What people don’t get is Michigan has always been a run first program no matter WHO is the quarterback and just because he wasn’t putting up gaudy numbers doesn’t mean he isn’t the greatest Michigan Qb ever what he did to bring Michigan back to greatness alone shows the kids a damn good leader , will he have stuff to work on ? It would also be cool to see him breaking down college tape of some quarterbacks who were more surprise successes in the NFL such as Mahomes, Brady, Purdy, etc.

He does have 3 years of rookie QBs on here. It's easy to see when an evaluation hits why they are bad. The trick is to notice when the QB evaluator says something about mechanics or vision. Kurt brought up high-volume experience and his overstride in dropping back. Does it sound like much? No. Does it offer a clue that his footwork needs to be tweaked some because it is taking longer to finish a drop? Absolutely. If he goes to a team with a bad OL that extra moment before he sets could mean pressure or a sack. Does JJ have depressed 3rd down numbers because he didn't need to throw a lot on 3rd down due to system and volume or is it an actual problem? JJ's EPA being half of Jayden Daniels is a situational difference, but someone in the draft room better have an answer before draft day.

Are you kidding? Most of the others could've won a championship with Michigan, yes. Maybe not Maye. Williams, Daniels, even Penix, for sure. Also, Michigan is not that great of a school academically I'm not sure where that's coming from. I like JJ, but come on. The reason he barely had to throw was because he had such a great O line, such a great running game, and such a great defense.

​​@@PlaySAMichigan is the best Public University in America. Maybe you can argue UC Berkeley or UCLA... that is about it. Michigan directly competes with Harvard, MIT and Stanford in academics, while competing with Alabama and OSU in Football. They have to thread a needle that no other public school can do. Michigan does not win the Rose Bowl without JJs one handed catch and throw. They don't beat OSU without his perfect over the defender's shoulder pass. No other QB in this class can make those throws.

@@farriskhan2352 People can say what they want about schools, but being a big time QB on the national stage at ANY large college is equally hard for all. Doing it at Michigan is no harder than doing it at Oregon or Washington or Clemson, etc…

Connor Stallions did more for um than Harbaugh did and even he couldn’t handle um Classes.

A lot of the stuff he needs to clean up comes down to footwork and measuring the velo on the ball. KOC is probably the best HC to help him work through those mechanics.

I agree but across nearly all of college football are passing game concepts that offer up something disappointing. It boils down to how much time they actually get to practice and develop. It; 's come up so often in the last few years on different teams, I almost see it as a wash. The QB being successful in the system, and making throws matters more to me at least for setting a baseline of what they CAN do.

Matt Stafford was criticized for not having a soft touch. He broke all kinds of records with Megatron.

He’s the least accurate QB of the top 6. He’s missing a lot more than the “soft touch”.

@@farriskhan2352 After the cheating scandal broke and they didn’t know the opposing team’s defensive calls, he only broke 150 yards ONE time in the last 6 games. And had zero tds in 4 out of those 6 games. He had less than half the TD passes Nix had this year, nearly half the yards, a lower completion %, and more INT’s. Look at JJ’s stats when he didn’t play complete cans, they aren’t good. And even a majority of throws that were caught were not good throws. WR’s and TE’s we’re have to jump and stop to catch most of them. That won’t work in the NFL.

Well sure in some situation it can do that. But you have to learn touch and anticipation to play successfully in the NFL. Not every throw can or should be a fastball. This is just common sense, on deep throws you give your guy more of a chance by letting him run under it, and there is less chance of being picked off than a fastball which is right at the defender's level as well. There are also layered throws over the middle and on corner routes and such that need to have touch. Basically, if the receiver is running into open space then you want to employ some touch and not the 100mph heater

@@PlaySA I can't disagree with your assertion that a balloon ball gives a receiver the chance to adjust his stride and get underneath the pass to complete the catch. While watching a lot of highlight reels in connection with trying to figure out the proper draft order for the top QBs this year, I was really struck with just how fast the DBs close on receivers who seem to be wide open when the pass is released. The issue is the scope of the "some situations" where you apparently agree a soft throw can be intercepted. In the situation where the defense is in man coverage and the receiver is running ten yards free to the open side of the field, or over the top, then, yes, throw a pass with some arc on it. J.J. does seem confident that he can whiz a ball past a defender's helmet and into a receiver's hands rather than tossing a balloon ball way in front of a receiver running at full speed. Maybe he finds it tough to scan the field for the position of a second defender who might be able to make a play on a balloon ball. He certainly is fond of throwing that fast ball, instead, and that makes him a bit of an outlier among QBs. Kurt mentions this several times. The point I was trying to make was a small one, which is that leading a receiver with a soft throw carries its own risks, and J.J.'s preference for tossing fireballs may not be as huge a knock on him as it might appear to be at first glance. How many times have you seen a safety run over to the sideline and pick a long pass that had looked like a TD in the making?

His coach was Jim Harbaugh...

You're not gonna get much better than Harbaugh to teach you how to be a pro QB. He only played qb in the nfl, and is currently an nfl head coach who had already brought a team to a superbowl the last time he coached an nfl team.

@@jodyfoster9278it really wasn’t. A majority of his throws were really inaccurate. He was terrible for 3 quarters. His receivers made some great catches and runs after catch late in the game. But a majority of the game he wasn’t good at all

Drake Maye is Sam Darnold to a T. Going to have the same career. McCarthy is going to be Jacoby Brissett. Better than Darnold but not a #3. Best move for the Pats is to trade down, get some extra picks and end up with a Penix later.

@Mooseman327 Drake Maye and Sam Darnold are not even the same athletically. Aside from the fact that they play the same position and will be drafted in a similar spot, they're quite different. I'd rather draft him and be wrong than not draft him and find out we missed our chance by drafting a guy with a great arm but the ugliest throwing motion in the draft that played on potentially the most stacked offense in 2023 but still choked when he got pressured in the pocket.

His accuracy is the biggest concern. He seems to make good decisions on whom to throw to. But adjusting to speed and play at the next level requires extremely good accuracy. He reminds me of Jared Allen coming out of Wyoming in that same vein. Questions on accuracy, but a cannon for a throwing arm, great mobility and throws great when on the move. With the right coaching and team perhaps he could be as good as Allen

He has more touch than alot of other QBs in this draft. I think you Need to watch more tape. You see it live all the time. And trust, he has touch on his throws. And definitely has good anticipation. I've seen it multiple times during games. And he has good zip on his throws to fit it in small windows which is a great thing of course.

He’s young. Probably gonna sit a year, Half a year atleast. I give him a good chance to succeed if he sits behind a veteran for a year.

If you don't see POTENTIAL then that's on you. You can not like limited film but not seeing potential in 20 year old national champion with a strong arm and solid mobility I don't know what to tell you

I've watched all of his games and even after the National Championship, he's not a starter. He's only had a few great games. Good player but not a starter.

@@franknorth164 Bo is still deadly accurate when throwing intermediate and deep. IDC how many air yards when you're so accurate, and get it to your playmakers perfectly almost every single time. None of these other kids can process like him. I don't think Bo is special, but, like you, I'm not super impressed with any of the top 4 guys, not enough to trade away your future. I think Bo can be every bit as good as the other guys in the right system, and Sean Payton has such a system.

Nah, Bo will not have the same understanding of deep passing as some of the other prospects who have been practicing the deep ball a lot more.

Vikings should take Penix as opposed to trading up for McCarthy

Kind of delusional to think that you have to do insane stat numbers when something else is clearly working. Michigan's offensive game plan is to win not to be flashy. Washington's defense is terrible at stopping the run, so what did they do? They ran it down their throats.
