I love this work. It's one of my favorites from Bach. My favorite thing is by far the registration used in the first movement. It has a sort of sparkle to it that most north German organs seem to have about them.

A delightful work, beautifully and confidently played. And wonderful technique, Mr. Marshall! Makes me wish I had started piano in grade school instead of high school.

Unbelievable authentic sound! Of course, I'm not sitting in the room where this organ is being played, but I"ve listened to many of M&O organs on here and I think the best attribute of such authentic sound is that, unlike the many [very good] electronic organs made by others, one never tires of the sound from a M&O organ.....because...one forgets he's listening to an electronic organ. That's amazing.

Yes, this organ is digital, built by Doug Marshall and David Ogletree of M&O. Cameron Carpenter designed the stop list and the layout of the console.

Brilliant, the reg in the 1st movement was wonderful, such intricate sounds were produced. The duet in the 2nd movement was sublime. 3rd movement showed Bach out-Beethovened Beethoven. Such a banal theme turned into a masterwork then done upside down, such a showoff he was! There are some fugues in the WTC with themes like this, herky jerky that he just toys with and spins into music. The sound of this organ is amazing, my orchestral ears are just buzzing with new sounds. Performance was just as Bach should be played, sometimes tenderness, sometimes with momentum. Bach doesn't need all this rubato performers are doing. I just loved this, thanks.

Have a look at their website: they not only build new organs with AGO consoles, they also do additions to exisitng pipe organs and complete rebuilds of electronic organs. However, from what I recall, not only dimensions and standards used by Royal College of Organists were only slightly different, but were pretty much abandoned in favor of AGO specs. If the stoptabs are an issue, have a look at their first instrument (Opus 1) at Trinity Wallstreet.

Very nice pedal-work in movt 1 and I love the embellishments in the 3rd...one gets so used to hearing this played 'clean' and with no improvised ornaments...nice! I still hesitate to believe that this isn't a genuine pipe organ..even listening on headphones! :-)

@BigOrganPipes Yes, it has four Trinity subs. The only organ, so far, with rotary woofers is our Opus 4 at Middle Collegiate Church. The specs are available on our web site.

Hi. Does this organ use Definitive Technology speakers like the Trinity Wall Street organ?

If one wanted to purchased one of these organs can u u just get the digital workings without the console ? I am from the UK and are organ consoles are different to the A.G..O system. The other question i would like to raise is there a manufacture guarantee of 10yrs or more ? Some firms offer u 5yrs as standard in the event that something should go wrong how easy is it to get the organ serviced i would want peace of mind.

How much does an organ like this cost? I'm guessing at least four or five hundred grand on the console alone plus the brains speakers subs and amps

Is is fine to use Romantic registration in a Baroque work these days? Sounds like a Clarinet (LH) in the second movement or is it the Krumhorn or Seskwalter?

Electronic is more accurate. 'Electric' organ could mean an organ with a motor for air prodcution for an electrostatic reed organ, or a motor for tone wheels...'electronic' is a exclusively non moving parts and operates from tubes,transistors, IC's, and of course digital. This organ sounds very good. And I'm not big on digital. Excellent playing too!

I think the idea is to sell electronic-pipe organs with the Rodgers name. Tempi are way too fast and historically uninformed, but notes are there and repertoire is vast unlike for most salespeople.

M&O electronic organs only sound good because they use recorded samples of real pipe organs. Same goes for pretty much all modern electronic organs. If forced to produce their own sounds, they would fail to sound convincing.

What a small portion of this instrument Bach needed! The rest is excess.

The first and second movements are well measured,sober and lightly registered, alas the last movement does not belong to the same performance, loud, flashy and bombastic finishes the work more like a romantic concerto. Shame.
