What you don’t know is the older gentleman in the middle with gray hair , Bill. Just a local Michigan player. Played in big bands locally but a mathematician as a profession. He had been recently been diagnosed with terminal cancer. Jens Lindeman brought him up in stage to hang with the guys. Yes he’s not the big booming pro but I think he did a superb job, had the time of his life. He passed away about a year later.
I think it’s a young Adam Rapa, he’s really come into his own in the past 3-4 years for me, truly someone to keep an eye on: his prowess in both classical and jazz playing is remarkable!
I watched this live! After, I couldn't touch my trumpet for about two weeks. How I wished I'm a tenth this proficient! I've not even started! I played in some ensembles at the conference though.
Oh my. I've met Rex Richardson and Jens Lindemann, they both play in the Brass Band of Battle Creek which has a youth band that I play in. AND THEY'VE PLAYED WITH ARTURO SANDOVAL!
#1 Arturo Sandoval and #2 Allen Vizzutti of the best trumpet players in the world in one seesion😍. The man next to Arturo played very melodic, i liked that. The high notes of the others and Adams tonguing are pretty dope too. But in the end Arturo had the best sound of them and good playing without playing high his whole Solo but his double/triple notes were pretty awesome(and keep in mind that he is not the youngest one anymore). Allen is just the embodiment of raw technique. It seems to be so easy to him. How is that possible. And he was holding back for sure. He could have done something far crazier but he knows when to do it
I'd say if we are picking "winners", then we should go with Walter White or Arturo.Because they had the best combo of actual ideas and playing loud and high as mess.
This is horseshit. Would they have done this with Dizzy in the room? They shit all over what Dizzy stood for. Artistry, elegance, eloquence, and TASTE! I’m particularly surprised that AV and JL fell into this pissing contest. But I’m not surprised that AS was leading the charge. I think I’ll go listen to some Tom Harrell to hear some trumpet playing that has integrity.
