@andreamartini7880
@andreamartini7880 3 года назад
@@zizmmmdli181 Coming to this, your blaming is absolutely pathetic. Luigi smiled (as he said!), didn't laugh, because it was a very tense fight, and many athletes tend to smile when they release tension. He was probably thinking "Wow, I can throw a punch, I still can score and do the best of myself". If you search other fights of him, you will see the same slight smile even when he receives a point or loses. Furthermore, Rafael wasn't even looking at him during that slight smile. Man, let's try not to put anger between athletes after such a wholesome event.

I'm a black belt (Karate, but admittedly 40 years not practicing because of injuries and over training). And I gotta say, this is one of the weirdest fights I've ever seen. I have no idea what the hell was going on over there, and why points and penalties were given or not given there. Such a shame for this happening at the fight for the gold medal. No wonder Rafael just walked out without congratulating the Italian. Strange thing is even before they started I looked at the referee and I thought 'something is odd with this guy, he looked inexperienced for this gold medal fight". Just intuition.

As a complete incompetent I ask: shouldn't martial arts teach you to respect your opponent and also to accept defeat? Or are these just nice words? The Italian may have exceeded in celebrating the victory (although, being the first Olympic gold in the history of karate, I don't find it completely out of place), but the Azerbaijani should have had the good taste to grant him a handshake, which it costs nothing: especially since he is a legend of this discipline. Unless he believed he had suffered some impropriety not on the part of the referee but of the Italian himself: obviously I cannot express an opinion on this, not knowing the rules, but it seems strange to me since there were five referees (all incompetent?) plus the help of slow motion. In any case, I assume that the scoring system was established by the international federation of karate with the approval of the IOC, also because it was the debut at the Olympics. It seems easier to me to think of the anger of the Azerbaijani who perhaps had already thought he had won the gold medal before the match that instead he lost by only one point. Also because at the next Olympics karate almost certainly won't be there, so he won't even have the opportunity to try again. (Sorry for my bad English!)

It's ridiculous how this isn't an Olympic sport and just has a wild card for these games, but climbing a wall and skateboarding are Olympic sports. Judo and karate are the most famous marital arts and judo is standard in the Olympics since 1972. This is maybe the pinnacle of martial arts, when someone mentions martial arts it's almost always some form of karate. It's also a bit ridiculous how people can't appreciate the beauty of the sport and find the points system bad and can't understand that true martial arts isn't about punching someone to death. The combination of endless attacking/defensive possibilities and the effectiveness/execution of them to win is breathtaking. If that's too much for you to follow I don't think the problem is in the sport.
@tonypaella
@tonypaella 3 года назад
The problem is that when the majority of people, including me, admittedly, think combat sports, they don't expect whatever is going on here. And I'm not disrespecting Karate itself. There are full contact variations that are real fights. This isn't. Personally I actually think the Olympic variant is ridiculous. I'm a boxer so I'd much rather appreciate karate combat. That's real fighting. Just my opinion.

thats a fair and accurate statement. I did did karate and fought in countless tournaments big and small from age 5 to 17. I transitioned from karate to kickboxing for the same reasons everyone is hating on karate, I find it unfair and often the winner is not necesarily the better fighter. People would sometimes intentionaly fake injuries to get the other fighter a strike, 3 strikes and you lose. But as an art its great. My skills were well applicable in kickboxing, and after only 3 months I was called to the national team, and the rest is history. . . In my opinion its a great sport for kids to learn or at least get a good idea on how to fight without actually taking damage, learn the movements, the timing, etc... But this rediculous. Especially the +75kg divison final. What a farse this sport has become. Even in junior divisions they tolerated accidental contact...

@nicolacarswell9888

It's more about the context. Lashing a hand into someone's face isn't considered a score if it wasn't done under control when there is strong contact or without intent to score when the punch is a glancing blow. Weird rules I suppose but they're there to prevent "competition-karate" from dominating any more than it already does. tl;dr Rules are there to try balance martial and art.

Complimenti a busa'...
