In today's episode, I'm reviewing a product that isn't exclusive to the martial arts. It's a knee crutch that aids in walking if you have a lower leg injury. I used this knee crutch for a solid 6 weeks when I had my achilles surgery, and I wanted to cover this in a review and to help spread the word about this simple, yet, amazing device.

I’m currently suffering from an Achilles tendon rupture, I’m on week 5 , and got this about 3 and a half weeks into my recovery and it has been a game changer and definitely given me a kinda normal life again during recovery . It’s a must have if you’re to active to sit around around crutches .

It's a total life changer. It really made the difference of me keeping my job and actually functioning in life vs sitting idle for 3 months

Art of One: you're a natural in front of camera, what a great review! I bought an iWalk 2.0 a week before surgery on my Achilles tendon and like you, I'm glad I did. It is definitely a game changer. And, like you, I found that it works great in conjunction with crutches if you want to get somewhere faster. My only problem is not the fault of the iWalk, at least I don't think so, but I find no matter how I try, I am putting more pressure than necessary on my good foot and I have to rest my good foot if I wear the device for more than ten minutes. I could not last as long as you wearing it. However, I give it 9/10 because it's hands free and is a lot less strain than crutches. You can do so much more with an iWalk. Don't throw the crutches away, though. Use them with the iWalk when you need to.

It really was an absolute game changer! I did not experience that foot pain like you described...is it possible it wasn't adjusted to quite the right height for you? The main struggle I had was not being able to sit down with it without removing it, but strapping it on and off was such a quick process it wasn't that inconvenient. I would recommend this any to day anyone because I was able to be about 90% functional over the 3 months I was recovering.

I've tried adjusting it up and down in increments but not much difference. I'm thinking of sending the makers a video of myself walking and ask them what I'm doing wrong!

Had my cast put on Monday. Hated the crutches, couldn't cook or stand for long because of weakness in my hands and arms. Ordered a scooter. Doesn't come until a week or more after my cast being put on. I found this, ordered it and got it next day! I've had it 24 hours now and am in love! ❤ I did add padding by cutting a piece of yoga mat to fit. Helps a lot. I'm definitely more steady on the Iwalk than on standard crutches.

I'm sorry that you, as I have, learned about things in life I never wanted to learn about. "Wish I didn't know now what I didn't know then." Regardless, you've turned it into a gift to help others! And I agree, crutches are an accident waiting to happen.

Tried it for about 20 minutes, making adjustments, using my crutch, holding edge of counter... too much pressure on my knee, it is bone on bone arthritis... aggravated my lower back issues too😭❤️ but it sure relieved my shoulders, wrists and neck! 🙄❤️
@ArtofOneDojo
@ArtofOneDojo 2 года назад
@@nanabella151 Oh you have knee issues too? Ok that may take some adjustment or add a challenge as you have to put weight on your knee. Can you add something more to pad it, would that help your knee pain? You shouldn't have any back pain with it though, that could be an adjustment issue perhaps?
@williamw1332

Wow Dan. I could have used that myself a few times in the past. Looks like it could use a shock for a spring effect (wonder if that would help usability). Hopefully we will never need to use the cursed thing (again in your case), but if needed it definitely looks like a mobility game changer while healing/recovering. Great video on an interesting and not well known product! 😊👍
@ArtofOneDojo
@ArtofOneDojo 5 лет назад
That's an interesting suggestion, but to be honest that wasn't something I noticed being an issue. It wasn't jarring at all to use and I didn't even think of a shock absorption. After using it for so long, the rigid feel because comfortable, like...supportive. But I am really curious to know what it would feel like with a spring system. It really did make all the difference. For those 6 weeks I was able to be 90% as active as normal.

Good morning Sensei Dan how are you? You should definitely do the assembly video for this product, given that as you said, when acquired it was confusing with the assembly instructions that were provided. I have never seen this device, until I came across your first video with it. In terms of padding, they perhaps should have put a thicker sponge or an interchangeable pad or two. Interesting to see that you filmed footage of going up and down the stairs with it! At least people could see how it functions practicality wise. It is good to see that you are back to full health. Osu! 👍 ☺ ✌
@ArtofOneDojo
@ArtofOneDojo 5 лет назад
That's exactly what I was thinking in terms of padding, an interchangeable pad would have been great to have. It's a good pad that it has, but you do give it a bit of abuse when you're on it.

great review! One thought though... since the stilt straight in line with your thigh.. with a high enough chair, I bet one could sit with it if the silt rested on some equally heightened chair.. now if that'd be comfortable, idk
@ArtofOneDojo
@ArtofOneDojo Год назад
Interesting idea, I did not try that. I did find though that in any sitting position it was uncomfortable to have the stilt hanging off the knee, however trying it with something of equal height...that would have been a good idea to try, I didn't think of it.

I’m 67 had ankle surgery. I still have to work so I got the knee scooter (had to wait 19 days between ankle break & surgery so had to start from scratch). I also ordered the iwalk3.0 but I’m 6 days out from surgery and haven’t tried the iwalk yet. My husband put it together but my question is this: I’m not very strong and the iwalk feels heavy. You’re obviously athletic but I’m the opposite. Will I be able to lift it with my weakened leg? Thanks!
@ArtofOneDojo
@ArtofOneDojo 2 года назад
I would try to walk around the house for a bit to test it out first. It's not particularly heavy and you only need to lift it enough to take a step. As long as you can kneel comfortably on it you should be ok to use it.

Renaissance Man it’s dangerous sinse your leg is strapped in if you fall wrong can easily make the injury way worse
@abbey428
@abbey428 3 года назад
@@richardsparks1086 I think you are less likely to fall using this device vs. standard crutches. They say you shouldn't use it if you can't fluidly navigate stairs. I can't, but can still use this. Actually the method I normally use to go down stairs is how you have to with this device. I adapted well despite my limitations. I'm frankly more frightened of crutches because of hand and arm weakness. Might not be everyone's solution, but it works for some.

If the floor is flat, how about using a wheeled chair/stool to move around?
@ArtofOneDojo
@ArtofOneDojo 3 года назад
Fair suggestion but those are more cumbersome than using the crutch. You still need your hands to steer and if you are not on flat ground you'd have to find a way to carry or transport it. With this knee crutch you can just walk around hands free, use stairs, and still function at about 90% of your day.

@ArtofOneDojo
@ArtofOneDojo 4 года назад
Oh yeah that's definitely a concern, you always have to be careful with wet floors or ground. However, I find the traction on this crutch to be MUCH better than crutches. I was on the crutches after my Achilles surgery and went indoors after the rain and my crutch slipped out and I totally caught my body weight on my bad foot. That hurt SOOO MUCH I sword I did damage. Thankfully I did not. It happened again later, I was in a parking lot and my crutch hit a wet spot on a painted parking line and same thing, the crutch flew out but this time I was wearing the knee crutch at the same time and it caught me. (I used regular crutches with the knee crutch if I needed to cover distance, as good as the iWalk Free is, it's pretty bad for going long distances, it will take you forever. It's more of a function around your immediate area sort of thing.)

Are you able to kneel on it? This works great for lower leg injuries, if you aren't able to kneel on it then you might not be able to use this. But if you are, I recommend this all the way. I'd recommend this over the wheelie scooter for almost any reason.

I just got back into judo.. it’s almost like when I straighten it out it will feel like it’s on fire. It hurt for like a week afterwards... I just got a brace I’m going to try tonight.. I would like to be able to randori/roll for BJJ also. I initially heard it falling down a hill in Italy. My leg actually gave out and I fell down! I can run on a treadmill just fine.. so I don’t know.. extremely frustrating bro!
