I remember this got a little play in 1970. I like the way the bird sounds are programmed into the synth. Misty really tears it up on that keyboard.

Very clever “novelty” tune. The duo actually pantomimed this song on American Bandstand at the time when it was a big hit. This live performance is much later on the Nashville Network.

I agree with Jerry A. I haven't heard it for over fifty years but It all came back to me when it played. Please notice it was on a TV show! In 1970 there were generally only 2 or 3 channels available, not the bazillion available now so making it onto anyone's show was a big deal. And come-on, it was a comedy song and I saw you laughing! It worked. I'll bet any eight year olds in your family love it.

I always liked this song... fun song... made my grand-kids listen to it... Frogman, Ain't Got No Home...Elmer Fudd sings 'Fi-Wah' ... Stompin' Tom Connors, 'Tilsonburg'...Jan & Dean, Little Old Lady from Pasadena...that sorta stuff... Saw them the other day... told em bout a Yard Sale down the street...said I brought them a sample... their eyes lit up, expectantly... until, I held out a handful of grass... Grampa's got a weird sense of humor ;)

I appreciate your viewpoint. I also have the same mindset. I actually owned that album as a young boy. If you want to give your heart & ears a treat, give a listen and reaction to Babe Ruth,(the group), "Tomorrow (the joining of the day)". Enjoy, and thanks for sharing.

If you want a crazy rabbit hole to go down. There is a sub genre of music called CB songs. You have "Convoy", "Hey Shirley, this is Squirrely", "East Down and Bound" and the most emotional song "Teddy Bear". Those are the ones I remember.

That's a riot! I never heard that one, probably because I spent 1969 and 1970 in Iceland with the US Navy. I guess it wasn't an international hit or played much on Armed Forces Radio :)

So, I was 8 years old when this came out. I don't remember it; I think you definitely unearthed a "rare gem" here. This song didn't surprise me at all though -- the 1970s were HUGE on novelty songs. Country artists really got into the novelty song thing back then. I even suggested a couple of more well-known ones to you in the comments to Precious Moments. There's no decade before or after that had such straight-up overtly corny novelty songs. If you're going to delve into the '70s, novelty songs are a part of the tapestry. A loose, wild, bizarre thread.

Greetings, Love your WTF moment, your expression was priceless! Had me laughing out loud, thanks, I needed that, and this song. God, totally forgot about this great song. Heard it on the radio In 1970. Might I suggest 1977 Starwars theme and Other Gallatic Funk Mecco big disco song, had the 12" vinyl and cassette, and currently the Cd. Great to dance to.

summer of 70 nostalgia-anyone remember their Humphrey The Camel-next up should be the Pipkins-Gimme Dat Ding. Tennesee Bird Walk was pretty popular charting at #23 on the Billboard Hot 100-number one on the country chart-the studio version is more palatable than this live version-I also liked the flip side Clock Of St. James.

Lol I'm shocked....SHOCKED I tell you, that "Tennessee Bird Walk" went to number one on the country charts for two weeks and spent a total of sixteen weeks on that chart. The single also crossed over to the Top 40 peaking at number twenty-three!!!

Dr. Demento had a syndicated radio show where he played nothing but novelty songs. This was one of them. HIs show, which began in 1974, was typically broadcast late at night, often very late Sunday nights which made it difficult tune in due to work/school demands the following day. A lot of silly records have come out over the decades, but I can see where you can get blindsided by them if you don't know what you're getting into. On the other hand, not a lot of reactors get into the novelty catalogue, other than Weird Al songs.

I still have this original 45 record, always liked it. Then keyboards were not like what they did there, sounded much better in the record. The other side of the 45 is The Clock of St James. You may get a better laugh from Junk Food Junkie by Larry Groce or something like Spiders and Snakes by Jim Stafford. Never thought I would see anyone come up with this for a reaction so kudos for that alone. And keep on keeping on.
