25:25 It didn't come up but Lier's "spells can't be countered" means you don't need to pay Ward costs, including the discard on the trespasser.

You're a true legend. Not everyone can use a token and Lier to convoke a counter, sacrifice the token to double it, and bounce the Lier to make the counter work. The way you play this game makes me love it more and more.

He is an amazing player, but that play didn't make much sense to me, having another Lier in hand. He was dead on board against any 3 mana or below hasty creature against a Samut deck

iirc correctly the entire plane was made to explain why Segovian Leviathan is only a 3/3. I'm not sure the source of that though, I just heard it from some fellow magic players.

@@nop2774 On the original card art you can see that the leviathan which looks like a regular fish is 10 times bigger than what looks like a whale. So either the leviathan is incredibly large or everything is just super tiny on that plane and it's the later apparently

To put that in a perspectice. Segovian Angel is 1/1. Normally, MtG Angels' size are around 4/4 (based on Serra Angel, or Angel tokens). So using a proper scale, Segovian Leviathan and Caetus size is equivalent to 12/12. Quite massive IMO

It can be hard to gain life in Izzet, so swiftwater cliffs can be a nice include to keep your life total a little higher against aggro.

Making both colors is sometimes relevant and shuffling can be undesirable if you put cards on the bottom.

Good point. The iconoclast tokens also are colorless, so having the colored sources for convoke is very relevant.

Yes and no. It’s a great payoff for noncreature spells but we’re looking for noncreature payoffs for Convoke. There’s no extra synergy between Seedshark and Invasion of Segovia, the latter being the card I wanted to build around.

Depends if it was cleaved or not. Id not you lose after the first extra turn, so not the best outcome.

At 10:30, you could've held Play with Fire for their turn because Chandra copies once each turn. Could've killed both Tycoon plus Iconoclast.

Briefly, yes. Could work well with more Convoke cards, although playing too many spells with Convoke defeats the purpose of transforming Invasion of Segovia. It’s a tricky balance which is why I spent so much time on this idea.

I find it funny how many people dissed out this Battle because well, its Segovia so everything is gonna by itty bitty in body stats, then it later got goated. I think all battles turned out overpowered to be fair, its just too much value on dropping a permanent that has ETB, is a divertion for oponent since it has to defend it and gets you even more value once you get it to transform.

Man, I played against this deck today, the guy had 2 Iconoclast out and got to cast his whole deck, leaving only 2 cards on top and like 100 tokens. It was all or nothing and I casted a Sunfall. Biggest ragequit I've seen on MTG Arena. I even thought he was going to have a counter or something😅

I hope sunfall gets banned. It's probably the most powerful spell in the game and saves bad players. No spell in the game should wipe out 20 turns of development and still leave the caster with a wicked creature.

@@SegaPhoenixSunfall works against agro decks. Not so much against mid-range and it doesnt work at all against control decks. The extra creature can be easily removed with a destroy artifact or creature spell. Its just about playing around it😅

I love the content, but I want to pick on calling the deck “Izzet Invasion” when EVERY BATTLE has “invasion” in the name. “Izzet krakens”, maybe? “Segovia spells”?
