Starting from scratch has enabled us to implement a more sustainable existence at La Bolla, not only in the renovation and going off-grid, but also with the planting. We want to encourage more bio-diversity through the garden without using that all-too precious resource: water. This episode is probably suited more to gardeners interested in a waterwise, drought-tolerant approach, although for everyone else there are some pretty stark 'before' and 'after' contrast pictures of how far we've come at La Bolla (if you want to fast-forward!). Sally is a self-confessed nerd at research, using spreadsheets and plotting plants on this 4-acre patch of land. As a complete novice to dry gardening, with no training and only a little bit of gardening and allotment experience in the UK, the scale of this DIY dry garden being created from scratch was more than daunting...more than 450 plants later and we think it's looking pretty good!
Our website has more info about the our project at La Bolla: www.labollapuglia.co.uk. We'd be delighted if you subscribed for the 3-weekly future episodes about renovation of this beautiful original stone lamia, energy and water self-sufficiency, land management of the 4-acre olive and fruit orchard and drought-tolerant gardening. We are also on Instagram at @LaBollaPuglia and love getting your comments and questions.
