The security of the technique and the great energy make Ivo Pogorelić one of the greatest artists of our time.

partly because, he sounds and plays like no one else, and also, he's playing is ......brilliant - he brings something fresh, and intricate to the music he plays .....a rare gift

jim kost "Probing"...great word to describe Pogo, here & in his Brahms Intermezzi. Horowitz, too, and Gould (his Brahms) were "probing" as well. Richter was a technical stormy wonder but so far as I know he only "probed" those first few minutes of Rach 2 Concerto....a rendition that still haunts me even after decades

A superb performance. Pogorelich is a total original. He brings out the darker undercurrents in these preludes better than anyone I can think of. An unsettling dark performance not for people who like their Chopin to correspond to their comfort zone.

Personally I don't think Chopin himself aimed for anyone's comfort zone. But no one managed to go beyond it with such finesse and appeal.

You forget the word "avatar". Avatars are those celestial beings who appear or manifest to humanity to bring forth a new message of great spiritual value and importance. Such is Pogorelich a musical avatar of our age and civilization. Some Avatars are Cosmic, who only come close to humanity once or twice in the life and duration of our planet. They can ONLY come as close as the Mental Sphere / PLANE, of our planet and require advanced humans like Jesus The Christ, to step down their Message for we humans to receive. This is simply one simple explanation of the concept of Avatar. I would suggest that Pogorelich is a musical artist avatar who presents deeper and more profound interpretations of classical compositions than has heretofore been presented for human consumption. The next great Cosmic Avatar of Synthesis has been Prophecied to come close to our humanity hundreds, if not some thousands of years, into the future. A great messiah human will receive HIS COSMIC AVATAR MESSAGE OF THE UNITY, THE ONENESS OF HUMANITY. There are also lesser Avatars, such as Solar, Planetary and of course, human avatars. Take heed, for the Return of THE CHRIST will require much preparation of our humanity, to receive HIS MESSAGE OF REDEMTION AND SALVATION.

Even in this horrible recording with a pathetically sub-par piano, the genius of Pogorelich shines through. The greatest pianist of his generation by far. He will go down in history with the greats of the keyboard.

A super-brilliant technique, a probing intellect and an imagination so overpoweringly vivid it often borders on the grotesque mar this extraordinary performance because in general the "fast" preludes are TOO fast, while the "slow" ones become ponderous to the point of tediousness. Also highly exaggerated dynamics -- mostly on the FORTE end of the scale -- makes many of these gems sound bombastic and overblown instead of passionate and powerful. While never boring, this reading lacks the ELEGANCE endemic to Chopin's character and style. In attempting to demonstrate the composer's wild side, much of this comes off sounding downright SAVAGE.

Assez d'accord. Sans doute parce que je l'ai trop dans l'oreille, je préfère toujours la version du jeune Pollini, suffisamment "sauvage", chantante, et nettement plus élégante

I've never heard such banging in my life! The prelude in g-sharp minor, in particular, was a travesty!
@hyramesshiramess1035
@hyramesshiramess1035 9 лет назад
+karlakor A trifle "bottom heavy," "blocky" and unvoiced to be sure, but he achieved a true PRESTO unlike most who settle for a timid allegro-moderato at best. Have you ever tried to play the G#-Minor? It is one of the most difficult pieces in the literature -- one a level with the Etudes Opus 10,#2, #7, and Opus 25, #6 -- also in G#-Minor. On the opposite end of the scale would be Livia Rev who plays the Preludes with great delicacy and attention to detail, but little fire, and at very modest tempi. I frankly can enjoy BOTH approaches. The Preludes are such magnificent little gems, they can withstand almost any treatment, except INEPTITUDE, and still stand up very well for themselves. If all pianists played alike, there would be no point to every going to concerts or lisetening to new recordings, would there? ;-) That said, I will admit to you there is MUCH I don't like about this performance.

I'd forgotten that Pogorelich's playing could be so ugly this early in his career. So much banging and whacking here; just awful. At this point, though, he could still play brilliantly, sometimes. His 1990 Carnegie Hall recital was thrilling and memorable.

It’s the quality of the recording and the positioning of the microphone in an echoing environment. You can hear these same preludes with the right sound m his official recording.
