I think they're definitely the best breed of dog to own. I have 6 now and just got two new puppies! They're awesome dogs. My oldest one is 12 now and she's the best dog ever!
Your Iggies are adorable! We have adopted retired racing greyhounds for 24 yrs. We have a soft spot for the XL, goofy boys and those with previous hock/leg breaks. We’ve had 3 males over 94 lbs and all were just 5 lbs heavier than their race weight. I currently have my 94 lb Archibald curled up in my arms like a baby. He has no idea he’s a giant Borzoi size hound and thinks he’s a tiny lapdog. He insists on sleeping between my hubs and I in our king sized adjustable bed at night. It’s pretty funny seeing him roached out taller/longer than me! I’m only 5’1 and my hubs is 6’2”. Archie just spreads out and becomes the middle spoon in our bed. Sighthounds are just so darn sweet and have such loving dispositions. Archie goes almost everywhere with me because he has SA as our only hound (we lost our Atticus to Osteo during COVID). He rocks his winter coats, sweaters and pajamas which creates quite a bit of attention for him. He’s become a minor celebrity in our Birmingham, AL suburb. All the places that give treats, cookies and puppies cups all know Archie and happily does tricks for goodies. He knows 10 verbal commands and 6 sign language commands. If we could get him over his SA, I would do Pet Therapy volunteer work with him. Two of my older hounds were Therapy dogs and were very popular in the program. I would love to have an Iggy but my hubs fears he would accidentally step on them and hurt them. He loves big dogs so we’ve always adopted retired racers. It’s getting really difficult to find them in the US now that there is only 2 tracks left but some of the groups are importing Galgos from Spain and Greyhounds from the UK and Ireland. The plane ticket from Europe makes it much more expensive but having such a wonderful, sweet, healthy fur baby is worth it!
Back in the 70s, if our pet labrador wanted a walk, we would open the back door to let him out. He would return by himself in a few hours. How times have changed.

my sister had one and like these pictured here it shivered often. Nervous or just cold I don't know. But boy or in her case GIRL could she run when outside. Dazzling. She loved it. I know people say horse racing is cruel but I think those nags love to run. And so do all three of the greyhound family.

It’s probably way too late now, but these look like Ruffwear webmaster harnesses. They are great for deep chested dogs as they are very adjustable. Even have a little handle on the back.
Since you the producers of these entertaining vignettes are reading my comments PLEASE advise me-is it nervousness they display or is it something else. I don't know a vet I can ask . Owners like you may know.
@@davidmeltzer1871 Hi! This is just how this breed is :) they’re usually very nervous in general, overly attached to their owners and due to lack of fur and fat, they tend to shiver a lot more than other breeds. These boys won’t go out without clothes if it’s below 50!
@@hooseontheloose I guess a lot of hair would slow any of the 3 down. I do like seeing how they react when you mention the dog park. I think they ACTUALLY know the place you are talking about. All dogs are smart and I do think they recognize their names and other two legged phrases.
Rather than using a car seat, the safest way to transport your precious IG is in a quality dog crate. A hard sided plastic one is preferable to a metal mesh one which can catch delicate IG feet and legs, especially when they’re puppies. A crate can protect your dog if there’s an impact (car accident) or penetrating object. It can also keep them contained inside rather than escaping an open door/window and running loose on a busy road. They aren’t as fun or cute as car seats but they are safer and that’s the first priority.
Do you work from home? It is tough to leave them home in a kennel all day. They’re very destructive so no matter how hard I tried, I ended up having to kennel him because he was always getting into something as a point of soothing his separation anxiety
I fortunately do work from home! I get to be with them 24/7.. I’m not sure how I’d be able to handle it if I were to be gone for 9+ hours. I’d definitely look into daycare if that was the case! These boys are too needy, too spoiled, not create trained and they seek constant attention/affection/companionship/warmth. I got them knowing I’d commit to working from home for the long run!
Why do you dress those dogs up in those ridiculous costumes? They DO NOT need that nor do they like it. My breeder made me promise that I wouldn't dress them up like dolls. Show them some respect and dignity. It isn't about you.
this breed and other small dogs need clothing to keep warm. other large dogs are ok with jackets during cold weather. even horses get blankets laid over them to keep warm
I was the original poster in this thread. I have changed my mind and I see what you are doing now. I am a big fan and have seen everything you have done. Your dogs and you are a special situation and I see how you shower them with love and affection. They are great entertainment and I thoroughly enjoy you and your husband and your four beautiful children. I owned six whippets over the years and I miss them all terribly. I travel too much now and my doggie days are over. I live vicariously through you and your family. All the best to you my friends!😃
I don’t agree that they’re being ridiculed. It was chilly, so they had to wear clothes to keep warm, otherwise they’d shiver and be uncomfortable; as they have almost no body fat. You’ll notice most iggys wear clothes! Other than the adorable outfits, they just had a car ride, a yummy snack, fun in the park with friends and a lovely dinner! 🥰 nothing ridiculous about that, just business as usual.
@@hooseontheloose I completely agree. But we have had heard the same criticism from strangers that are unaware of how easily they get cold. It's a delicate animal with little body fat. They don't understand
Sighthounds have almost no body fat, a higher metabolic rate, higher baseline temperature and most have very thin skin and slick thin smooth coats. All sighthound breeds evolved from the Saluki and originated in desert or very temperate regions. The Afghan Hound, Borzoi, Scottish Deerhound, The Irish Wolfhound and the Lurcher are the only sighthounds with thicker, longer hair that helps keep them warm. The general rule is if you need a sweater or coat, so do they! I’ve had retired racing greyhounds for 24 years and they wear coats, snoods, boots(in snow) sweaters or pajamas when it’s cold. It’s cruel to let them get cold stress. They prefer being warm and cuddled up in the pjs and will let us know if they are cold and want them put on. Racers get used to coats early on as they wear racing silk coats and the muzzles when racing. So pjs or even holiday costumes/sweaters are fine with them if it’s cold. Our first hound Ava actually preferred to get new clothes and accessories over toys when we went shopping. She loved dressing up and strutting her stuff like a model/diva. She dressed up for almost every holiday and went trick or treating with my identical twin nephews. She was always a big hit and loved all the ear scritches and attention she received. My male hounds only dress up for cold weather and prefer toys when shopping. Ava was also a Pet Therapy Ambassador and brought so many smiles to the seniors at nursing homes we visited. They loved seeing her come in her costumes like Princess Lea (complete with braided buns on a headband) in the white dress, as a bumble bee with wings, University of Alabama football cheerleader, Mrs Santa, an Elf, Rudolph and an angel with wings at Christmas. This year we took Archibald to Bass Pro Shoppe for a holiday picture with Santa. He was dressed in a tacky Christmas sweater that lit up, wore a necklace of light up bulbs and a headband with a tree and lights that lit up (matched his sweater). He was so chilled and calm, the photographer asked us to help him get the small kids to look at him instead of Santa. Many were scared of Santa but stopped crying and stared at Archie who sitting on a blanket under the camera. Many frazzled parents thanked us for helping and Archie loved getting so much attention. He adores children so it made him happy and he was rewarded with extra treats and a bully stick for his help. If it made any of my hounds unhappy to wear clothes/pjs/costumes, I wouldn’t make them. One of our hounds Augie, didn’t like hats or headbands so we didn’t make him wear them. He loved his pjs and insisted we put them on and then tuck him in his bed with a fleece blanket every night. Each hound can be different in their preferences but most are happy to have a warm coat or sweater on a chilly day. Archie is 94 lbs and almost the size of pony. It always makes people smile to see him walking down the aisle at Home Depot or outside Chick Fil A wearing his sweater or coat. We have fun with it and he always gets lots of attention and extra treats which makes him happy too!
