I hope that you can make a follow-up video explaining when these solutions are supposed to be used as it is still not as clear to me being a student nurse. Tonicity is in comparison with the intracellular fluid so isotonic doesn't mean that the number of water molecules and solute molecules is the same. It means the RATIO of water to solute is the same as the ratio of water to solute inside a cell.
@MagicinNursingTeam
@MagicinNursingTeam 4 года назад
You are right, if we talk about tonicity, we talk about the ratio of solute and water. We did mention that for lecture purposes, we are going to put in numbers to represent isotonic properties; and that includes the absence of fluid shifts because of “equal” tonicity in the intracellular and extracellular. Hope that clarifies it 🙏

Hi kuya, just curious: so if you have a dehydrated pt coming into the ER (maybe dehydration is the main finding), would you use a hypotonic solution for the patient as their IV fluid? (I’m sorry if this question doesn’t make sense, I’m a new nursing student but we haven’t studied IV fluids at all yet. I was just curious when I was watching your videos because I wanted to get a head start/idea!) hopefully I am asking the question correctly >_
@MagicinNursingTeam
@MagicinNursingTeam 3 года назад
Hi Rosie! So no, usually we don’t give hypotonic solution for mild dehydration. Isotonic solution lng talaga until it resolves. Ung mga hypotonic solution is reserved for severe cellular dehydration wherein we really need to rehydrate a person’s cells or if there is severe hypernatremia. Hope this helps! Message ka lang 🙏

sir i have a question that as we know that the blood flow in the arteries with a pressure of 102[systolic] and 60[diastolic] then when we use sphygmomanometer why do we consider 120 as systolic and 60 as diastolic pressure plz answer
@LearnNursingEasy
@LearnNursingEasy 3 года назад
We are tieing the cuff in arm and not taking pressure directly on the arteries Due to muscles in between the pressure exerted on the arteries to recoil is little high
