There was a very touching part of this performance. Yes - you had all the superstars up there. However, the white-haired gentleman was Bill Hart. Bill played with Tommy Dorsey back in the day. This was a special ITG for him, though. His son or nephew (I forget which) brought him to the concert and the convention as a surprise. You see, Bill was very ill with cancer. He had very little time left on this plane. When Jens Lindemann found out, he invited him to come up and perform with everyone...all the best in the business. At first Bill was a little shy and reluctant, but Jens convinced him to give it a shot. At first, the audience didn't realize what was happening, but the word began to filter through the crowd. As you saw, he more than held his own on that stage. He had his one last hurrah> By the end, there was not a dry eye in the house!
I love Mr. Sandoval! "They're stealing all my shit!" There's another video of him playing a cadenza for Night in Tunisia, and most of the other people here are quoting that video.
Bass players playing as high as trombonists. Trombone players playing as high as trumpeters. Trumpet players playing as high as a piccolo. What went wrong in their childwood?
