+jackandmisty: You guys hurt and helped me at the same time with this song. I was in a bar drunk the first time I heard it. I laughed so hard I wet my pants. It was then I realized I didn't have to drink to embarrass myself. All I had to do was listen to you and get a good laugh going. Not only did you save me a lot of money, You may very well have saved my life and that of others. Who knows. I could have died drunk behind the wheel and took someone with me. Then I would have gone to hell. So you even played a hand in saving my soul. Once I stopped drinking I figured I may as well join the church. All that from just one little song I can't even sing on Sunday morning because I wouldn't want all my church brothers and sisters having to leave early so they could go home and change their pants.

When this song arrived I was 7 and it fired my imagination and made me smile. I could see those dirty birds, whispering in their underwear ! It's great hook, great arrangement, I don't know if anyone would write this song today, PETA might object :) In 1970 there was a broader choice on free to air and music exposure, glad I didn't miss this one. Give thanks to U Tube & Jack & Misty.

I can't believe this song is this old, or that I'm that old, lol. I remember our family driving on vacation to visit my Grandpa in Missouri, and we stopped at some diner and my dad played this on the jukebox. I remember laughing and laughing, especially at the part of the birds being in their underwear. Oh my gosh.

Hi, I'm from N.Y. In 1968 I was 19. I did'nt care for the way "pop" was going. One day I found a station that was playing "Big Bad John". I stayed with the station, and the next song was new to me - it was a "Country + Western" song. I can't recall what it was, but it hooked me !!! So many GREAT songs !!! So many BEAUTIFUL SONGS !!! But then it all changed !!! It's terrible !!! When Your song, this song, would come on the radio, it would just bright-en up my day !!! AND EVERYBODY'S DAY !!! And so did that CAMEL !!!

I heard this song on the radio all the time back in the day but never realized there wasn't a band. Jack and Misty each playing multiple synthesizers for the rhythm and background chording. And the harmony of the vocals is quite unusual. I ran into something similar on Terry Allen's Flatland Boogie. It seems the male lead vocal is singing melody, but the female vocal rather than harmonizing a third, seems to be on the root. It's very hard to decipher it, but the sound is totally unique. I actually think this song by Jack and Misty may have inspired Carly Simon and James Taylor's version of "Mockingbird".

I lived in Nashville when this song hit the radio. I was a very young boy and my dad had just been killed in a single car car collision in Gallatin. When it came on the radio I would turn it up. If we had arrived at our destination and it was still playing, I would sit in the car until it finished playing. This song gave me a smile in an otherwise devastating time in my life. Thank You, Jack and Misty. Thank you.

On this day in 1970 {May 23rd} Jack Blanchard & Misty Morgan performed "Tennessee Bird Walk" on the ABC-TV Saturday-afternoon program, 'American Bandstand' At the time the song was at position #49 on Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart, four weeks earlier it had peaked at #23 {for 2 weeks} and it spent thirteen weeks on the Top 100... And on March 28th, 1970 it reached #1 {for 2 weeks} on Billboard's Hot Country Singles chart... On the same 'Bandstand' show the duo also performed "Humphrey the Camel", five weeks later it entered the Hot Top 100 at position #99, then five weeks later it peaked at #78, that was also it's final week on the Top 100... And on August 2nd, 1970 it peaked at #5 {for 2 weeks} on Billboard's Hot Country Singles chart... The day they appeared on the 'Bandstand' show was Ms. Morgan's 25th birthday, she was born on May 23rd, 1945 in Buffalo, NY...

@jackandmisty I do recall that Buddy Rich said that country music was "junk" or something like that. Later I read that he'd mercilessly berate even his backup musicians. There've been a few dogs on the country charts, but there is great treasure in many country records' musicianship, storytelling and tunes. Just the material written by Hank Williams Sr. is classic and stands the test of time. As for Buddy Rich, I can't name one tune he wrote. He was a lightning fast drummer, epitaph.

@jackandmisty My friend Lisa played this for me years ago! Still enjoyable. I've heard Rich blessing out his band and it could definitely peel paint, however, I read that even though he rode his band he actually didn't fire as many members as the tapes would imply. Paul Anka comes off almost as nasty, but he does say at the end that he wants his band to be as engaged and committed to the music as he is.
