It's so amazing to see how the torch is passed in the rap game. Rakim started off idolizing the Sugar Hill Gang and other early hip hop acts, then Nas idolized Rakim, and now J. Cole idolizes Nas. It's beautiful.
Eric Banks and I idolize j cole and the before mentioned lol I feel like I could write raps up to par with the greats but I ain't a rapper and don't have passion to do it
It seems J. Cole is saying that Nas was actually trying to say 'he didn't have to put out such a commercialised track, he's so good he didn't need to'. That's what the Nas saying "he is the one, doesn't he know that?" comment sounded like.
Cies The White okay I'll tell you this, Cole has got different vibe, he isn't just "rapper" he is musician maybe he hasn't got skills and abilities like Kendrick got, but you can see in his music how honest he is,as I know also he often visits jails and helps young talented artists. he put J.I.D in rap game and he is going to do more, I don't judge this two by only their music I judge them by their whole character. I don't say that Kendrick is fake or shit something like this but I really didn't like his dependence about other artists in nowadays music. He dissed Drake for having ghostwriter and then he made feat with Rich The Kid(I'm don't hate him but his whole creative work is trash) also he dissed some of my favourite artists in control for just sales,I don't like how he tries to get viral and shortly there are many things which I don't like and it's hard to explain.it's just my point of view and I don't offend anyone who disagrees me.both got great background and they don't deserve to be underrated or underappreciated
Eric White Yeah I respect that man, I'm just saying it's far from "the greatest rap I have ever heard" for me. Besides that, I think there's way too many underrated emcee's who could only dream to be in touch with Nas on the level that Cole is. So I don't think him writing a song playing the victim is the right way to go on this issue. It's still a decent track tho
Why people suddenly dissing Nas. Nas was saying hes the one and he shouldnt sellout. Nas knows this best, he put out I Am... And Nastradamus. Nas is trying to stop J.Cole going down the same road. Check Nas remic. He says the radio hit was necessary but withoit him dissing that track Cole would have gone a different road. You can tell hes matured
+Morgan Kellman I agree. Or like a motion-picture comic-strip. You know those comics that get adapted to be portrayed on TV...? That's what I'm seeing. A comic-book story about a young kid, from a small city, who goes to the Mecca to establish a career in Rap, just to come back and light the whole city up. I'm wilin', I know... But I agree that his story needs to be told, 'cause its truly inspiring.
"Dick Riding?" Because he's real about his thoughts? That's what hip hop is. I'm sure you had idols growing up2. We all did. Anyone that says otherwise is lying.
Am I the only one who actually likes Work Out as well as everything else J. Cole has created! Born Sinner is one of the best albums of my lifetime, but Work Out was one of the best J Cole songs for me on his previous album as well as Lights Please! I didnt understand why they didn't like it :/
KCAssassin98 Most of J Cole's songs aren't about the typical stuff. Yeah, he may reference it once or twice, but his songs definitely have a bigger meaning than what most people hear.
J Cole, you inspire a lot of us bro. keep pushing.. I heard this song after i have let someone really important in my live down and I was like, 'I can relate'
I think you guys misunderstand Let Nas Down. I admittedly thought the same as you guys from the first listen through, but if you actually listen to the lyrics, he goes from lamenting to defending his choice as the right one regardless of what guys like Nas had to say. "This is for the nigga that said that Hip Hop was dead, I went to hell to resurrect it how could you fail to respect it" "Apologies to OG's for sacrificin' my art, But I'm here for a greater purpose, I knew right from the start"
J cole is another prolific artist that I love, his pure honesty in his songs that always touches base with society and the everyday struggles that we face on day to day is just sensational. He's awareness of himself and the environments around him and always reflects that in his songs are the reason why I started listening to him from the beginning. His evolution over the years have been incredible, and the older he gets the better he gets. He sheds light to the very problems that are often swept under the rug, definitely one of the best lyricist ever. J cole fan for life. ❤
Amazing his growth from that time to nowadays where is at least top 3 rappers in the game at the moment selling out world tours. I enjoyed born sinners, but imo everything he did after that album was massively improved
Lupe, J. Cole and Kendrick are few of the people keeping the game alive. Lupes Food and Liquor 1&2 and The Cool are beautiful works of literature and lasers did dilute his image, however Lasers still is better than 95 percent of the other albums out today. Kendrick and J are up and coming legends
Nas was right. Workout was garbage. Glad it was a hit for J.Cole but that's not a song that showcases his true talent. it's crazy how fucked up rap is where you're rewarded for mediocre material over your quality material.
Work Out is a great song and J Cole is a brilliant lyricist so he can get away with making a "radio hit" from time to time. But honestly music is music, let my baby rock lol
there doin it cuz cole said he was gonna drop the album on the same day though he didn't it was still a challenge to a legend and yes his album is better
j cole is da shit. loved em ever since he put the mixtape, friday night lights out. this new album remind me of that. i never got into cole world cause it sounded like he sold out on that. glad he back on his real shit
Actually, if NAS himself put out an album like ILLMATIC in 2013, you'll get praise from the super duper rap heads, maybe, but it would not have the same impact either. Radio play and mainstream appeal highly matters if you are an artist on a major label. There is no way around it. BUT, there are plenty ways of playing the fence pretty well, to still stay true to yourself. Every record doesn't have to be this complex, underground sounding boom bap record, and vice-versa.
Honestly I don’t think he really explained anymore about that than what the song itself had already explained. But J. Cole is just that great of a storyteller 💯
Holy Grail: Let Down, Over-hyped. Yeezus: Cinematic Production, over obsessive use of egoism . Born Sinner: Safe, sounds cohesive, found his style. #factsonly
