@@rafaelmenchacajr2824 they are not shutting down GF Now. Maybe it won't be available on the shield anymore, but it will be available on everything else.
*_As a lifetime Apple user, I know “Apple is Apple”, and they tend to do things their own way, for better, for worse… but imagine if they put an M2 chip inside an Apple TV and really focused on making it a AAA gaming machine. 😎_*
m2 is not capable of running games, its weaker than xbox ss and what games youre playing there? apple arcade; a wannabe gamepass? stop simping to company that doesn't care about you, use it, but don't stick with it.
@@Prodbytocile no. it took them years for usb c, they dont care about you. and even that is because eu forced them. wake up kid, world doesn't move like that
Imagine if Valve took the same SoC that's the Series X and PS5 and marketed a home console. Having Apple and Valve to also compete with Microsoft and Sony would be a fever dream
I think he used Xcode. I haven’t been able to sideload Provenance thru Xcode, but that’s one of the ways you can do that officially as Provenance recommends.
"I gotta say it's actually pretty crazy to be playing cyberpunk 2077 at 120 FPS on an Apple TV Now given we're streaming from my main gaming PC but I never thought I'd be doing this on an Apple device" They had us in the first half not gonna lie
Unfortunately you did not explain how to side load Altstore to the Apple TV, I have seen steps to load on iphone, but not Apple TV. Could you possibly list steps to install for Apple TV? Thanks
That’s what i just found, unless you pay a fee then it’s yearly. This video made it seem like you could just dl retro arch or provanence and play…but it’s a little more complicated than that sadly.
Yeah we need a guide on how to do the install/signing and all that. He didn’t explain and there’s nothing in the description. There’s info on the internet but I’d trust ETA’s guide more.
It definetly could. There's already Skyline on android that works pretty well, even on phones much less powerful than the iphone 13 lineup. Apple is just way too locked down for this
As a rough level, this A15 Device is about as fast as the Valve SteamDeck. So it should be able to do all the emulation from Atari to the PS Vita. It gets a bit tricky with the higher end systems like Xbox 360, PS3, and WiiU. Going even further above to the Switch wouldn't normally be possible to emulate, but since both systems share very similar code (ARM) it's likely to be able to emulate it half decent, especially with the way Skyline is progressing.
It's so nice to see how you and your content has evolved the last couple of years, everything from the voice over to the set up to the camera angles, you sound so much more confident and well informed, I hope next year will be just as improving :)
Nvidia isn't removing GeForce now, they are removing Gamestream which is the backend (software that runs on your desktop) for in home streaming with something like moonlight. Gamestream is ending but an open source alternative called Sunshine is up to par now. I've switched over from Gamestream to Sunshine full time rather than waiting for Gamestream to suddenly disappear without a solution. Reeeaaally wish you'd test moonlight on all the devices you review. Information on how well Moonlight works on various devices is hard to come by and given how many devices you go through it would really help. You even had it installed 😭
That would be nice. I've been surprised by how much moonlight latency varies on different devices. On steamdeck and shield tv it blew me away but on my fire hd 10 it's close but definitely worse. Is sunshine really up to par with moonlight now?
@@jjbeast102699 sunshine doesn't replace moonlight. You'd still use moonlight on your client devices. The big difference is decoding time for the stream. For 4k streams Steam Deck decodes a frame in 0.5ms. Shield does it in 2ms. My nuc does it in 1ms. Fire TV 4k max does it in 7ms. My phone does it in 10ms. My Chromecast does it in 12ms. And so on. That's the difference you're feeling and unfortunately it's largely a function of the device hardware. Moonlight can't improve on it. You just need to pick the best device for your own needs.
I’ve discovered ppsspp can be ran on the device. I have the first gen 4k Apple TV and it runs gta vcs at 30fps on 8x res scaling. Some bugs but very Impressive
Can you redo the iPad Pro M2 now that it supports Screen Sharing? Would love to see how games like Genshin Impact do when outputting on a monitor or TV screen.
Really glad to see you checking out this device. i picked up one of these recently as well and the power it has is surprising. I have also been trying to find dolphin. Seems like it would be the most powerful emulation console out there if Apple would open up the software. Fingers crossed that happens due to the new EU laws.
@@imnotindanger and yet (since the original comment I was answering to was about being the most powerful emulation machine) it is still the most powerful emulation console between those two platforms since Apple, being Apple, has the software closed tight
@@smeyichou3514 PC does that too, hell there's a working (partly working but still, PS4 emulator there), the whole point of the original comment was about those tv boxes and no tv box beats the Nvidia shield for that, still
Huh, I never considered it until now-but I often sit on my couch (in front of my TV with Apple TV) playing Steam Deck, never even considering steaming. I had thought of streaming my desktop to an iPad Pro for easier access, but never actually gaming on the TV. While my 65” 4K screen wouldn’t favor the AAA games experience, but for streaming emulation through Steam Link it’d be perfect. Thanks for the idea!
Personally, its worth getting a long hdmi if you have a dock. But loading the steam deck with a bunch roms and connect a few controllers, playing classic games with friends feels better than ever.
We need an M1 version of the Apple TV to enter Emu nirvana. I can play switch, psp, ps2, and other high end systems on my Mac Studio but being able to play them on my 77" OLED on my couch would be a dream.
Good evening. Please, on AppleTv 4K 3 Gen, is it possible to install via App Store or some emulator, the game Coin Master? Thank you very much! I'm sorry for my English.
I 100% think they're going to introduce some bullshit that'll allow them to get out of this. An iron grip on what the user is allowed to do is Apple's whole brand.
I believe that some new EU laws will force Apple to be more tolerant to side loading on at least phones and stuff. I wonder if this will translate to the TV or how it will translate at all. Hopefully it works out for emulation!
The Apple TV is awesome. I’ve been happily using the same Apple TV HD since 2015 on my 2010 Samsung 1080p LED. I have no complaints. I can watch all my movies and TV shows and it gets regular updates. Eventually when the TV gives out I’ll make the switch to 4K or whatever is top tier level at the time. 😂
Same here It’s not the cheapest thing ever but it’s been lasting 7 years now which makes it good value for me And it’s still getting the latest updates
Only thing I can't stand about all these newer devices 20-30 years from now they're not going to work at all they're not even going to be worth collecting or keeping or even showing your children what they did how they worked like how my dad can show me the Nintendo you know what I mean my dad can bring Tech from his generation and show me and I'll still work fine to this day but if I do the same with my children none of my s*** is going to work it only works for a couple years they shut it down you pay thousands of dollars for it and it's over then it's up to the hacking Community to take them over
@ETA Prime, If you have an iPhone, give airplay a go, you can play your mobile games directly on the big screen and if your on Wifi 6 there is no lag that I can detect, its far better than the Android equivalent.
If I remember correctly, the EU passed a bill where Apple is forced to allow sideloading in the future. Hopefully Apple brings sideloading to everyone and not just the EU.
From your experience and what you see in the "emulation community", is the tvOS user base substantial enough to support people spending time to create and maintain emulators for it? You seem to think it's powerful enough, it's odd that we don't see those other emulators already created...
Great video! Just bought this same Apple TV. Good to know about the emulation. Loving it all so far especially with all the benefits from then Apple One service!
Can you do a quick vid on how you got RetroArch running please? I tried but nothing loaded because I think the OOTB settings had the cores in the wrong location but I could be wrong.
@ETAPRIME quería consultarte si crees que haya un rendimiento similar en el apple TV 4k 2021, soy consiente de que el A15 biónica es más potente que el A12 bionic, pero me gustaría saber tu opinión al respecto, desde ya muchas gracias!
GeForce Now isn't going anywhere, it's GameStream - their version of Steam's in-home streaming - that they're mothballing. (One reviewer mentioned the shutdown in a news segment last week, and although he got the name right, the service he described as going away was GeForce Now's cloud gaming. Kinda shows how poor a job Nvidia has done with promoting that service.)
Thanks for the video. Hope you have a great new year. For the money and lack of psp and game cube emulation you may as well get an rp3 plus. I have a Steam deck so no need for this. If it had more io and not such a locked down system it could have been good to use in son's room where he has original game cube /PS2 and 3 Xbox one consoles. Maybe a mini pc is the way to go
@@ETAPRIME Europe may make it happen ... At least it's easier now. I've been running Retroarch on my iPad for a while. I used to sign it in Xcode and transfer it over from my Mac every 7 days.
@@DoctorBadvibes I think the deadline for that in ~1 year and apple plans to comply (since all efforts to block it have failed). So it's seems less like if but when.
@@ETAPRIME Can u help me. I watch your "install Google play" vid from 3years ago and i have playstore on the tablet i have. But i dont have play protect certification
Holy crap! I somehow missed that you could do this! This is... so exciting. BG3 on the big screen here I come lol I actually have the OG steam link and loved it but it didn't age well.
This is superb! Nvidia Shield will lose its ability to gaming from PC with steam. Unfortunately I don't have any Apple device but thanks for the review!
I enjoy Apple Arcade on my Apple TV. Fantasian is fantastic. The cool thing is if you use a DualSense you’ll be able to actually customize the controller altogether. You can set up a profile, give each INDIVIDUAL game a specific color on the LED, the buttons I believe as well can be customized. You can do more with the dualsense on Apple TV than you currently can on the ps5. The only thing missing is the headphone jack actually being usable on it.
I had no idea you could do this w Apple TV!Im super excited to get one now and two x box remotes! It will be fun to play the games I grew up on w the kids in the living room!
Sunshine works great on the pc host I've switched since hearing Nvidia will be shutting down geforce streaming. You can run the service that will always be up on the hosts boot!!
8:40 How did you add the separate Tabs for: Game Boy, SNES etc. On the left bottom menu? I create ROM folder and each time I have to go to ROM folder to select the game I wish to launch.
Nah Apple will never let you side load stuff... The reason the Apple Tv is so cheap and Ad free yet faster than a shield is that they are banking on using the box to sell Apple service... Letting you side load whatever apps you wanted would hinder that idea.... Never gonna happen.....
i have this subscription of apple tv and im using it on windows pc but the resolution is shitty i tried changeing settings and for 4k but even after downloading its shit plz help me out any one
The European union might enforce a law where Apple has to allow 3rd-party app stores and sideloading, so if it goes into effect, you could have the capability to do so.
I use my Apple TV to mirror my phone on some stuff. Recently I have been playing lunar silver star touch with its new update that offers ps4 controller support and a bunch of options for visuals like Saturn or psx style as well as some new audio options. I know it's not the same but it's commendable to see a dev team still updating a ten year old release
I have a question: If you have steam loaded on your linux machine and some of the games that you have in the library are windows only, are you able to stream those games over said PC to the Apple TV or is that a no go?? TLDR: Will it stream your whole library over a linux box?
yes it will. steam link supports streaming from any steam client to any steam link client (which is built in on apple tv as well as regular desktop steam. even on linux and hence steam deck)
