He’s making a damn good case. His closest thing to a response to the beef (not 7 min, I don’t even count 7 min because his heart clearly wasn’t in it) was by far the best lyrically of any of the songs dropped in the beef in my opinion. He may not have some of the intensity of Kendrick, or the catchiness of Drake but just listening to the rapping he impresses me the most at this stage in their careers. Based on watch the party die, Kendrick would prefer more rappers like J. Cole. He shouted out two Christian conscious rappers and I believe he is genuinely tired of so many artists glorifying drugs and having no real message. We've let hip hop become mostly party music. Charts shouldn't be the all-end factor of what albums and artists are considered goats. Plenty of great records that are regarded as classic that didn't sell well (at least when they came out). Illmatic for example sold poorly be today's standards and now most sane greatest of all time rap list have it as a goated album. There is still room for party/club music, not saying that at all. Jay-Z went that route while not losing his lyrical abilities.
