On Sunday the 11th of September, Ja 1271 ran the annual Daffodil Express Excursion to the Wairarapa for Carterton's daffodil festival. The train was an impressive 13 carriages with nearly 1000 passengers on board. 1271 also had assistance from Steam Inc's two Da locos 1410 & 1431, banking the train through the 8.9 kilometer long Rimutaka Tunnel between Upper Hutt and Featherston. The Da's stayed on the train behind 1271 for the remainder of the trip.
At Carterton the majority of passengers were dropped off before continuing up to Masterton where the Ja was turned and serviced for the return leg back to Wellington.
This video also marks the first on a new 4K video camera with an external microphone, so apologies for any peaking in the audio.
Enjoy!
