Drop/Drip rate tells you how many drops you need to see per minute in order to have the IV gravity infusion set running at the correct rate. Drop rate is variable, meaning that it changes depending on the prescribed volume and time.
Drop/Drip factor refers to how many drops you need to fall into the drop chamber before 1ml of a fluid is administered. Unlike Drop rate, Drop factor is not variable. Drop Factor is constant, and stays the same regardless of the prescribed volume and time.
