I want to start by saying I AM NOT A VET!
I am a lifelong farmer and a nurse. I have run in to many different emergencies when raising and calving out both beef and dairy cattle. This is not a comprehensive list nor is it absolutely everything you need to keep on hand year round. Every cow, every farm and every situation is different. This is a video of the items I like to keep on hand because my luck is always bad luck. Emergencies never happen when it's sunny, warm and Wednesday morning and the vet is 5 minutes away.
If you are unfamiliar with the common problems for dairy cattle after calving that are mentioned in this video, please consult a Vet before treating. You can most definitely cause more harm than good if you treat incorrectly.
Once you understand the problem at hand and feel confident treating it, these items will likely save you a vet visit and possibly save your cow's (and maybe calf's) life as well.
Being a farmer is not for the weak of heart.
I hope you never have to use any of the items listed here. But unfortunately if you farm for long, you will likely need something I mentioned.
