoping to get a deal on this next auction.

The irony is pretty big, when a blind man has to point out the differences of rifles to explain a Shop where they went wrong with the nomenclature

Misha, thanks for the lesson. The Italians sure had a lot of configurations going making them complicated but you remedied it. A+

Hey nice vid bro, but could you go more in depth about the markings. I just got my first carcano and after watching this vid I think I’ve figured out which variant I got (m91 Calvary carbine) but mine has some markings I can’t figure out what they are, they go as follow/ PNA or RNA they look very similar so I don’t know what they usually put,, RE, and I guess the serial number is YL 1230 it has the same number on the stock and a letter B as well. Lastly the serial number on the barrel near the rear sight and a slash Inbetween 3 and 0 so it looks like (YL12314) doesn’t that mean anything?

Are most of the Cavalry carbine stocks interchangeable? I have an M38 Cavalry carbine. But debating between having a gun smith fix a small crack from the tang of the receiver or just picking up a cheap RTI M91 Cavalry Carbine and putting the stock on the M38 Cav Carbine. Thoughts?

I have a Carcano nearly identical to the middle one. Do you have any info on the forward sling mounting bar? The rear and front sling bar on my Carcano is missing, the rear has even been filled in with a decent looking repair (wood glued in) But it appears as if the front sling bar was never installed, I also can’t find them anywhere online for sale. The rear sling bar is easy to find tho

I recently came across a carcano long rifle with a fixed rear sight, any idea what hat might have been? It seemed to be fitted into a TS stock despite having the longer barrel.

The cavalery exemplary you have is produced after 1935. The barel nut is rounded, and they started it after 35

I found a 1940 XVII Carcano 6.5 SN 6896. It looks like someone ran out of ammo and used it to beat the crap out of someone or something. All that's left if the barrel, bolt, trigger and half of the stock. Found in Idaho. Should I restore it or???

Misha, a late comment here, and greetings from Finland again. I have one of those bayonets, but it's slightly different from the one you showed. The general appearance and the folding mechanism are the same, but instead of a button to release it from the rifle, it has a spring loaded lever. It had always been around and staying in the "every random thing" drawer in the shed, and my dad has no recollection of its origins, being born after the war. The best guess is that his father brought it back home from the war. No idea if he lost the rifle and/or just forgot the bayonet in his backpack, or wanted to keep a fancy memento, or just found it lying around and picked it up without actually lying. (English is funny! :D )
@iac4357
@iac4357 2 года назад
@aki There were 3 different types of bayonet catches. Four types if you include conversions. Type A- Locking Tab mounted on Bayonet. Type B- Locking Switch mounted on the bayonet's Frame. Type C- Bayonet now secured by a Push Button on the Frame.
