Its like, when you first hear this album, that's all you're doing: Hearing it. Its like "Okay yeah, my nigga back." But if you actually LISTEN to this joint more and more, you start hearing stuff. For example January 28th "Can I make a million dollars off a rap tune?"// A Tale of 2 Citiez "What's the value of a thing?" "Last night, WE pulled up on a nigga at the light like..."//G.O.M.D "Lord will you tell me if I change? I wanna go back to Jermaine." "My nigga done went Hollywood." Lyrics like that, that are kind of hidden, give off a message that turns the entire track upside down for you. Its like every time I hear a song on this record, I learn something new. This man right here? A mastermind. I cant stress enough how even though people claim they love Jermaine, he's STILL the most slept on. And I'm not talking about celebrity status or anything, I'm talking about his material, his flow, his persona. It sickens me when people say their favorite song is "Wet Dreamz" or "Power Trip". Like get the fuck out. No doubt these are great songs, but people so caught up in mainstream hits, that their mind is too clouded to actually take the time out to LISTEN to the words. Society is so fucked up to the point where having puppies in their video is lame, but having 50 naked females, drugs, and booze in the background is dope. Fuck outta here.

She gets legitimately upset when her younger fans skip school to go to her shows. okay so I think personally the song is all about J. Coles rise to fame. When he begins the video he's a house slave and seen by the other slaves as almost a sell out. The other slaves symbolize his home town thinking that he was a sellout by going all "Hollywood" on them. The white people are supposed to be Hollywood I believe. In the song he says "Hands up, everybody run. Cole outside and he say he got a gun. Niggas like "man that's what everybody say". Go and pop the trunk and everybody dead" I think that this is kind of a metaphor for people sleeping on him. As the white guy treats him like a kid. When he tries and relate to the other slaves they ignore him because they think he's a sell out like his home town may have. When the white people are dancing in the kitchen this is where the line "I said to the window, to the wall My nigga ride when I call Got bitches all in my mind Fuck nigga blocking my shine I know the reason you feel the way I know just who you wan' be So everyday I thank the man upstairs That I ain't you and you ain't me" Is first heard. I believe that this is supposed to mean like mainstream rap and how everyone thinks that this is what the game is about. After this he begins to talk about changing and want to go back to Jermain. This is the part in the video where he begins to get the guns for the other slaves. He's trying to give his city the love that he's wanted to give them all along. Right after is also where the white girl comes in and helps him. In the song he begins to sing about how he never had love. I think that he was close to not accomplishing his goals if it hadn't been for his lady, similar to how she saves him in the video. The only part that gets kind of confusing is where he talks about love after. I'm not to sure if he's talking about the love he had for his city (slaves)or his woman (white girl). Next we here the window to the wall part again while the white people count there money. When the beat drops finally and there tearing the house apart is essentially him turning the game upside down. Unfortunately the treatment for this video was written before Cole made this song so the video concept wasn't made with this song in mind although I think they and you did a great job of making it line up. It was supposed to be used for his previous album Born Sinner. And the second verse is metaphorical but also literal as it actually pertains to his girlfriend and the rap game (according to Cole himself)

Words are language. I've had a fear of allowing certain words into my head. The main ones in this song. But.. Context. I feel and respect that it's not my word. But this message should be heard.. Which means I listen. Just listen. Feel the anger at how atrocious these acts were.. Admit.. Our white ancestors sucked. And the ones trying to keep it up suck worse. Just listen... Maybe understand the anger is proportional to the intentional decimation of ancient tribal families. It's a powerful word. It's not my word. And that's just how I feel... But this man just connected the word with the word love and made me take it in that context..
It seems to me, that this video is a metaphor for where Cole is in his life. He sees himself as a slave, but one who has more comforts than most. He doesn't receive the respect of his people for this, because they believe he sold out at their expense (that he is a puppet of the white man). Though what he comes to reveal later on, was that it is his elevated position that he will leverage as a means of freeing his people. He is sacrificing luxury, and everything he is in order to see his own free. I believe he uses music as his vessel to do this, and perhaps this gives us more insight as to why Cole is driven beyond belief. Why his music constantly reaches out to illuminate the dark path, kept hidden by the distractions of our world.
