My first was some “Redneck Riviera”. Some celebrity whiskey from one of the Big & Rich artists. I never actually tried old No. 7 until I toured the distillery 😂. I had JD honey and apple, but not black label until I went to the distillery.
JD no.7 was always the best friend of every rock star in the '70s. They always had the famous bottle in their hand, keeping the bad boy myth alive. Stones, Zeppelin, Van Halen, Southern rockers, you name it. It's not the greatest whisky I have tasted, but sure is the one with the most Oomph ✌️🙂 Cool vid amigo!
This scoring system strikes again. Between that and the blinds, I am LOVING this new format. This is exactly how I’ve felt about jack without being able to articulate it
Jack Daniels, the perfectly average whiskey that is good enough to drink on its own, yet cheap and available enough to use for any mixing. Always have a bottle on hand because it is so versatile.
Right. I’ve had worse whiskey that was 3x the price of jack. Not to mention how amazing the triple mash and others is with damn near the same price tag.
Charcoal filtering doesn't "add" flavor per se, it removes some of the chemicals found in young, whiskey. So technically, they are adding flavor by removing chemicals and that technically makes it a bourbon.
What's fake about this video is Jack Daniels is unique. I mean Tennessee whiskey is unique. You can't mistake it. That charcoal filtering gives it away. So to act like you don't know what it is is pure comedy.
Jack Daniels vs Evan &Williams Bottled & Bond, I'll take EWBB every day of the week & twice on Sunday. Hell, just basic Evin Williams is 10x better than JD
I’ve been eagerly waiting for this one! JD7 is my go to whiskey that is perfect for mixing with coke or occasionally sipping straight. Agree that it’s probably the quintessential “average” whiskey 🥃 but the price point is good and I don’t feel awkward in the store when looking for what to buy that I know I’ll like and not be afraid of wasting money on.
Could you share your age? I fell for the JD when i was in my early 20s. Have you tried any of the cheaper whiskeys as mixers? In my opinion, there are many man whiskeys for half the price that taste better.
Ya ,definitely Not Rot gut at any level. it is my go to also. I have had really low quality whisky, like ten-High and it gets you there, but defiantly not as enjoyable as JD. like the man said Jack Daniels is the drink of rock stars and outlaws 😀👍
Jack Daniels is technically bourbon, it is also Tennessee whiskey. It fits both criteria. Similar to how Bourbon is Whiskey but not all Whiskey is Bourbon.
This dude can’t be trusted. He never talks bad about any huge brands unless they’re competitors with his sponsors. Jack daniels tastes like rotten fruit. Rotten bananas. Bitter cheap tasting. It tastes soulless like it was made in a huge factory. No doubt they use pure gmo corn and grains to make it and the mash is too sour. Tastes like the cheapest corporate moonshine ever has been aged in artificially enhanced flavored dollar store barrels. Anyone who says otherwise is just looking to not piss off the audience. Be honest and just tell people it tastes like piss. Like you said it’s freakin everywhere. When something is that popular they ALWAYS cut corners. Especially when they don’t follow bourbon regulations. The whole thing just seems like a marketing campaign the elite came up with to poison the south. I wouldn’t be suprised if there’s a bunch of chemicals in it that cause low testosterone like all those beer brands. If you don’t trust beef at McDonald’s then you shouldn’t trust JD. Don’t fall for the movie and music industry propaganda. If they had their way everyone would drink great value everclear and expired Paul malls with no filter.
I think you hit the nail on the head with this one. I have never tried any other bourbon/whiskey that I actually enjoyed as much as I enjoy JD old no.7. I drink it neat. Don't care to mix it with anything. I do enjoy it with a good cigar like a gran habano corojo no.5. Subbed and thank you for the review.
Sometimes I am sad that I'll never get to enjoy drinking with my dad. He gave up drinking when I was about 10 because he had a real heavy drinking problem and surely would not be around today if he kept going. He is now dry for almost 9 years but I realy whish I could just have some beer or Whisky with my old man and just have some drunk conversations because I imagine it to be a really nice experiance. BTW I am from Germany thats why I can drink at this age
~53 is where I'd rank it. You can get this anywhere in the world. I think you'd be surprised how many USA whiskeys you can get all over the world, I recently got a bottle of Knob Creek 9 here in Croatia. Love your energy, subscribed.
im glad to see Brewzle is on team 'tennessee whiskey'! i hate having to argue with internet morons on how Jack does not qualify to be called a bourbon. bourbon touches virgin char oak/charcoal ONLY!
Jack, until recently, the only whiskey I like straight. I'm a novice to whiskey, so it's strong for me, but I like seeing it from the view of a whiskey aficionado. Strangely, I like jack but not bourbon, despite being made a similar way
I agree. I like 0ld #7 the best, got their bourbon just once, had one drink, and gave the rest away. to me, bourbon just doesn't do it. I love that beautiful warm bloom you get when JD hits the bottom of your gut.
I've never had a worse hangover than when I got wasted on Jack&Cokes... but in Jack's defense, I primarily drink beer and drank a 5th down to maybe 1 finger left in the bottle
Nice! I think that's the one we all started with. I don't care about the label, just the taste. Haven't had Old No.7 in a while. I've slipped into the barrel aged stout club lately, love to see you take on a few more of them. Cheers!
Jack Daniel's clearly stats on the bottle that it's whiskey not bourbon! So bourbon is a type of whiskey that’s made from at least 51% corn and aged in new charred oak barrels, while whiskey can be made from any grain and aged in any type of wood barrel.
Added note: Jack Daniels actually made their bottle that shape to make it harder for others to sell their product by slapping another name on it. Also people would add the Jack name to a random bottle and it be total hog wash, so that protects their name as well.
I had Jack Daniels years ago and hated it. But I wasn’t a regular consumer of whiskey at the time. This video convinced me to go get a bottle on my next run to the liquor store. I really like Maker’s Mark 46, but I also want a hood cheap mixer or something to knock back a couple of shots on some random Tuesday afternoon.
What made me a Jack Daniels fan was when I paired it with charcoal grilled burgers. The charcoal filtering really came our with those burgers. From that point on, every time I drink JD I get charcoal, which I love.
very disappointed with this whisky. Is there a such a thing.. "bad batch" or deliberately diluted whiskey!?? To me this whiskey is just thin and mellow (boring mellow )... smoothness??? hmm... pulling on very dryish side...or that's what JD is. Anyone share same experience!?
I would not give Jack an above average value rating, I would actually argue it’s a terrible value. For the same price you can get Evan Black, Evan BiB, Jim Beam, Jim Beam black, benchmark, old grandad etc. tons of bottles that are better than Jack for the price.
I'm no expert, but I know what I like, Old No 7 is good but I liked the Green label better. Now I cannot find it, Also find that I now prefer Gentleman Jack the best of the Jack Daniels for Me
Did the tour at JD this past weekend. Great place, great town, a lot of fun. The Triple Mash is something special to me! But nothing wrong with old no 7.
Hi i know this is an old video but i believe you should have value at a far higher %. The cost of a product plays the biggest role in a average consumers choice, especially with the price of alcohol these days. The average person isn't going to casually and consistently drop $250 on a bottle of whiskey just because its a little more fancy or complex.
I feel like you wouldn't be able to blind test Jack Daniel's. It's a pretty distinctive taste that you'll probably recognize. UPD - posted this before I got to the part of the video with a similar comment from the host.
I am a little bit different with my assessment of this whiskey I give it a 100 in all categories. Either the women I have taken home and liking my women a little on the trashy side I wouldn’t really respect my opinions if I were you but I must say it’s the best “bourbon” lol I’ve ever tasted didn’t lose my virginity to a Goddess is all I’m saying k
I’m not really a whiskey snob I just like Jack Daniels. I’ve drank it ever since I was 21 and I’m 61 now I’ve had others but I seem to always go back to JD. It’s comforting and nostalgic.
Thanks for taking one for the team! I think very fair scoring - about an average for the average sipper (as long as not with a certain cola). I like the Bonded and Barrel Proof - only one's that will cross my lips. Cheers y'all!
At 9:50 my former 8th grade mind (circa 1998) couldn't help but hear "Overall I'm just gonna stick it right in the middle". Not counting the last concluding words of the sentence, just that part.
American pricing?, down under just triple that price ,,,well triple the price on everything ,once the land of milk and honey ,,now overtaxed and no one can afford any whiskeys and nice bourbons. half the products you show us is non existence down here so i like to see what i am missing out on ,so to speak
Jack Daniels definitely has the best marketing but it's probably the worst whiskey on the shelf. Enjoyed drinking it to all the jack daniels songs when I was younger but now in my late 30s, I would rather have Makers Mark, Wild Turkey, or even Evan Williams.
It's a bourbon. Filtering it through sugar maple charcoal doesn't add flavor or smoothness. It is smooth because it is 80 proof. Jason C from Mash and Drum did a great video about it too. JD is such a bourbon....just like Angel's finished in port wine casks or Makers with the stave finishes. All, Tennessee whiskey is bourbon ;-)
Great point. This is exactly my feeling of just OK whiskey. Even for mixers I have a concern. I got bonded GD which is #1 in Whiskey Advocate, and I still don't like it at all. Just OK. I love JD single barrel bourbon and rye. I have barrel proof as well, but didn't try this yet. Hope this is a best one (per RU-vid reviews)
To be fair on the good stuff don’t forget to taste and rate the crap, 7.99 liters, 12.99liters, and how about mixability? I think so many of us live cocktails if needs to be considered. Thoughts I’ll ask you tonight again 😀
Jack Daniels was the 5th, 6th, and 7th whiskey I've tried. The first one I tried was Gentleman Jack which was very underwhelming. The 2nd was the Single Barrel Select which absolutely blasted me with a char flavor that was too distracting for me to enjoy it, even when I mixed it with coke. The 3rd was No7 which was definitely more tame than the SBS (and was delicious with coke, go figure), but the char flavor/smell was still too distracting to enjoy it neat or over ice. In case anyone is curious, my experience with whiskey up to this point has been J. Reiger Kansas City Whiskey (Kansas Native, had to be my first. I'm not including the awful sip of Orange Jameson I had), Willett Pot Still Reserve bourbon, Wild Turkey 101 bourbon, and Old Forester Statesman bourbon (Went to the store looking for Old Forester 86, but Statesman had a cooler label).
Nothing beats Jack and Coke. Nothing. I know that a lot of people hate the fact that men like me put cola or ginger ale in their Whisky. So what? The best Whisky is the Whisky that tastes good for you.
No.7 would qualify as a bourbon, but isn't because it isn't labeled as such. Evan Williams is also charcoal filtered and is able to use the 'bourbon' label.
I rather like the Bonded version since it is 100 proof. I am not sure if the filtering process removes something "important" but to me it tastes good but just does not taste much like bourbon.
I have an awful time aquiring a taste for whiskey. Even top shelve is horrid to me, it all gives me that gag shiver in my throat. Although i do like it once im little shwastey pants
Interesting hypothesis about the most recognizable bottle... JD is certainly up there. What else? Makers Mark? Blanton's? For people who drink bourbon a lot, Elijah Craig and Knob Creek are probably on the list.
I recommend doing value prior to availability. Only be shown the price at that point. That way the name can’t influence value. Then do availability last, which is when you really need to know what it is.
I don't think the association with people like Sinatra and The Rolling Stones can be overstated. Since most people drink when underage as an act of rebellion, Jack Daniels being associated with celebrities who essentially answer to no one is far more important than whatever is or isn't in the bottle.
