I had the great privilege of performing this arrangement with Jack and orchestra. Jack was the first American artist to record a complete album of Legrand compositions and arrangements with Michel and his orchestra. The whole album is a masterpiece!

Always loved this tune and the movie and as a young lad had such a crush on Fay Dunaway. Still enjoy this origional but love Stings interpretation and the chemistry of Brosnan and Russo both are fabulous but rarely i think the remake is better.
Actually, I like Sting’s version of this song much better. It has a jazz tempo sound smooth and flowing that you can listen to over and over again never getting tired of it.
I prefer this arrangement by the composer and Jack Jones interpretation which reflects the mystical nature of this song. Sting is just singing it but he is not the exponent of the song.
This version is mysterious and haunting as it was intended by its composer. Sting is not an exponent of the song he is "performing" but not feeling. And his tone is grating not close to the clarity and smoothness of Jack Jones. In addition, there are a couple moments when Sting needs pitch correction.
Not his best but he was a great singer. His best: Wives and Lovers and I think he knocked the theme to Love Boat out of the park. As for Windmills, the Sting performance is by far my favorite (as I love the Rhodes)
Those who are younger or attuned to Sting might like his version better because it's more contemporary but far removed from the song's intent and mood. His interpretation is one note and with no sense of mystery or introspection. Plenty of ego though I'll give him.that.
