i think one of the most exciting thing about IU is that she is an adventurer in music. She did many genres (ballad, pop, jazz, and more), so its very exciting whenever she drops a new single or album. Another thing is her vocal...her actual live vocal is at the same quality, at times even better than her studio ver. Thus many fans of her treasures her live performances.

IU is now considered by Rolling Stone Magazine as the 139th best singer of all time. So much to select from in her discography, but would recommend “My Sea” Golden Hour concert live clip or studio version live clip of “Love Poem”

There is so much you have yet to learn about this amazing talent. As you read she debuted in 2008 at the age of 15. The song she debuted with, while a good choice to show off her vocal talent, did not go over well with kpop fans, as the subject matter was about the end of a relationship and at that time was kpop from female singers was more bubble gum and sweet. They produced a MV but held it back because of how the song was received. Her agency then made the decision to take her down the more traditional style of young female k pop songs and dressed her accordingly. This has become known as her cutesy phase and lasted more or less until 2013 when IU took over control of her music and started to write, compose and produce an increasing number of her songs. In 2014 she went to the US for 1st time to the K Pop convention in LA. Her music had matured and expanded to cover over styles and genres. The New York Times reporting on the Convention stated the IU was showing the way forward for K pop. Her english wasn't very good at that time and she commented in an interview back in Korea that she found the language barrier to be very frustrating as she loves to interact with her fans. She stated that she would learn english before returning and immediately hired an English teacher. IU has had more #1 hits on the Korean and Asian charts than any other soloist or group. Her songs have been on the charts longer in Korea than anyone else by a factor of 2. In 2018 the New York times did an article on the influence of music on popular culture and listed the top 25 artist with the most influence, IU was listed #9. Then in the January 2023 issue of Rolling Stone Magazine they released an updated date to their 200 Greatest Singers of All Time and IU became the 1st Korean to make the list at #135 placing her in rarefied air. I discovered IU through her acting. I stumbled upon a k drama called My Mister. I was getting more and more into Kdrama's at the time. She grabbed my attention from the start, her acting performance was haunting to me so much that I actually worried about her in between episodes. That is when I started to do a little research on her and found out that her primary talent was singing. I knew nothing of Kpop at the time and was a little afraid to listen to her music because I didn't want to not like it. But after finally taking the plunge I haven't looked back. Her has the voice of and angel that is matched by her very being. She became the 1st Korean female singer to headline a Concert at the Seoul Olympic stadium this past September 17th and 18th. Her 1st concert since 2019 due to the pandemic. 90,000 tickets sold out in 30 minutes with a staggering 450,000 still waiting in the queue. She is listed as the 4th wealthiest female in Korea with an estimated net worth of $50 million dollars. She has been the lead to 2 commercial films over the past year one of which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in Feb of 22. She is currently shooting her 7th k drama (the 2nd that has been commissioned by Netflix). These are some of the things about IU but barely starts to even cover who she is, where she came from or the tragedies and hardships she has had to endure. I hope you continue on the journey on IU discovery. It is well worth it .

I too hear an ABBA sound in there. If people like Pop music they would probably enjoy this. Her voice is great for this genre.

Yes, I think you're pretty close to the mark with your comment about this sounding like a cross between ABBA and Kylie Minogue .. I see where you're coming from, and can hear bits of both in this .. But I don't think the song is quite strong or interesting enough for my tastes .. It's not bad though.
