If they are invisible, it is because they managed to get away from mistreatment and bad life but not accepted as equal Europeans. If there were so many who had assimilate or accepted as equal of whites, they would have been mainstream and focus on those who are not mainstream. The truth is what you don't want to accept. Romanians have a real problem with this. I worked in Romania and almost every person I met made it a point to tell me they weren't gypsies.

Most countries in Europe won't let them better themselves, some want jobs but no one will hire them because they are Roma, so they are left to live like this, when you feel like everyone is against you, how to you have hope and better yourself? I don't know what you are, but are you going to tell me you have no bad people, they come in all back grounds, does not mean they are all bad.

I wonder if anything at all can be accomplished in terms of improvement of Roma lives. Can anybody offer an answer that has a possibility of changing their endless poverty.

No we are not lol. If anything, yes they traced our heritage back to India but remember one thing, we are not called ' gypsy' for no reason. We were travellers once, which meant that they cannot technically trace us back to any country. We are even written in the bible as 'travellers' so no we are not all Indians. My family for example, have lived for generations in Spain (gitano community) and I cannot say we are Indian because we have like nothing in common. I'm used to being hated as a gypsy so saying 'we're full' and other hatred comments doesn't do a thing. No stress but freedom and larga vida la gitanos.

I don't think they are Indians. Because the concept of India is relatively late as compared to their migration. So we can say that they share ancestry with the modern Indians and that's all. They are the citizens of whatever country they are in. Don't get too emotional and say or do stupid things. We are already a nation of more than 1.3 billion people. If you have space in your home keep them there. We do love them due to blood-bonds but they are on their own. Lets leave it that way.

It could be a social problem similar to that of Irish Travellers. Many believe in childhood marriage, large families, and do not encourage education or keeping a steady job. The mainstream society does not help in offering guidance and training, often avoiding confrontation or discipline in schools and just dumping the travellers out early from schools when a little encouragement and raising expectations might improve things. It is a difficult 2 way street. In many ways it is similar to relationships between Aborigines and First Nations in Australia and Canada, not to mention Native Americans ( formerly called Indians) in the USA. From my personal experiences I lack the necessary social skills and techniques to relate to and handle these people. I avoid if at all possible. I would sadly say that I am not alone in that life choice.
