Fox Sports’ lead college football analyst Joel Klatt welcomes NFL Network Draft Analyst Daniel Jeremiah to discuss the top players in the upcoming NFL Draft. The pair discuss how Michigan’s J.J. McCarthy has risen up draft boards. They also give their evaluations of Washington’s Michael Penix Jr and discuss where he could land on Draft night. How would you rank the WR's in this year's draft class?

Harrison, Nabers, Odunze, all of whom are worthy of top 5 picks. Then there is a big drop off in my estimation to Thomas and Mitchell, somewhere from 14-24 seems fair. Franklin, McConkey, Colemann, Worthy, Wilson, Polk, Legette, and Pearsall are all Day 2 guys for me.

JJ McCarthy: Unselfishness:A , leadership, A, speed A , brains ( attended academically elite Michigan) A, Clutch in big games, A, footwork A, accuracy A- , arm strength A - ability to evade the rush/ scramble=A , toughness : A , ability to create or improvise = A , ability to process / go through reads and not lock on = A , ability to avoid interceptions and fumbles = A. He is the best and most complete QB in the draft. Harbaugh was right. The guy is so charismatic and genuine that barring injury, he's headed for a long and successful NFL career.

Penix Jr. to Miami isn’t a bad idea. Instead of paying Tua $30-50M a year (whatever his extension might look like), the Dolphins would be taking a shot on a rookie scale contract QB that projects to be just as good. Penix Jr. with a stronger arm and the ability to avoid under-throwing Hill and Waddle. Then the Dolphins can take that cap savings and continue to surround the QB with weapons. The injury risk situation isn’t too far apart when comparing Tua vs Penix Jr. …. Ultimately, I’m skeptical of the Dolphins doing this, but not a bad idea…

I'm a huge UW fan, and I love Penix. But his footwork causes him to under throw a decent amount of balls. His wr Odunze is just a jump ball stud that would react to those throws and make the catch, or get the penalty. If he fixes his Mechanics, MPJ will be an absolute killer. If not, his ceiling is Geno Smith. (Which is still decent)

@@banksta3I'm a UW fan as well, and I didn't notice many underthrows until we had that stretch of bad weather games in the middle of the season. Hard to throw accurately in torrential rain or 20 mph winds. I think of the last 6 only Stanford and USC were in good weather.

At some point, I would love to hear your response to Chris SIMM’s critique of Maye (he was adamant his exposed weakness would cause him to fall swiftly in the draft - has not happened). I assume it would fall under the same general comments? The foundational elements are there, he just needs the right team and the right instruction?

Bugler is one of the closest guys with NFL front offices. He had in ranked 19th in August based on that. JJ has skyrocketed up boards, everyone else just caught up.

He had the best regular season of all QB’s over the past 2 seasons and hasn’t had an injury since 2021. I really don’t get it either. I’d have him right behind Caleb and ahead of Maye. My top 5 qb list is Caleb, Penix, Maye, Daniels , Nix.

Injury age and recency bias of his genuinely horrible performance in the national title game however that was only one game. As a prospect it is blasphemy that the majority of analysts like JJ handoff McCarthy over penix. The difference between them is not very close imo. The arm talent of penix is far better and the only rational reason I can see for why a team would pick JJ over him is injuries.

I am a Michigan fan but that missed tackle by Mike Saintrisil for Alabama’s long TD run, still sits wrong with me. Wouldnt grab him In 3rd round if there is a WR, RB, OL that I need. And its not because i dont trust his skillset or I think he has below avg tackle skills for a nickel Its because its makes me wonder is he really a difference maker and a dawg VS Mostly Being put in the right position by a superb coordinator and propped up by a talented team/support group He will have a great career in the NFL for special teams and nickel back

I was around Mitchell’s size in college and I could do maybe 8-10 in a row? The most I did was 5 sets of 5 one time and I got hurt playing rugby and never was able to improve. So 20 reps at his size is insane

I am with Klatt 100% No offense to Tua but unless he gets better at going through his reads so you dont have to have him throw so fast, he has kinda hit his ceiling. MPJ would be a better QB and could take that team to the next level with all those recievers.

Nabors had the best #s last year (while splitting targets with another first round LSU receiver Brian Thomas Jr!)....Why wouldn't it be possible for him to go first WR? lol of course it's possible. Harrison and Odunze are great, but they were the clear by far WR1s on their squads and got a higher % of targets than Malik Nabors did at LSU, and Nabors still balled out.

I would say a creative offensive coach has better odds scoring with Nabers than Odunze. Both studs, close, but Rome is a slant/fade whereas Malik can score in a 100 ways.

I can tell u that the only reason a couple of people were high on ZW is because of Covid year, they only played mediocre teams and that's why he looked "good", but the only game they had against a competent team he was horrible. Very few people actually liked him, but everybody had him at 2 because the Jets let it be known. Almost everybody thought Fields should be the 2nd pick

I've not been high on maye at any point. Listened to this show went back looked again there are alot of wide open wrs and he under throws them. Every now and again there is a tight window he fits the ball into but I've seen more under throws than I'd like for a number 2 over all QB

JJ was benched for being turnover prone early in his career and since then has only handed the ball off and used the quick passing game. Michigan didn’t trust him to extend plays and why should an NFL team? You’ll see soon enough when he gets overdrafted.

Tiny sample size of throw stats and throwing in shorts are tough to swallow as real evidence. If you can’t get top 3 you talk yourself into JJ throwing 70% of the time in KOCs offense. JJ & Pennix are who you have to fall in love with. Note to analysts saying teams are telling them their QB plans. No they don’t! It’s silly season. JJ will go higher than he should Cuz 1-2-3 QBs are going in top 4 pks. JJ & Pennix are left to take. Scarcity makes fear. Fear makes mistakes.

Its like this CJ Stroud couldn't beat Michigan but his performance vs Georgia got him drafted top 5. JJ will get drafted top 5 because vs 3 elite defense's/3 best teams he was at his best. Total QBR vs OSU 93.1 4td (no Blake, no prob, best player on the field which included Stroud who is an incredible NFL talent already) vs OSU 94.4 1td (no mistakes vs an incredible defense 3rd only to Michigan and Alabama's) vs Ala 91.9 3td (incredible 1st half/with 441 left JJ once again came through) Thats 10 td's 0 int's All before turning 21

Enough of the love for Penix.....jees....yes he's got an arm.....i am a Raiders fan , and i will lose my stuff if they pick him because he's a waste of a pic for them.....he went against a pro style defence in Michigan with his award winning O-line and got pancaked.....all the injuries....i would just pass on him

Kind of sounds like there trying. To convince themselves JJ belongs in the top five. PENIX AND Bo Nix had some of the best passing percentages. In years. They get no respect. Maye is on top two years and now many are calling him trash. Its just crazy..Maye play reminds me of Brett Farve. He is a gamer and leader.
