So I felt like I really wanted to see this and finally made the effort to get spotify on my tv. Basically mirrorred the windows app with an HDMI cord from my laptop, then my phones spotify app can control all playback functions while it's playing, no different than a song. My smartwatch even let me play/pause/ffwd/rwd with the spotify app.
