I came here being a Kim Namjoon fan. He has a song ‘Monster’ on a mixtape that uses this beat. This beat goes amazingly hard and I can throw down to it all day. And the lyrics hit just as hard, brilliant. I can see how my guy found inspiration to share himself using this song. 💜

The Warm Up and Friday Night Lights are my favorite works of art from Cole to this date.(Love his other stuff too these just hit home to me in 2011, my freshmen year of college and my roommate put me on) Most people I talk to about him know nothing about these mixtapes and it saddens me.
you might like BTS, as their 3 rappers are big fans of J. Cole and are very knowledgeable about hiphop in general. One of their rappers RM samples this song for his song Monster on his first mixtape, he references "grown simba" in his lyrics. He also samples God's Gift by J. Cole for his mixtape song God Rap. The BTS song Born Singer is their own rendition of Born Sinner by J. Cole, they also sample the beat. And their song Hip Hop Lover is their homage to hiphop - in the lyrics, they reference a lot of their hiphop inspirations including a lot of old-school ones. So it's a song for more hardcore fans of hiphop, as you'd have to be knowledgeable about it to catch all their references. Friday Night Lights is also referenced in it. RM and Suga were well-known underground rappers prior to joining BTS, they are experienced battle rappers. Their 3rd rapper J-Hope was a trained and competitive hiphop dancer prior to BTS, so his hiphop knowledgeable came from dancing first.
