Many ARMYS like me were waiting for rock time, they have done many different genres so I was wondering if they will do this one. Probably older ARMYs are as happy as me, but I’m pretty sure younger ARMY are learning from this song. I love how Jhope’s screams are suppressed. His album is going to follow a storyline, probably you’re right and this is the first song where he says how thirsty he is, to continue showing us all his experimental sounds. Love your deep analysis Jim!

I'm one of them!! I was really manifesting that Jhope will release rock driven song and my army friends were ignoring that😂 Now I'm very happy that I'm right and got rock music which what I grew up with and still rock with, alongside bts🖤💜

I'm Army since one year ago, I don't know if am I baby army? ... anyway, before become an army I usually listening to rock and when I discovered songs like dyonisus or DNA Pedal version I wished they do things like this and now J hope really made me so happy. I'm so proud of him

I grew up on classic rock, alt rock, emo rock, and more rock, so as much as I love K-pop and its artists, any time a K-pop musician does something with rock it just scratches that itch inside of me, and I am over the moon. Even if the rest of the album isn't in this kind of genre, I'm just so happy that J-Hope dipped into the genre that defined my younger identity.

I don't feel it's creepy for me it feels more like J-hope liberation, taking a huge leap out of the box. Doing exactly what he chose to without having to adjust to 6 other members wishes. This is only him, right up in our faces. I love it.

WE ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT. And actually during their recent Festa Dinner, RM and Jhope himself said that his album has a story so all his songs are arranged in a chronological order. For me that means that him releasing "MORE" is an introduction to the Jhope that he has been hiding inside the box, because "MORE" is not even the title track of the album. The lyrics for me explains that the Jhope we're seeing is ready and very passionate to show the other side of himself (Jung Hoseok, not Jhope of BTS) to the world and spread his own music, not because of the popularity, the fame, the money etc. but because he lives and breathe music. He also mentioned in his latest Weverse post that he started making this album during the start of covid, so I think we're gonna get more songs with darker and eerie vibes....like Blue Side for example which he released last year, he already gave us a taste of the Jhope we're seeing now. I obviously love the usual cheery sunshine Hobi that we always knew, but this vibe and side of him is what I gravitate towards more so I'm really excited for the whole album.

The video, lyrics and jhope's choice of style is pretty explanatory. It's been brewing for awhile. When Bighit was just Bighit, it was basically the members, PD Bang and a small tight staff, a family. Once they reached a certain point and Bang chose to expand and Bighit became HYBE, this brought in new people, especially new suits. Their sound started to change, more poppy and mainstream. Although, this added to their success in terms of growth in audience (especially US market), it also took away from them, especially the members. They accepted it as a part of the journey and the school of life, but it started eating away at them individually, some more than others. "somebody's favourite song" is pretty telling. The office scene represents, the corporate side of the kpop industry and how controlling, draining it can be. They don't name names but that manager in the copy machine is symbolic of those at HYBE they've been locking horns with. But the members are not stupid. They understand who they've become. They have all the money in the world, but mostly they have global clout; they know they have a very important role. They know that no one can argue what they've done for not just themselves but for the company, country and the world as well. Furthermore, they also have a very strong and rare relationship with the founder. So this break was the solution; to step back and then regroup. These things are all inevitable because, as one grows, it involves other people and therefore other intentions. BTS and PD Bang are just smarter people with cooler heads. They are doing what other American Bands have failed to do. For 12 plus years, they hunkered down and believed in one another and not self. They didn't let the "self" get in the way; "I am worth more than this", "I wanna do my own thing" etc. But when the moment came, they let it be known that it was time for them to call the shots; they now had the clout to do so. By doing this with the group intact, they are not obliterating what they've built all this time but they continue to soar. At the same time, they get to do what every artist strives and thirsts to do, show more of who they are but in their own words and ways. We are merely the beneficiaries of that evolution. I am not Army; I do not believe in collective thinking and fear the dangers of it. Although I am very supportive of BTS and their endeavours, I am also very envious of them for I am not as smart as they are.
@studioskim3

This is by the most comprehensive and SENSIBLE explanation of what's going on. With your not-ARMY mindset, I think this makes sense. I think BTS and Bang PD became where they are because of hard work and trust, and HYBE came in and flipped it. J-hope is not just a member, but he is one of their leaders. RM is the official leader, but J-hope and Suga are the execs who support RM, and I think they're about to become the BULLETPROOF shield for the members. So excited for this new "chapter". Thanks for your input, because it makes sense. BTS will be next tier of artistry, and us ARMY will support them there.

the insinuation that hybe is this evil entity that came in & messed with bangtan's music & artistry or anything is frankly insulting. how many times does bangtan themselves, bang pd, & everyone else who knows how bighit's re-structuring & the ultimate creation of hybe actually worked, have to tell you guys that HYBE, OR WHOEVER RUNS IT, DOES NOT EFFECT BIGHIT MUSIC, THE LABEL, OR ITS DECISIONS IN THE SLIGHTEST for you to believe them? bang pd was extremely smart & showed incredible foresight when he made bighit private before he stepped down because it means that nobody can make any executive decisions for bighit music. also, that you think bangtan's supposedly 'sound started to change, (to) more poppy and maintream' is just... **sigh** it's one of those tired fucking narratives that i'm so sick of because it insinuates that bangtan has little to no control over the their music & the way it evolves, despite the fact that the members themselves have CONSTANTLY reiterated the amount of creative control they have over all aspects of their music. 'boy with luv', arguably one of THE most bubblegum pop bangtan tracks EVER, came out in april 2019 when hybe wasn't even a concept yet. bangtan's musical 'sound' can be classfied as nothing other than 'change'. they are literally a group commended & well-known for continuously reinventing themselves & changing their sound, so why is it that when their sound changed to what SOME people consider to be 'selling out' or 'catering to the mainstream' or whatever, that you have a problem with it? also, the fact that this stupid narrative also completely blows over the fact that between dynamite & butter, there is a whole-ass korean album that is literally bangtan's most member-involved & self-produced albums yet. but it's always forgotten about because it doesn't fit the 'bangtan sold out & started releasing only all-english pop music because they wanted success in the western industry & a hold on the us market' bullshit people like to spew so bad. one more notion in your comment that irks me is that you make it seem like bangtan wasn't 'calling the shots' in their own / solo careers before this ?? but that's literally the whole artistic creativity & freedom conversation again & it's just untrue that bangtan have had anything less than full control over the kind of music they make and release & how they choose to do it. that you don't call yourself army is honestly pretty telling of all these misconceptions, though, and therefore, i feel like you're not really at fault for thinking like this. it's just that when you're saying things like they're fact when they're not, you have a hand in perpetuating incorrect & harmful notions.

Never in my wildest dreams did I think we’d get grunge alt rock from BTS let alone Hobi.. even with the dark concept photos I didnt expect this sound! Needless to say I was shook sitting in my room in the dark at midnight lol Hobi absolutely killed this and I can’t wait to see what jack in the box holds! In the chorus Hobi is literally screaming MORE, but he sounds so far away and muffled. kind of like… he’s screaming out for help (or to himself) trapped inside the box 🤔 also cool little Easter egg (could be coincidence but to me it looks too clear to be coincidence) at 2:38 in your video you can see the lights on the office wall casting the BTS logo 😮

I LOVE that J-Hope is symbolically and creatively breaking out of the K-Pop box, leading the rest of members grow into their next chapter, as the jester/Jack-outta-the box. Did anyone else hear the voice at the very beginning whisper "Fight Club"? Great breakdown, Jim!💜

I'm so proud of Hobi and didn't expect this at all. I'm loving the beat of this song and I love the drums and guitars and this side of our sunshine is wrecking me badly. This is a different side of hobi I thought I'd never see also I love the MV aswell and I love how his voice sounds as well as how rocky this sounds and I'm also loving this néw look on him aswell and I love how he raps. Basically words can't explain how I'm feeling right now about this song besides being bias wrecked. Hobi has set the bar so damn high for me now, Bangtan chapter 2 is already killing me now. i loved this song so much!! im excited to see more of this side to him in the full album, it’s going to be insane! 💜 there was also some references in this song that I saw from twitter but i haven’t seen the full reaction yet so idk if you mentioned any of these 😆 kitkat in japanese is pronounced ‘kitsu katsu’ which means ‘being a winner’ so he means whatever he does he is always going to succeed also, notice how every time he wants to ‘shout’ in the chorus, it’s suppressed. that’s why it’s the ‘jack in the box’, all his feelings and emotions are held inside a box the man he trips is the boss of tired workers who are crushed by the weight of his expectations! jack makes the boss look like a fool, he is the jester mocking the king, he is our dissatisfaction at the status quo, he is our rage against the machine.

This song blew my mind but im not surprised- i love Jhope so much, he is oozing with talent and i totally relate to him, my ultimate bias. He has many different facets to himself and i love this song, rock with old school hip hop, just amazing. For his album, im with u, ill really enjoy a full rock album but i agree with you that we will see different sounds from Jhope, he can't be pigeonholed to one genre, and im so excited for his album. I would love to see some dance tracks because Hobi started as a dancer and he is passionate about it. I also would love to see a full vocal track, Hobi's singing voice is beautiful, he has such a rich tone when he hits the lower ley and can also hit a higher note as we've seen in the DNA demo track -- he is so talented, so are all the other members, 7 incredible artists who will blow our minds with solo works, starting with the incredible Hobi 💜💜💜💜💜

So, something my husband pointed out that I can't help but notice now... this seems almost Fight Club inspired. There is the box which introduces him to the jester alter-ego, a satirical montage of modern life, the generally grungy vibe, the explosion near the end and him calmly wrapping up that whole world in the little box again - and the jester is gone. I could be way off, but it's fun to think about. I think the x-ray scene is used to represent his inner or true self to say the lines that are what he really wants to say.

I absolutely love this!! He is showing us his different sides. This song gives me Beastie Boys/Limp Bizkit vibes. I love the rock/alternative/hip hop vibes. This video reminds me of the movie Fight Club where the narrator ends up being the two main characters. Tyler (Brad Pitt) is the rebellious side of Jack (Edward Norton). The office scene in J Hope's video represents the same scene in Fight Club where Jack is pretty much fed up and bored of the same work routine where rules have to be followed. In the end of Fight Club, Jack conquers his 'problems' (in other words 'accepts' his darker side) by shooting himself......or Tyler as we know him to also be. J Hope does the same thing (accepts his darker side) by closing the box the represents his rebellious side.

I love the artist that is J Hope, and I'm so grateful that he can finally show us all his possibilities, I think because of my age I like him much more that he explores this kind of musical variety. This song is the best, I look forward to the full album. The MV is very "analyzable" each image sequence has many conceptual topics (artistic and psychological) Finally the human being Jung Hoseok (as he has said) wants to come out a little, with his needs, ambitions, passion, doubts, struggles and weariness. Anyway, very grateful that this almost thirty-year-old man can stop calling himself solcito. Not because it's a bad thing, but because it's too stereotyped. And I think that once again, one by one of the BTS members will challenge these stereotypes. Thank you for your reaction, it was beautiful

the 'bunny ears' lol...thats a jester hat...jack in the box style. Court jesters ripped on royalty but did it in such a way that it made even the royalty laugh - so they got away with it. I think thats what he did in the office scene...tripping the boss and saving them, so to speak...but thats just my take on it. I think the xray is maybe exposing whats on the inside, below the surface. This made the rocker in me so happy!

They are all versatile and I love it, that j-hope is the pioneer in this chapter. He is indeed the Jack in the box. The surprise that jumps out at you, that was suppressed until the time has come and the usual melody runs out.

I grew with my uncle basically waking us up with screamo and heavy metal so this track was very very close to me since this is very much my cup of tea. Damn I really I want a full heavy metal versions of this. I be waking up with Disturb blasting on our stereo lmao then shuffled to Styx babe 😂😭😂😂 my childhood.

I'll be the first to admit, rock is not necessarily my cup of tea hehe. But my cousin loves rock so we've been listening to the song quite a bit since release. The first listen was shocking but I'm jamming to it more and more, but I'm not sure I love the slapback of the chorus (although I understand why it was used). I'm very intrigued to hear the rest of the album and especially seeing what the thematic throughline will be.

So proud of you Jim. Without knowing, you described Boom-Bap perfectly @10:07 & 13:55.😉 Boom-Bap (onomatopoeia for the kick and snare) is characterized by looping that "garage band sound" you referred to and putting it "in your face" in the mix.

Hobi was my original bias and even though I say I'm OT7, he's still my bias. I'd even say he just catapulted above Mithra Jin as my ultimate bias. From things he's said or hinted at, I agree with you that the album will have a variety of genres. I'm loving this heavy rock sound and I can't wait to hear more of whatever he has in store for us. Go j-hope, go j-hope!!

I believe that ARMY feel so much with BTS because we also like so many different types of music- and with BTS they perform so many different genres of music that we get our entire music spectrum filled! So very impressed with j-hope!

I think the album is going to be pretty dark/grimy throughout because in their dinner if I remember correctly rm said it was pretty consistent after saying in his the genre jumped around a lot! But either way I'm so excited to see what he came up with! I'm down for anything at this point!

I don't know about many ARMYs but I love this track. I hope there is more of this in his album. I hope he does everything he wants to do. J-Hope has so much lyrism to him in his dance, in his rap and in his music.

There are a couple of my favorites RU-vidrs who say this MV reminds them of a movie, sorry I forgot the name, I have never seen it. Maybe other ARMY will know. I am a 66 year old woman, never ever liked rock music, but love it. Out Hobi, yes, there he is!!!💜

Thanks for sharing your insight Jim, always love learning more about the music from you. So.....I fricking love MORE and the only shock I had was remembering that I have to wait until the 15th for the album! At this point I'm expecting the unexpected, I can't call it at all and honestly that in itself is such a thrill!

I think since he said the overall vibe of the album will be rather dark and it will have a storyline, there will be a common theme and mood running through it. However I don’t think that would necessarily mean all the tracks will be of the similar genre..maybe one or two more tracks like this but I think overall we will get some variety. So looking forward to the album. He is so so talented

Based off of the clips that he's posted on his IG, I think his album will be more of a 90's east coast hip-hop album. He's going in an intense route and I'm here for it and am proud that he's speaking his truth. I'll always support J-Hope no matter what.

I would agree in the sense that I think he's going to try more stuff in his album, but there would still be dark elements somewhere. I would say I knew he had it in him too~ He just has so much depth and layers in him~
